  • I was just wondering why your pig pen is so small? Them are some big piggies :) Bet they were good eating too. I just found your channel and just love what I am seeing. Its sad that more people don't live this way. Anyway Keep sharing your great videos! God Bless. :)

  • @HippieChild05 All they need room to do is eat, drink, sleep, and get fat.....You would be amazed at how much better they are than store bought...Thank you!!! God Bless!!!

  • i love the videos! I just tried the salad dressing on my turkey and its delicious!!! Thanks for all the tips!

  • @freestylze Thank you...It is delicious!!!

  • The wood you got looked like the trimmings off the edges of logs from when they prepare them for lumber, right? I've never seen anyone using that before. It's a great idea! Probably very economical.

  • @Crunchy68 They are slabs....they have alot of wood on them.....

  • Are those your meat rabbits

  • @Theclaidheamhmor Yes they are.....

  • @mmlrc6atgmailcom I love the bunnies' tiny ears! Never seen that type before. Does it have something to do with their tolerance of heat or cold? (ears=radiators, maybe?)

  • You mentioned in another post that there are a few people leaving your community. Have they sold their homesteads? Me and Husbandman are looking for property. If you hear of any good deals, please let me know. Thanks! :) Blessings.

  • @FloridaCityFarm Ok I will thank you.....

  • Hi Misty, I just had a friend that sold all of their rabbits and equipment. She said it cost them more to have them than the meat was worth. Do you find that to be the case also or what do you do to economize? I would love to see a video from you on how and what you all do around your homestead to be frugal, cost effectively manage your expense on your animals, fuel, electric, start up on your garden, etc. God Bless!

  • @FloridaCityFarm Too many rabbits, will break you, I find if I only keep 2 does, and a buck, then if you gather the manure, and they are good does, but if you do not have a outlet to sell them them you do not want to many, the manure is almost worth the same as the meat is, because you get alot of it, when you have 2 sets of babies. they make alot of manure. But you spend a bit on them, you just have to weigh out what you are looking for. God Bless

  • hahaha your pigs got soooo big. its great

  • @fisherdigital They sure did....Thanks!

  • wow nice farm. when things go bad here in vegas I am headed to your place. Happy Holidays

  • @SteveHarpster Thank you....lol..I would not want to be in Vegas when it dose hit the fan.....Merry Christmas!

  • those hogs are getting huge. Looks like one of em is goin to be Christmas dinner?! My gosh, ya'll are set on for winter with the wood, the pigs, chickens, eggs and rabbits! You are very Blessed! Have a Merry Christmas! Do You guys put up a tree for the season, if so, can you do a video on it? Would love to see it, am out on the road, and seeing Christmas trees puts me in the Christmas mode. Thanks again.

  • @danzak44 Yes they are....It is a possablity that we will butcher them the day after Christmas....Yes we are truely Blessed! Thank you...No we do not do a Christmas tree, we do cook a Christmas meal and if money provides we try to get the childern a gift a piece....Thank you, and May God Keep you safe on the roads...Marry Christmas.....Thank you!

  • misty how do you know which eggs to eat? all those eggs can go straight in the fridge for eating ? or do you have to sort out the ones with baby chicks inside? i really don't know how that works please educate me! lol

  • @shinnecockwarrior I harvest eggs every day, they are fresh I sell what I do not eat. Yes they all can go sraigh to the frideg to eat, and in cook weather they can sit out in a egg crate for up to 2 weeks. They do not have no baby chickes inside. The only way that would work is if a hen went broody and had been sitting on the egg for up to 2 weeks. So I do not have that prob, if they were free all the time and I did not know where they were laying then I would have to watch4that

  • Hey I really like your grounds there! Nice lookin farm! God bless!

  • @godschildyes Thank you!!!

  • @MrBfd0412 Thank you!!! I have 28 hens....and we got 26 eggs today, when they are sll laying right we will get a egg per hen....

  • Nice to see the animals :) Sorry to hear about the rabbits, maybe they have bad genes? Try some new rabbits from someone who has had rabbits for a long time and is confident in the genetics

  • @neuroleptika Thank you!!! I willl keep this in mind...

  • Nice homefront. What we all should do. Nice to hear from your hubby in the video. He does a nice job. Congratulations on living the way we all should live.

  • @TheCapstone100 Thank you....

  • God bless you.

  • @mds19238 Thank you!!!

  • You are such an inspiration. God bless and keep up the great videos!

  • @FloridaCityFarm Thank you!!!

  • I like your home made chicken feeder. Do you ever have problems with chicken snakes?

  • @ShushLorraine Thank you I got it from Grayv111, no, not in the chicken house...

