  • Ed, I have a water trap on my compressor, I see water being trapped, yet I still get it coming through. Does it matter how long the air hose is?

  • @firestud82 Do you have a cock pit drain at the bottom of the air compressor? If so drain it also.

  • @edhubbs Well, I released the water in the trap and it works temporarily. I have to keep releasing it every minute or so or I get wicked water out of the nozzle. I still get water even though I release the trap, but it's greatly reduced. Could it be the brand of compressor I have?

  • @firestud82 Some thing is wrong for sure if you are getting that much water out of it.

  • @edhubbs I'm going to take it back to where I bought it and see what the deal is. Thanks for all of your help. I'm sure I'll be talking to you soon for more advice.

  • @firestud82 Good Luck.

  • I have a problem lately with water coming through the gun. Is there any way to prevent, or at least minimize the water vapor from condensing?

  • @firestud82 coastairbrush(dot)com sells water traps for your compressor that will solve your problem.

  • Ed, I have another question for you. Can you mix Auto Air colors with the Creatix Wicked colors, or will they react to one another?

  • @firestud82 That is a question I would ask Simon Murry or Mickey Harris.

  • Your a funny bugger Ed- love the blooper's and great tips too. I have done this sort of thing for some time in Photoshop for Race Car Skins, your techniques have just confirmed that I can relatively easily move to Airbrushing Graphics as I already think negative and positively anyway.

  • @mozzmann Cool man,good Luck.

  • @edhubbs The worst part is Skull master and the like Stencils are bloody hard to get here in OZ chao

  • Thanks Ed!!

  • @firestud82 Your welcome

  • Hey ed do u kandy right over the skulls or intercoat clear then kandy

  • @mikegadry You can do it either way.But I did it over the skulls.

  • Ed - I have a question about frisket paper and cleaning after taking off. I am using wicked colors and need to know if there is anything I can clean the film off without disturbing the water based paint?

  • @firestud82 I would write Simon Murry on Face Book about that one. I haven't had a problem with it so I haven't tried to remove it.

  • @edhubbs Thanks Ed. I will try him. Love your stuff by the way! Great tricks and advise!

  • @firestud82 Even Mickey Harris could help you.

  • @edhubbs The only Simon Murry I could find on Facebook is an artist in the UK. Is that him?

  • @firestud82 That is correct.

  • SIMPLY AMAZING!!! YOU ARE THE BEST ED....YOUR VIDEOS HAVE HELPED ME A LOT, I HOPE SOMEDAY TO BE LIKE YOU....GREETINGS FROM GOMEZ PALACIO DURANGO MEXICO, THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS...

  • @MrGEORGEBRUSH Thanks for watching man and good luck.

  • Ed, I just got the artool lucky 13 skulls. Is it necessary to clean the oversprayed paint off the stencil when your done using it everytime? Or how often should I clean it? What do you clean it with when using basecoat?

  • @jayrod2 Use Lacquer thinner

  • .....for a varrrrrra verrr vvvvv......fuck it . lots of stensils.lol

  • @stevef474 LOL

  • @edhubbs Thanks so much for the videos..I have a question..Im thinking about painting my own bike this time and i was wondering..Do i 1. basecoat silver, airbrush, spray the cany orange then clear ...or 2. Basecoat silver, spray cany orange, airbrush then clear coat

  • @mikenelson95823 Either ways works,it really depends on what you want it to look like.

  • Ed why are you so good to us? ED HUBBS FOR PRESIDENT!! >:O

  • @806TO713 LOL

  • Amazing!

  • @TilleyBalls Go to my web site and purchase the 9 pack of video's they will help you a lot. fullblownkustoms(dot)com

  • Looks Great! couple of questions.... Before laying down your skulls did you put down intercoat clear? and also, Do you use Kandy Koncentrates or Katalyzed Kandys? Sorry to bug you, just want to to it right the first time!

  • @scartozzi1 Your not bugging me man. You can do it either way, with intercoat or with out. I use HOK Kandy concentrate's. I used to use Kustom Shop, but no more.

It really doesn't matter when you are just painting the skulls in black and white.

