  • I generally don't care much for Mr. Clapton, but this is one of the best renditions of 'Irene' ever. I especially love the audience. I wish I had been there.

  • the whole atmosphere of this video is incredibly awesome

  • saw them do this at the end of a fundraiser in Cranleigh village hall around the same time...the whole place was singing there heads off !

  • is that a young albert lee to the right of eric. if not it looks very very like him.

  • @atourdeforce ~ yes it is ~ it's also his birthday today Dec 21st 1943

  • Beautiful.

  • 初めて見た映像です。

    ファズもディストーションも何も効かせず

    生音に近いクラプトンの演奏は珍しいです。

    木こりの兄弟みたいにも見えました(笑)

  • I like, when i was very young i loved this song. Still Do.

  • This was a turning point for Eric because this was the year he was in Rehab at Hazelton, as described in his book...which I am reading at this time...I find it very sad to read about his relapse

wishing the pain would just go away...I hate to see folks suffer like this.

  • First heard this in 1999 at Bristol rovers away quality song mcfc

  • I want to go a Christmas party where Eric Clapton plays old Huddie Ledbetter songs!

  • Nice rendition of a classic..chill. I love how everyone is smiling and dancing to this song because the actual song itself is about suicidal fantasies and destructive relationships...the fact that this is being sung at a Christmas party bringing the whole family together is insane LOL!

  • @musicalpro1000 Look at the kid at 1.05, only about 16 he knows the words and wasn't even an apple in his mother's eyes when this song came out. Says a lot for "OUR" music doesn't it? Gary

  • Yes , that's right - Albert Lee on Tele stratt . Thanks for posting , nice one !

  • rare video. Thank you ;)

  • very nice video thanks

  • dear its dave peacock!

  • I love the way guitarists stand. Very macho.

  • @jezebel892 It's to compensate for playing a girly purple guitar. j/k

  • Love the added 6 chord.

  • Why do they put so many nice things on TV during Chistmas Time when so few watch!!!!!!

  • OMG is there Alan Price on the piano????

  • @jaybirdshelbynyc - This is from a UK TV Christmas special, back in the eighties. Chas and Dave are the main guys (bass and piano). I am sure they are unknown in the US, mostly because they had a series of hits which were of a cockney nature. And, yes, that's deffo Albert Lee

  • Albert Lee on the Telecaster I believe- consensus please? Wait, just had a close up- pretty sure it's him.

  • Does anyone know if this was Clapton's band at that time?

  • @DasGoldenBoy - looks like Albert Lee on the Telecaster beside him, perhaps Beckett, Hawkins & Hood from the Muscle Shoals 'Swampers' Rhythm Section... except for Albert Lee, this ensemble backed Clapton pretty regularly, if that's who they are

  • the 3 people ho have dislike this DO NOT DISERVE EARS !!!!!!!!!

......THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE GUITAR §!§§§!

  • I posted the chorus to my facebook two nights ago for hurricane irene; she still came my way....oh well, thanks for the memories anyway!

  • where the hell did you find this? bajezus

  • MY DAD PLAYED GUITAR AND SANG THIS SONG TO MY MOM IRENE ALL THE TIME

  • I work in a nursing home and we sang it to a lady the other day ...Hurricane Irene...Hurricane Irene ...good bye Irene goodbye Irene Go back out to sea...they laughed...

  • What a sweet voice. Going to the River breaks my heart. Bless all on the east coast and wherever. And Kiss Off Irene

  • Yes and Oh yeah

  • Yes, Hurricane Irene brought me here as well. THis Clapton is not the one I've admired of late.

  • LOL Yup Hurricane Irene is what brought me here!!!

  • Lovely rendition. Thank you.

  • Far out. Sounds like something my great grandpa would have played on his fiddle back in the 1930's.....

  • @trailboyus66 Pretty close, it was first recorded by Leadbelly back in 1932.

  • @denizen224 Wow!

  • Was it that obvious? I'm actually the biggest Pete Seeger fan on Earth: Weavers, Ramblers; can't get enough....

  • thumbs up if you came here because hurricane irene

  • @yankeedvl1 muss zugeben dass ich seit den Meldungen Good night Irene als Ohrwurm habe ... offenbar bin ich nicht der einzige :)

  • @yankeedvl1

    yes just that

    also i knew that song

also an old friend name irene

    good time to remember

  • @yankeedvl1 ....retard

  • Can we change the title to good bye Irene ?

  • @Raquelitaleyva

    better yet..Go away Irene

  • @Raquelitaleyva if you don't like it, it's simple really, go watch justin blubber, sorry beiber

  • @Raquelitaleyva if you don't like it, you canalways say it to yourself and watch blubber. No one forces you to watch Classi music

  • Great tune. Heard it by the Weavers when I was a kid maybe 60 years ago.

The folks on the dancefloor in this video are really grinding it out. Must be about closing time when "the girls all get prettier".

  • @KYIRISH1 heard this (Weavers Version) as a child 30 years ago, i grew up on the Weavers, Pete Seeger , Arlo and Woody Guthrie and Dylan (sort of skipped 80's pop as a kid) although I was into REM as a Teenager but still LOVE all this music

  • Back in the U.S.S.R?

  • Second singer is Dave Peacock, of Chas and Dave. Chas is the keyboard player.

  • Only really good bands can play really slow. ...and more bands should do it. 32nd and 64th notes become available at slow tempos.

  • Most of the audience weren't even born when this song came out. It says a lot for music from "The Good OL' Days" AH Those Were The Days.

  • Gosh, could the drummer possibly play any slower? There's laidback and then there's L-A-I-D-B-A-C-K and this to me is LL-AA-II-DD-BB-AA-CC-KK!! lol

Fair play to Eric for showing up and doing his thing.

  • Is that Chas and Dave?

  • @mdcrighton yesss!

  • @mdcrighton the second guitarist is Albert Lee ~ a totally awesome and underrated guitarist that can hold his own with Eric Clapton any day. Not sure who the singer is with Clapton though.

  • @javaman64 at least I believe it's Albert Lee ~ I could be wrong though, looks like him though

  • @javaman64

    I'm quite sure it is

  • @javaman64 The Singer is David Victor Peacock (Dave)...the dude on the piano is Charles (Chas) Hodges...together they are Chas and Dave, a dodgy folk/rock duo from the East end of London....

  • Old slo~hand doing what he does best.. play lovely leads to lovely songs.. ther is nothing new under the sun.. nice post Mr. Jan !!!