  • Man I love your setup. I just got a local driving job. I was a longhaul trucker. Now I can finally have chickens.

  • @bctruck Thank you!!!

    That is great....

  • bantams lay better....... egg every day

    are you a nun

    merry christmas

  • @000whiterabbit Yes they do lay good, no I am not a nun...I am a plain clothed christian.....

    Merry Christmas

  • Can't believe how fast those pigs turned into fat huge hogs! Wow, you gonna be able to store all that meat since your last slaughtering? Where ya gonna put it all? LOL..maybe you should sell me some hickory smoked bacon?? LOL

  • @kokonutbaby1 I know they are fat critters...All the meat from my last butchering is long gone.....I will be canning most of it....

  • Everything looks great... The hogs look awesome. I know a lot of work went into them.

God Bless, Misty, Mountain Man and Family...

  • @mainbearing68 Thank you!!!

  • Thanks for sharing

  • @aaadream Thank you!!!

  • misty have a question is it really cheaper to raise hogs than to buy? we have been considering getting a couple 3 but just not sure if it will save any $

  • @newbeprepper No it is not, but it is not too much more now-a-days....But it is worth it to us, we get so much meat at a time.....

  • Miss when I was younger and we butchered hogs b4 thanksgiving. Now its isnt cold enough to salt cure the meat.Just to warm. But hey what better Hogs, chickens, firewood and being self sufficient the way it was intended us to be.God Bless u all

  • @marshwillow Thank you....

  • Neat video. Impressive pigs! Yall need some Dexter cows up there though :)

  • @03DexterHauler Thank you so much...

  • Misty sorry i was replying to a comment another person had posted about how many eggs a chicken would lay. I have 24 chickens and only 8 boxes but they all use only 2 of the boxes to lay in, by the way my rabbits had a hard time this summer also. KS with record days in the 100s. I have moved 3 of my good mommas inside the barn and started breeding again hopefully late winter and early spring fresh fryers

  • @jethrob34 No prob, thank you

  • Misty, what's your all's cost on the pigs. We raised 2 this year, bartered one for butchering expenses but our final cost (because we don't produce many scraps... just 2 of us in the house) were crazy high honestly. The meat does taste better, and it was a good experience, we know we can do it now, but just curious on your costs figures. Thanks! Lynette

  • @PreppingOnABudget It does cost a little more, but it is so worth it in the long run.....

  • Hogs are looking very nice! I'd like to see the bacon, and also get a run down of what exactly ya'll are feeding. Thinking of raising a hog or two out back. Price of food is starting to take a serious toll.

  • @SouthWestIron Thank you!!! The preacher in the community grinds hog feed, I do not know what mixture he is useing but it works, I know it has soy bean meal and corn, and several other things, you can buy a complete feed at the feed store...

  • Your pigs need more room.

  • @Vaultcracker2 Not id they are going to be butchered in about 3 weeks.....This way all they have room to do its eat and sleep and get fatter.......

  • For a second it looked like you pulled that carton of eggs out of the rabbit hutch! LOL

  • @MrBillTroop73 LOL....Thanks!

  • Wow That Hog is HUGE!!

  • @mojopin12 Thank you we have been trying to fatten him up well....

  • You have so much going on and you manage it so well.

  • @boat6868 Thank you!!!

  • When I get my land I gotta have pigs and chickens like you folks. Keep up the good living Misty and Mountainman!

  • @AmericanMade72 Thank you!!!

  • I see lots a LOTS of fresh meat in ya'lls future ! Wow...so many animals. I'd have my hands full with just a few hens. ;-)

  • @mhpgardener SO do I........Yes that is what i have children for...lol....Thanks Bobby!!!!

    /;-)

  • Oh, I love how you did your wood! It looks so cozy under that tarp!

  • @TheEndeavoringFamily Thank you!!!

  • looks like everthing is comin along good i kinda feel sorry fer that poor rooster trapped in there with all them hens by himself lol boy that trailer sure looks like lotsa work me n mountain better go set on the porch n get a cup of coffee n see how that works out lol

  • @rdnkrfnk Yes sir it sure is.....LOL....He wakes us up every morning before saylight, so I guess heis getting what he deserives...lol....Yes MM would like to be able to sit on the porch and have a cup of coffee with you, even though he does not drink it...lol...Thanks!

  • thanks for showing me around the farm, felt like I was just goin right along with you from spot to spot. A lot of work there cuttin wood, feedin animals and gatherin in the eggs. I'm a townie now(hate it) but hope again some day to have a few acres. Are you stinking of getting a calf to raise up for meat? Just wondered. Lookin good! God bless you and yours this Christmas and always.