  • Hey Ed. I just started painting and I have a problem. When I get close for fine lines my paint clumps up and the air pushes it. I don't know what it is and I was wondering if you have an idea of what I could do to get it to stop or if its just me, and do you have any hits to get smooth fine lines. Thanks for the videos I've learned a lot.

  • @ACDCandGNR1 Are you using urethanes or water based paints?

  • @edhubbs I'm using water based paints at the time.

  • @ACDCandGNR1 Water based paints are definitely going to spray different than urethanes.

  • @bonnieclydehaileymac Sounds like you are off on the right start.

  • hey Ed. I am just getting started in painting and was wondering what would be a good electric compressor to do airbrushing and spraying. I wouldnt be doing any large projects but am planning on doing motorcycles. i was thinking of getting an Iwata Maxx Jet but am not sure if it will power the spray gun? Can you help out on deciding what i should go with? I would like to find something that is somewhat quite.

  • @solobabyface The Maxx Jet is a awesome compressor set I use mine all of the time, especially at car shows and inside events.

  • I've seen every single one of your videos and I must say, sir, holy s***. You're just...I don't know...great. I really have learned everything I know about airbrushing from you. I just think youre work is so smooth and do-able (with your help, of course). I'm 19 and I've been airbrushing for about a year now, I still have my beginner gun but I will upgrade soon. Thanks for all your help, your videos are great. Nice bloopers a the end :)

  • @Cgoba001 I am glad that you enjoy them. Good luck in the future of air brushing.

  • nice job man your very good at what u do

  • @oIVIILKo Thank you

  • Ed, first off I`ll say your work is in a league of its own, I watched one of your videos about a year ago and ordered myself a devilbiss dager that same week and havnt looked back since. Run into a couple problems though and was wondering if you could help. I`m having trouble getting basecoats and kandys to adhere properly. for example when I unmask artwork over basecoats it pulls the basecoat sometimes, and I`ve tried to mask base and spray HOK Kandy and the Kandy come off with the line tape

  • @RageKustomPainting Are you waiting to long before applying kandy over the base coat? Or are yo using to fast of a reducer? Are you using HOK base coats or another brand of paint and then HOK Kandy's on top?

  • great video im looking to do my bonnet with the skulls my bonnet is gloss black how can i do this i dont want it to pop out im looking for the goust effect so at a diff angle or light hits it you can see thanks

  • hey ed great video ive learned something new im looking to do them skulls on my car my bonnet is gloss black where do i need to start im looking to do a goust effect can you help me please thanks

  • Your videos are great! I was going to spend big bucks on a custom paint job on my golf cart. But I now think I will just practice a little at home till I am confident I can do a nice job, then go for it! I love doing things myself, its a pride thing..Thanx for the great tips and info!

  • hey man...you are the best ,,i´ve learned a lot of your videos...i hope some day be like you...i really like your video tutorials very helpful!!!

  • @MrGEORGEBRUSH Thank you.

  • turned out really nice Ed

  • @SNERK08 Thanks

  • As always, it's a pleasure to watch you work. After working with my cousin Chris Stemmer, and seeing how demanding custom paint work can be, I'm surprised you have the time to do these tutorials, much less keep up with these postings! Between bidding jobs, planning the layout, prep work, DOING the work, and (from what I've seen to be the hardest part) dealing with the customers lol. I just wanted to say thanks for your inspiration and sharing your gift with everyone.

  • @11harrison11 Ya man it does get over whelming at times. From e-mail,face book, myspace, twitter to youtube.LOL

Went camping for three days and came back to over 200 e-mails. Trying to answer them all right now.The reason I try to answer every one is because I know first hand how depressing it can be to write and ask questions and never get a response from any one.

So I will do my best to answer any ones question and try to help any and every one I can.

  • @edhubbs Hey Ed, so would phone call work better, lol?? I have a question about your pricing and options, etc.

  • @emj0001 1-541-434-0224

  • Wow I really enjoyed these vids... great work Ed...

  • @controlmuc Thanks

  • what amount of reducer and paint ratio would you use for the silver? And do you need to reduce the candy

  • @travzilla12 Paint is 2 to 1

And the candy is already reduced in the bottles. But if you buy in quart size it will need to be reduced.

