  • u need mor time when u show these videos but it was ok try not to drag on with talking it gets boring.

  • @batmanisrandy Got it. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the informative video. I was wondering how the heck I'd get the fan off. Having the shop manual is nice, and even better when you can see someone walk you through it. I just replaced a freeze plug. Thought I was good to go, then the water pump starts leaking. It's awesome that you made this on the 318 engine. Many thanks again.

  • @mikemanuel57 You're welcome!

  • It's nice to see that there are still good people in the world. Thank you for the help, much appreciated!!

  • @RONEAWAYSTUDIOS There are TONS of great people all over- there's just a bunch of idiots that make the news. You're welcome = )

  • I took off the radiator b/c the gasket is the one that failed. and i wanted to see how to take the fan off and i don't wanna damage it.. So taking off the radiator is what i had to do.. But that hose need's to come off to... dam i got more work... thanks for the video and for it to being informative... 5 stars from me :)

  • @curemymind You're welcome.

  • you are a good guy! Thanks for putting this and the previous video together for us.

  • @petroglyphman2 You're welcome. Thanks for the friendly feedback. I was just told I was a whiner and made a horrible video by another guy. You can't please everyone, but I do appreciate your expression of gratitude.

  • man just the vid i need but i dont have to much experience changing water pumps i have a 02 durango with a 4.7 did the rad, thermo, and hoses, but i think the weephole is leaking the back of that pulley has a lot of thick antifreeze residue.i dont have the courage to tackle the water pump

  • I have been out off the game for 10 years, but watching your video's makes me want to pick up the spanners again. keep up the good work.

  • @MrKevg59 Will do.

  • major help thank you

  • @kuegfag You're welcome my friend!

  • Thanks for the video. I'm about to pull the water pump off my Dakota. I'd like to punch the engineer that put that one bolt behind the pulley. And it looks like I'm going to have to move the AC compressor and alternator. :(

  • @a7i20ci7y lol..... seriously.

  • Used this vid to do my pump 2001 Ram 1500 4x4 5.9L! Worked great! The tool i rented from the parts store didnt work on these types of pumps but your pry bar trick did. Thanks a million

  • @TheJeffcoats You're welcome- glad I could be of service- it's good karma!

  • What a great video! Thanks

  • @teachmeautodotcom You're welcome. Glad I could help.

  • On the factory water pump there were four bolts holding on the pulley. I had to rent a special tool to hold the bolts still and wrench the fly wheel. Replacement water pump has the pulley welded on and no way to hold pulley still (with wrench) to reinstall fan? What to do with the original four bolts? How is the next person supposed to remove the fan?

  • @KinaeAsinfa I just do the chissel trick with the serpentine belt on. Works awesome! Don't throw away the bolts- start a nut and bolt can/collection.

  • @KinaeAsinfa air chisle on the bolt

  • i have a 1994 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2 on the top bolt where u said u needed a t bit to remove the bolt i used a 9/16 box end wrench. it works an doesnt strip it

  • @counrtyCATemployefar Awesome- way to go!

  • @nativesins Sorry but also does the timing cover gasket have to be replaced here aswell?

  • @nativesins Nope. Nor doth ye olde harmonic balancer.

  • @briansmobile1 Well thanks for the informative vids turns out when I got the compressor off I discovered there was a hole in the bypass hose replaced said hose and now I am back in business Thanks a million !!!!

  • @nativesins That's great! You're the man. You're welcome.

  • thanks your information was very helpful

  • @jahruff You're welcome

  • Brian,

Thank you! Thank you! Thank You! You saved me from burning my Ram 1500 to the ground out of frustration. Your video was more informative than anything I had read about changing a water pump. I still made some mistakes but you literally saved me about $500.

You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

  • @sebrodie1 I'm so HAPPY I could help = )

  • thank you! this helped me a lot when replacing the water pump on my dakota. i only can wish mine was as easy as this one was. mine was leaking from the same two places but the pipe was stuck in there so tight i had to spray pb blaster on it and beat the old pump with a sledge just to get it out.

  • @assark0182 Man, what a pain. I've been there before.

  • Someone might have suggested this already, but I use a grease pen. I make the bolt heads and make on the new part where they go. Just incase they get knocked over or fall out.

  • You forgot to mention that the water pump bolts were suppose to be torqued to 30 ft/lb.

  • @NerdForMIT Thanks for posting

  • @briansmobile1 Not a problem.

  • Shoot my top bolt is not a t50 bolt. Thanks!

  • 5 star!!! Where did you get the t50 bolt?

  • @omanalansan It comes with the truck- stock. The socket for the bold was bought from Autozone.

  • Man what a great clip. Doing this right now. Have one question where did you get the t50 bolt? For the top bolt

  • I have the same truck but with the 5.9, I have a front crankshaft seal leak, my truck has 191,000 miles on it so would you recommend that I replace the timing gears and chain while I replace the water pump? Great videos like always, do more repairs on dodge rams haha so I have a better idea of what I'm doing

  • @anonuhmys I would check for wear and tensioner slide condition, but only replace them if they need it. That's a pile of components that usually lasts as long as the rings and pistons etc. I wouldn't worry about it till it's time for a rebuild.

  • great video dude! very informative.

  • @reggie9675 Thanks

  • I've been kicking around the web on how to do this for a '99 Durango, and your video has been the best resource yet. Thanks a lot!