  • @Woodsygirl62 Thank you. Yes we are thinking about getting a calf....Bad....Thank you and God Bless You and Yours and Merry Christmas!

  • WOW! Your hogs have really grown a lot. We are going to try raising 2 this spring any tips you would like to share that would be helpful. You all are doing a great job thanks for posting.

  • @KSPrepper1 Thank you, yes they have....Put them on a floor, and keep them fed, some ppl just matain feed till about 3-4 weeks befors butchering, and then pour it to them, but if you keep feed to them the whole time you will end up with much moore meat and lard.....They do not need to be able to have a lg. spot to burn up energy in rooting......

  • You guys are awesome, I loved the update, thanks. Take care and God Bless!

  • @PopPrepper Thank you Pop....Take care and God Bless!!!

  • Great video.

  • @Brandon401401 Thank you, and thanks for watching.....

  • looks good. How long can you heat the house with a trailer load of wood? Thanks

  • @frankie2234 Thank you...I do not know most of the winter if it does not turn out too bad....

  • That hog is going to make a lot of pork chops. Do you use all of the eggs your chicken lay or do you sell some?

    God Bless,

    Elba

  • @elbacooks4u Yes it is, but I usually just make sausage, bacon, and cut the rest of the meat off the bone and can it, and cut the ribs in small enough pieces to put in a jar too...We sell the extra eggs.....

  • thanks for sharing. farm living is probably hard but it looks inviting. yall take care.

  • @megajeeplover Thank you!!!

  • mountain man ask misty she will tell you that its the little things that count. i would love to see a video on how you make those v-bottom troughs for the hogs. and what ya'll do with the hog manure that is wash out of the pig pens. thanks GOD BLESS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS,

  • can you make a video when it comes time to move those hogs out of that small pen.

  • @xle5363 I will try to, but i do not know if I will be here or not, we will shoot them with the .22 before we attempt to move them....

  • that is so cool thank you

  • @stonybrokebushcraf Thank you....

  • Thanks for sharing! - looks like some healthy, happy critters.... well done!

    Merry Christmas....

  • Sure would love to have a trailer like you MM....... The truck don't hurt either.... I'd like to have one to be a snowplow contractor...... Gotta hope and pray a little harder I guess

  • @Sasquatch7foot Thank you....

  • Nice...........

  • @Sasquatch7foot Thank you....

  • My those pigs have grown! When will you butcher one (or more)? Our chickens have gone into molt right now, so we aren't getting hardly any.

  • @Herbalpagan Thank you....

We plan on butchering them all 3 in Janurary when the community does there Hog Butchering Bee.......

  • What! I thought that was a mountain man production. Did I read that wrong? When are the pigs going to be the star of breakfast instead of the eggs?

  • @res401 lol....Soon I hope....But the eggs will still be there....

  • Wow. I think it's wonderful that you are so self-sufficient. I live in an urban area so I tend to purchase my preps but you have a continuously renewing supply of food!! I am happy for you and grateful to you for sharing.

  • @johncap9 Thank you....

  • Oh my wow! I love it. I wish I could live in a community like you do. Would you consider telling everyone how you made the choice to live like you do and how you did it. I find your life absolutely facinating!

  • @nagaempress Thank you....

  • Wherw does the wood come from that its cut that way...what do you do with that many eggs a day......those hogs are huge...lol

  • @Carballoca We get it from a young man in the community that has a saw mill, and I sell the extra eggs, and thank you....

  • ★★★★★ and a gold star to you and yours there. :)

  • @liabatud67 Thank you....

  • I wish I lived nearby so I could come and learn from you Misty! You know so much and thank you for sharing what you know with us. I always learn so much. Right now we live in the city, but I pray to the Lord that one day we'll be living on a couple of acres in southern Montana. Have a wonderful Christmas and may God continue to bless you and your family!

  • @GrammyTammi ...me too!

  • @ElleEmBee67 Thank you....

  • @GrammyTammi Thank you....

I hope you Have A Wonderful Christmas too.....God Bless you and yours too....

  • Neat!!! Wow those pigs got big fast. :)

  • @oaktreega Thank you....

  • Now your feeder looks just like mine :) Glad to see it is working for you!

Phoenix City Code says that we are only allowed 20 birds per 1/2 acre, so I have those 20 and get a dozen eggs a day, give or take a few, as some of the girls like to take days off. Now, if I had 2 acres, the city code would not restrict me at all as to the number of birds... weird, huh?

  • @grayv111 That is a good thing.....Wow what restrictions you have.....Bizzare.....