  • Thanks for this, and every reply Ed. I feel better after getting your opinion, as it's like coming from Mt. Olympus. Would hate to see your email box every morning :O Not sure how you find the time to make videos (especially the ones with big words ;) ), answer thousands of questions, run a business, and still be creative. All I know is that the airbrush community is a far better place because of you.

  • @Thundering34

WOW Thank you very much for all of the compliments,it means a lot to me.

    Have a great day man.

  • Thank you Ed. Very nice as always. Everyone should have your problem.....you can paint better than you can talk!! ;) I was watching another vid on the subject and there were a ton of negative comments (no one would dare do that to you) about using stencils. It made me feel cheap about my work. What is your and the industries opinion on using stencils? Is it cheating, is it still 'your work'? Thanks

  • @Thundering34

Most of the videos I do on youtube are geared for the beginner and using a stencil is the first step. But once you learn how to use a stencil then learn how to make a stencil not look like a stencil.

Do I use them YES every day. Do I free hand YES every day. Do I think that using a stencil in a project is ok YES. As long as it is used as a aid and not your finished piece.

  • do you reduce the base coat half way when u do that

  • Which part are you talking about?

  • hi edd ive got a question what paintgun do you use brand and price ? and what

kind of compressor should i buy i wanna paint over my whole car and with the smaller airbrush pen do my hood keep up the MEGA WORK vince

  • the guns Ed uses are SATA 3000 HVLP for base and RP for clear they are about 600-700$

  • At least a 6 horse air compressor.

  • Comment removed

  • hi again edd, finished my first car,i did video response, thanks again for getting me started

  • hi ed,

i recently purchased 2 airbrushes and im dying to try them out.

hopefully i'll be half decent , but if not, im thinking that i may end up depending heavily on stenciling. now i dont mind using pre-cut stencils, but if i need to create my own , well, that could be a problem.

so is there any sort of machine available that i could hook up to a pc and it'd cut out vinyl for me ?

    thanks.

( by the way, u have the best vids on youtube for airbrushing . seriously, u make stuff look easy )

  • Thank you.

They have plotters for sale on coastairbrush(dot)com

  • hi ed,

    thanks for the info.

but unfortunately, my budget can only dream of buying one of those plotters.

as 1,200 dolla bills is alot to spend on a hobby.

well, at least i know what to call those machines now . so i'll keep an eye out for a reasonably priced one in the future.

    thanks ed.

  • I just finished my project on my 96 Mustang GT using your idea on the stencils and it looks sick. I have people asking me how I did that, and if I do it for a profession, lol Thanks to you I have a bad ass Mustang that looks as good as it sounds. thanks man.

  • That's awesome.

  • i watching your work and like how u explain what and how u did it, ive started air brushing and not to bad but i have a 2006 dodge cummins, i have it booked in to get the whole body bedlined red it sees alot of offroad so i dont want to scratch it so i figure its a good idea and i havnt seen one yet, but its a bright red and was woundering your thoughts on how a guy can put somesorta strips or affects in it, or even if something that can be done. thanks and once again i love your work

  • I am not really sure just how you would paint on top of bed liner and make it stick.

  • i have a siphon style air brush single action cant complain it only cost me 8 bucks but dose the trick

i used it to camo my Air rifle

however the little siphon hose split up the side can i buy that size tube by the foot and just cut to size or do i have to buy them pre-cut?

  • Different air brushes take different size fittings on the hose. what brand of air brush are you using?

  • Ed your my fav airbrush artist i have seen! keep the tutorials coming!!

  • Thanks man.

  • Awesome work...as usual.........love the outtakes...LOL

  • I seem to make a lot of them,not by choice.LOL

  • could someone answer this question. do i need to buy a special compressor or can i just use any?

  • you can use any compressor, make sure you have a pressure regulator and an oil and water separator

  • Thanks Adi

  • thanks again and greetings from Holland ,...in spite of all your lessons still fighting here with my brush but one day i will understand what im doing haha thanks for the bloopers too what an immense lot of work it takes to make a good vid...

    ;-) respect

  • Hang in there.

  • Ed... you need to put up a video of the bloopers alone, LOL!!! I'd even buy one!!

    Cheers from Brazil! :))

  • HEEEEEEEY I don't make mistakes.Ya right ! LOL

  • Hilarious ending, hah! "Can you say that word?" Thanks for the videos, really nice work you've done there!