  • @Si1verwolfe You're welcome- they should be the same. I started making a Durango vid and had severe dejaveux so I hunkered down and whipped it out without filming.

  • Good video but I do wish that you shown how to remove the shroud

  • @jahruff It's just four small bolts two on each side.

  • How hard was it to get that hose on without removing the altenator and ac compressor? did u spray something inside the hose so it slipped in easier?

  • @banuelos46 I held the clamp open with vise grips and I generously sprayed the inside of the hose and the water pump outlet with spray silicone lubricant.

  • Plain and simple just the way i like info , this will work out well for me i need to change out tmeing gaskit so its a start . thanks

  • @blackwhip2 You're welcome- good luck!

  • nice vid ,also nice heated shop:)

  • the best video i have seen for a dodge dakota water pump helped out bunch

  • @dirtdogg13 Glad I could help you out.

  • Good video, thanks for the helpful hints on the bolts.

  • Also, I just used a 16" Cresent wrench to get the fan loose. Left the belt on and gave the wrench several good whacks with a 3 pound hammer and it spun it right off..

  • Excellent video Brian! Just completed the job on my 1998 5.9 Ram in 1 1/2 hours. Your idea to insert the bolts into the old pump is excellent, as I doubt I would have remembered the sequence. Also removing the block drain bolt and putting a hose on the radiator petcock saved alot of mess. I did remove the shroud before beginning pump removal, as it gives you 100% better access. Also, make sure to put the belt back on before the fan/shroud. Saves time and headaches. Again, thanks for the vid...

  • I get to do this exact job today. Nice to see I don' t have to remove any accessories (a/c/alt/pws) to get it done.

  • I'm working on a Ram 1500 and was going by the Haynes manual that said I needed a Fan Removal Tool. WRONG they don't work! This was what I should have looked at first. Excellant Vid. THANKS!!!

  • @rightimnot You're welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Excellent!

  • livesaver. thanks tons.

  • I had to change the waterpump in my Dakota not too long ago... I ended up taking the pump to a machine shop, and had them remove the fan clutch.

  • @bluetoaster8822 Whatever it takes man... whatever it takes. = )

  • Great vid!

  • @tyson7899 Thank you!

  • @briansmobile1

Thanks...that was VERY helpful for me on my 1998 Dodge Ram1500! Appreciates your time!

  • @prodigitalgear With thanks like that it's worth it. Glad to help!

  • As my son would say - Beast! it took me 8 hours just to get everything out of my 2001Ram 5.9. i came to realize how much stuff needed changing: the hoses, the thermostat, the piece above the thermostat. victory was short lived, i was forced to shut down my back alley operation when i could not for the life of me remove the fan off of the old water pump. i see now i have to bolt it back on and then pry it off as you demonstrated. i saved hundreds! 5 stars, one of the best vids i've ever watched.

  • @262metal Wow! Thanks!

  • @briansmobile1 completed the job and i'm back on the road! seems to be running smoothly and no leaks anywhere but i have a few questions again: i cranked down on that fan clutch when i installed it back on the pump. if i didn't do it right, am i looking at a catastrophic failure & breakdown on the road? i'm kinda skittish about driving it on the highway. another thing is the temp - it barely comes up to 140-160. is that normal?

  • @262metal You'll be fine. It tightens as you drive run the motor and accelerate. Usually engines rev up faster than they slow down.

  • i just spent 2 and a half hours trying to get the fan and the fan shroud out so i can replace my water pump and i didnt know what to do to get them off and this video was excellent...now i know what to do thanks man

  • @janson2085 Way to go! I'm glad you won!

  • thanks for posting! I replaced the water pump and fan clutch in a 97 Ram yesterday.

  • @SugaMetal07 You're welcome- thanks for the thanks!

  • Great Video, thanks for taking the time in your cold garage to make it!

Just thought I'd add to your viewers that I believe you can use a 5/8 in.

box wrench instead of buying a t-50 socket for the top center bolt!

    Regards, Mitch

  • @cctvspystore Thanks Mitch!

  • Great video man. Keep them coming.

  • I am about to replace the Water-Pump on my 1998 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V6. This video, was great, I now have a better idea what Im up against. thanks briansmobile1

  • @LafreniereJ Sure no prob. Good luck!

  • I've never owned a dodge untill I bought a 00 dodge ram 5.9. Very simular job for the water pump. Great detail, and awsome explanations. Thank you for the video.

  • Great video! How different is the water pump on the 3.9L on my Dakota? I need to do mine.

  • @joefish534 What year is yours?

  • @briansmobile1 it's a 2003, sorry

  • @briansmobile1 Yours takes 2.6 hrs. with A/C & power steering. Mine is 2.8 with A/C and Power Steering. Yours is less labor, but barely.

  • I just replaced my water pump, yesterday, on my RAM 1500 with a 5.2. I wish I found this video before I attempted it. You have some good tips and tricks.

  • @melardo00 Cool- glad you like it!

  • Hey, Thank for a great video. It really helped me out. Good job!

  • @aquario209 Glad you liked it!

  • Your video was put together awesome. I have a 5.9 R/T in which I'll be changing my water pump or gasket tomorrow. Your video was a good heads up to what I may encounter. Thanks dude!!
