  • Dear Santa......

  • You do not own a Patek Phillipe watch, it owns you and there are few watches of distinction that are true masterpieces and guaranteed investments.

A Blancpain Grand Complication would be high on my want list but a Patek Calatrava

    Things of extreme beauty.

  • Speechless.

  • Hearing the repeater the video was taken at 10:58

  • Every Patek repeater must be personally approved by the Patek president for purity of tone. This watch costs at least $300,000 I bet.

  • What model is that? Thanks (Nice video)

  • so how do u knw what the fuck the time is?/???

  • @rey1164 turn the watch and have a look ;)

  • @Jelectrice so thats the back of the watch?

  • @rey1164 correct, sir. with that special saphir-glas back you're able to have a good look at the beautiful mechanisms.

  • @Jelectrice awesome never seen that before

  • 11:58

  • i bought one for 100 dollars - good value for money !

  • @kraskata2012 bawt what for a hunnert? A Patek? What condition is it? Was it dragged across the street by a skidding car or sumppin?

  • @Kg277 no, it was stolen, i had it checked for authenticity. They told me it's real, not a fake.

  • jesus christ people like Kg277 really grind my gears, its not about the accuracy, its about the worksmanship!

  • I bet if I farted it would clog up the mechanism! Whereas my $12.95 Casio is far more accurate.

  • @Kg277 I love when bums rationalize their poverty.

  • I've been selling GENUINE rolex watches online for a while now and I just bought out a large hoard of mens two tone(18k yellow gols and stainless steel) rolex datejusts, they have diamonds and come with an appraisal certificate. I'm selling them for 5k US dollar. I also have stainless steel mens and womens rolexes, two tone men and women rolexes, breitlings, even gshocks. I also have platinum and fully diamond covered watches. PM me if you're interested. I also have hunter and MJ gem models.

  • @watchdealer1 Nobody who sells "GENUINE rolex watches" advertises on YouTube.

  • @elgilicious Well I do, ask HipHopIsDeadMohsin I've sold over 8 watches to him, they come with a certificate and everything.

  • @watchdealer1 Right, because you can't possibly have other YouTube accounts or people who lie for you. I'm from New York, and people used to try to sell me Rolexes on the street. Trying to sell them on YouTube is even worse. I know a scam when I see one. You might as well write your pitch inside restroom stalls. Nobody trusts a jeweler who doesn't have a store.

  • @elgilicious Well, I am not a jeweler, I just bought a large amount of rolex watches from a jeweler that went bankrupt. I've already sold some on local classifieds and to other jewelers, and I decided to try my luck on youtube.

  • 10h58

  • You could buy an antique fully jeweled very high grade minute repeater pocket watch for $5K. I have overhauled several minute repeaters in my time as a watchmaker. They are pretty complicated, not so much to justify a $400K price.

  • wish i could afford a minute repeater. im stuck with a calatrava for the time being until i can afford a complicated watch :(

  • @agent008my There's nothing wrong with a calatrava. Owning anything by Patek is a pretty serious accomplishment.

  • @zetch1411 oh no i didnt say there's anything wrong. just want something more uh...complicated ;)

  • Mechanical timepieces are the ducatis of chronology.

  • It sounds like ice cream man is coming to town

  • Fantastic. a world within a world...

  • How do you guys calculate the 2nd part? I mean, the first rings are for hours, and the others? The last ones are for minutes, i dont understand the midlle part...

  • @RoDneyMull12 Quarter hours (or fifteen minutes) 10 hrs +3 quarter hours + 13 minutes = 10:58.

  • its 10:58. amazing

  • this thing is better than Ferrari

  • Comment removed

  • It's 10:58 :3

  • Wow! Amazing sound. Masterpiece.

    Bravo PP.

    Vte :)

  • ........only for the wealthy.

  • I love that you are wearing gloves. I take it this watch isn't something to wear daily? :)

  • Thanks, this is amazing. I note some people can tell it's 10:58, could you please explain how the chimes are deciphered?

  • @silexent The first low-pitched chimes are the hour (10). The chimes rung with both hammers mean a quarter hour each (3 x 15 mins each = 45 mins), then the last, high-pitched chimes are extra minutes (13). So, 45+13=58 minutes past the hour.

  • @kamokirby Ah thanks. quarter-hour explains it.

  • Awesome.

  • That is a whole grandfather clock in a case the size of a necco waffer... whoa

  • Looks like an old pocketwatch movement in a new case?

  • wonderful,i like it, where can i get one like this?

  • No, Foiut, there is nothing wrong...

  • I got 10:43. It's the first time I have ever tried to tell time with the chimes, so am I correct?

  • @mikedumais that would have been my guess too...can someone explain? Thanks.

  • amazing.

  • its not for blind people its for people who wanted to know the time at night and they cant see they're watch

  • 10:58 ?

  • nondidjou, c'est une pu.. de belle montre

  • What does the minute repeater do? Is it a timer?

  • @chand36 yes, it was ment for blind people in years before electronics. today it's only a luxury extra complication (function) on the watch. sorry about my english

  • @aleramone23

Its not for the blind, those watches are from the time before electricity.

People used to live in almost darkness (only candle light) and with those

ringing watches they could know the time more or less.

  • Imagine setting this off in class. That would be awesome!

  • This is a recased pocket watch movement....the movement is worth far more than the 18K case it is in.