    Thank you....

  • Love that Cull Wood! That's what they call it here (SE Ky). I can only get it a couple times a year when the mill runs.

Burns Hot and Long plus it's easy to handle. You guys are going into winter looking REAL GOOD! Thanks for sharing.

  • @Ladyshystar Thank you....

  • Will you be harvesting the pigs soon?...are you going to make a lard vid this year?*crossing fingers*making bacon/ham etc :)

  • @scodurh Yes in Janurary, I am going to try and make a lard video, we will be doing it with the community, so I do not know how much video of it I will be able to get....

  • You go, girl!

  • @20351MA Thank you....

  • You people make real good videos + the comments are just as interesting. Thank you.

  • @1023471965 Thank you....

  • ★★★★★

  • @MadBadVoodo Thank you....

    And Thanks for watching....

  • Let's see, 28 eggs a day, added to all that great deer meat pepperoni, plus that wonderful oven of yours...I'd be LIVING on delicious pepperoni Fritatas, daily! Everything looks great, Misty. You guys are doing a fine job.

  • @tjbollman1 Thank you....

  • Chickens lay 1 egg a day but they will share a box so several will lay in the same place

  • @jethrob34 Yes they will share a box, when you only have 8 boxes for 27 hens....It is natural for them to do that....

  • How WOnderful! Those Pigs look HUGE! Where does their poop go? Were they raised up in that crate? IF I could raise them that way I would!

  • @TheMrsVolfie Thank you....in the ditch....Yes they were, it is the only way to raise them nice and neat....

  • I just love seeing your farm there. Do you have a way of preserving all those eggs? I'm only getting two a day from my little flock, but that's more than I can use, but not enough to accumulate enough quantity to sell. I've been experimenting with dehydrating them. So far, that is working very nicely, but I don't know how long the powder will keep. Time will tell. God bless!

  • @modoc42 Thank you....I sell them to a man in town, and still have plenty for us to eat....Neat dehydrating them I am glad that is working for you....The powder should keep indefantly I would think....Thanks and God Bless!!!

  • Nice video as always. What I see is ham and eggs and the fuel to cook 'em! :-)

  • @MrWebfarmer Thank you....

  • just wondering, I know you all make alot of things on your own. But the things you do have to buy, how do you get that income?

  • @metallicafan53 Well that is a personal question if you ask me, but my husband is disabled, and we sell eggs for a living, and now we have the Greenhouse up we plan on selling plants....

  • Love the way you live.. Have a blessed day!

  • @snaps81625 Thank you....

  • Wonderul

  • @RRobi31729 Thank you....

  • 1:50 I noticed that you've got about 4 eggs in each chicken box. I thought that chickens generally laid 1 egg per day. Are you getting about 4 eggs per chicken, per day?

  • @penguinistas Yes they do lay one egg a day, but I have 27 hens in there and they do lay in the same boxes.....

  • Wow misty and MM.I know my son and friend went to a lumber cutter last year and got some of his slabs. I will have to look into seeing if we can get more.If i remember right, it was free?? Those hogs are getting huge. And how old are they when u butcher? We bought one off a friend last year, and butchered it--just love the meat.I am looking into getting my chicken coop ready for chickens too--have a source to get some brown laying hens now.We live in N. Mo--how would i keep them laying in winter?

  • @quilterinthewoods62 Thank you....

Yes they are free....We got them in March or April I think...I would have to go back into my earlier videos and see when we got them.....The best way to keep them laying in the winter is to provide them with artificial light and warm water.......

  • I love your guy's setup, it is absolutly wonderful. looks to me like the Ham on the hoof is about to come off the hoof, and those slabs make some good cooking material.

  • @TheSonofthunder7 Thank you....

  • Nice!!!

  • @Iam1uglyguy Thank you....

  • Do you raise those pigs in that little pen from start to finish?

  • I am just now working on getting my chicken and rabbit cages all worked out. I already have a good spot for them built, just need the cages and nesting boxes built.

  • @TheHossUSMC Hey Hoss.. if you want to come to northern Calif, I have a 6-plex condo you can have.

  • @modoc42 HAHA thanks, but thats a little far for me to travel.

  • @TheHossUSMC Good luck, you will enjoy them when you get it all fixed up.....Thanks for watching.../;-)

  • Thanks for sharing! Always a pleasure.

  • @wyattoneable Thank you....

  • What kind of chicken feed do you feed your chicken?

  • @RedneckAngel98 They grind it here in the community, it is basically a layer feed.....

  • What do you do with the rabbits? Pets?

  • @dirtysteve40 they eat them
