Wow, this is awesome. I think there are very few bands who can write a song that sounds like it could have been written in their heyday, without it coming across as a cheap recreation. Devo have got their groove back, and and make this sound like it could have been recorded for Are We Not Men, 33 years since that album's release. Amazing.
You hit the nail square on the head. They never lost their focus and their youth, they always wanted to do this, but what with all the stupid crap that's going on right now, the time is right. For me this is the most important track/album of the year. Even though I was about 10 when they were in there heyday, this seems to compress time for me and makes me feel young again. Brilliant!!!!
Lets hope Kraftwerk can do something similar with their next album - it'l be hard though!!!
It's crawling in the high-rise tower Blasting through the sands of time It's useless to resist its power It's now or never So fresh I'll search until I find it So fresh Im closing in behind it So fresh Nothing could be better So fresh Like I died and went to heaven

This song's latched on to the inside of my head and wont let go. DEVO was my call to arms when I was a teen. When I 20 and first hit LA, Mark, Bob, and Bob at Mutato were the only professionals that encouraged my work. Through failures, successes, divorces, challenges there was a subliminal soundtrack that would fade up at the right time like a bad 80's movie. Now they are fueling my mind & spirit again that I'm pushing 40 and urging me forward in a world that is falling apart. Thanks DEVO.
Well, I get it, but I guess their female fans are not the focus here...lol. I see enough of May/December all around me, not my favorite subject!

Lyrics to DEVO's "Fresh" (next 3 posts too):
Something in the air
Is telling me to go there
So I'll follow my nose
Go wherever it goes
It's calling from around the corner
Waiting just outside of town
Trailing vapors sweet and tangy
Daring me to track it down

So fresh it almost makes me want to cry
So fresh it's givin' me a second life
There's a fork in the road
Where it goes I don't know
I won't even think twice
I really don't have a choice
It's calling from around the corner
Waiting just outside of town
Trailing vapors sweet and tangy
Daring me to track it down