  • watch for the blind or people with too much money....lol

  • Is there something wrong with me if I get physically aroused by this?

  • @foiut

I thought Im the only one...

  • @foiut

Bro, there is nothing wrong about getting physically aroused by this work of art.

  • The Maybach or Rolls Royce of watches true precision and craftsmanship along with exclusivity and yet being under the radar. This is why you owna Patek over a Johnny come lately Rolex or Breitling

  • How is this worth US$500,000?

  • @Moniker180 Because you can't make it in a sweat shop.

  • its not

  • I suppose this was invented to better tell the time in the dark, or for the blind?

  • Minute repeaters were invented so that you could tell the time in the dark. Watches this complicated would be almost impossible for blind people to afford.

  • You are making a big assumption there, that all blind people are poor.

  • Hence the word 'almost' included in my post.

  • That doesn't negate your rather bigoted assumption that being blind = being unable to afford a watch like this.

  • Do you know any blind people who would be able to? I'm visually impaired myself and I've known plenty of completely blind people in my life, none of which I know would be able to afford something like this. That said, minute-repeaters weren't specifically made for blind people, they were made to be able to tell time in the dark.

  • you can get a minute repeater for about $500 US, not exactly affordable, but it is better than thousands of dollars

  • Please let me know where you can get a minute repeater for $500 - I'm fairly sure you can't get one for this price, but if you can, I would like to know. About 10K is the least expensive I've seen.

  • HAY HEFF

ASK ME WHAT TIME IT IS

  • absalutely incredible. i wish i could compare patek to a car company, like you would say panerai is the ferrari of watches, but really patek phillipe is the most high end company in the world.

  • Not that I have anything against Panerai - I wouldn't mind owning one, but they don't deserve to lick the arm sweat off of a Patek :-)

  • 10:56

  • @ithicaplasma

    it's 10:58 not 10:56

  • What sets Patek Philippe minute repeaters apart is THE SOUND ... and that of course is what a minute repeater is all about. Many watch complications (moon phases, perpetual calendars, etc...) are usually only appreciated by true collectors. Just about anyone, however, can descern whether or not something sounds good. That "simplicity" embedded in a "complication" is what makes repeating watches so special.

  • Patek Philippe is far superior in Quality to any of the previously mentioned brands. It's not being snobby. It' just a fact. Moreover, while the basic technology of the "repeater" has been around for 300 years, it was Patek Philippe that essentially re-establishing this most difficult of compications into the modern day mechanical watch.

  • what time is it...

  • 10:58

  • It is called a Minute Repeater. It was designed before they placed luminescent markings on the watches so people could tell the time in the dark. It taps out the time so you can just count the chimes and know what time it is. This is actually more of a clock than a watch. They called the clocks you wore on your wrist 'watches' because you had to 'watch' them to know what time it was. Seriously. So this is a wristclock instead of wristwatch. There are very few of them out there that do this.

  • Ugly? UGLY? are you mad?! just look at the bridges, bevelled and polished! Geneva striping, mirror polished screws, swan neck regulator, etc etc, if you know about watches, you will know this is a beautiful watch. Pateks are some of the finest in the world.

  • just the price. i consider this an old people style watch

  • What??? As if you have ever seen one up close and personal. The watch being shown is very likely a $300K or more watch. Yes it is for old people because only old people have ever seen enough money to buy one. You'll never see your precious rap stars or movie stars with one of these because THEY CAN'T AFFORD THEM! This watch is a piece of art and art is very very expensive. This isn't some tacky piece of bling that you see out there these days.

  • @ocdetails

The movement alone is worth $150K! This is a minute repeater pocket watch movement from around 1893-1898. It took six months just to make one of these back then.

  • because you have poor taste. Enjoy your tag heur or Rolex covered in diamonds.

  • Tag Heuer can also be bought at an outlet.

It is like comparing a cheap Audi A4 to a Bentley or Ferrari.

  • dude youre like every idiot out there that only like things cause theyre very xpensive.... tag is history of watch making ... and i bet you even got a citizen calibre 9000 you asshole

  • hahaha. Citizen... why not Timex?

Price tag has nothing to do with it but you aren't going to get a Bentley interior and quality for anything less. You can buy it used though.

It's brand history and how many pieces they make and the amount of effort they put into it.

I am only 28 but I already learned that most nice things and well made things will cost a lot of money.

  • if i would like to buy a watch for my grandfather , i would buy a vacheron constantin quality is the same, price is the same and history,,,well....its MUCH better than patek

  • @Maxobillion How about a Brequet watch then? IMO the best watchmakers at the time.

  • "some" of? I disagree. Pateks are THE finest watches in the world. Nobody even comes close to their detail or craftsmanship. They are absolute works of art.

  • aaaactually, they dont rate that high in finishing. Look at Gruebel&Forsey. Thats where you see finishings. As for this one. its an antique, you can see the patina on some bridges and springs. Look at the swan neck spring, the barrel bridge. But i cant say for sure without looking at it with a loupe if its nicely finished or not.

  • spoken like someone who knows NOTHING about watches. The interior of that watch is worth more than any car you'll ever drive or probably even SEE in person.

  • the low-strike hammer has blemishes, the bridges have some patina and some rust is evident on the swan neck spring. this, with the blue hairspring and the classical design of the movement points to an antique watch.

Very beautiful, but somewhat blemished interior.

  • That's a beautiful watch.

  • do it again!

  • Wonderful piece !