I'm a student from Norway going on a "car damage, paint and body" school right now, going to be a car painter. But this, airbrushing/artistic painting, is something I really want to learn and be good at - that's my goal! I also really want to move to the States, and that would be a great chance for me to learn this, right? : )

  • If you do move to the states look me up.

  • One Word SICK!!!!!

    Thanks for another great video!

  • Your welcome.

  • when you talk about over reducing, what ratio are you using if it's normally 4 to 1 paint to reducer?

    great videos thanks

  • My paints are normally mixed 2 to 1 but I over reduce them 2 to 2

  • lol haahhhaahh! the last part was so funny! thanks for putting that in.i needed a good laugh.

btw,of course you know you're sick ass! outstanding!

  • What is this best airbrush (size) for this ?

  • Iwata HP-BCS

  • Your vids are super helpful, thanks again.

  • You are welcome.

  • you rock!

    that's amazing.

i just started airbrushing on paper and canvas. but the paint is too expesive.

i got some really thin black ink, which i use to fill my graffitimarkers with.

do you think I can use that untill I am good enough to use the real deal?

  • I have not used it so I really don't have a opinion about it. But if it is working for you I would say keep using it.

  • i learn everything i know from you and your videos... thx... if you ever visit croatia (Europe) send me a mail if you get thirsty :)

  • So you buyin the first drink? LOL

  • LOL

  • very cool - those stencil illustrators are no idiots either

  • LOL

  • with the clear cloats do you have to spray them indoors? with a fan or can u just spray them say outside?

  • Inside with a fan and filters to catch the toxic fumes and filter them through before they go in the air.

  • thats fucking sicho

  • totally bad ass!

  • Thanks man.

  • What would a job like that set a guy back if he wanted one done on his machine?

Killer by the way.. Ive noticed there are a lot of videos on youtube of guys that "SAY" they are artists but you really about the only one who can say that..

  • About $3,500.00

  • A true Master of the Airbrush. Got a question for you though. Have you ever done a picture of maybe a gas mask or a radioactive symbol, something like that? If so, I'd love to see it, and if you haven't, maybe you could make another video? =P

  • I have not but take a look at Mike Learns web site I am pretty sure he has done one.

    mikelearn(dot)com

  • Hi, nice job man! i'm newbie at Airbrush and wondering where i can buy some cool stencils? I've got 1 from Daveart , but is there any other good site if ur looking for stencils?

  • Click onto the Kustom Shop banner at the top of my youtube page and it will take you directly to there site.Tons of stencils to choose from.

  • lol u got a marketing deal with kustom shop? JK

  • Actually ya.LOL

I use there products and if I think that they are good I endorse them.

  • I've been checking out your vids Ed, great work! I'm getting ready to paint my nephew's goalie helmet. What psi are you working with when making fine lines? Also, what size needle do you use as well?

  • I use my mircron at 15 PSI

  • so how did u put that orange coat on without completely covering the skulls? like how did you make it so transparent?

  • the orange is a kandy dye which is transparent,it does not cover the background, just akes it darker

  • akes or makes? LOL

  • ya tryin' to say that I ake istakes? HA HA HA

  • G'day Ed, been watching your videos for the last few years down here in Australia...then find out the other day that my uncle knows you and your from my moum's home town!!!! small world! Heading to Springfield later in the year, will have to come and check the whole show out!!

BTW, Thanks for all the time, effort and patience you put into making all these videos easy to understand and so instructional. Great Job!

  • Hell ya stop by when your in town.

  • do you use a water paint base collors

  • These are urethane base coats, but I am playing around with Auto Air. Not good enough to give any one advise.......... YET.

  • Amazing work Edd, I am an artist myself but I haven't tried airbrushing, very inspiring. By the way, how much do you think you could have got for a paintjob like that?

  • $3,000.00

  • what does mean to reduce colour?are airbrush paints more expensive than these for normal big gun?

  • You have to reduce the paint in order to get it to flow through a air brush or even a paint gun. They are the same.

  • ed these are the best and informative videos iv ever seen i am starting out and have been checking your videos out for most of the things im doing like i said the best there is please do more

  • Workin on one now.

  • very inspiring , great work!;) thanks for the vid

  • You are welcome.
