I'd really recommend trying to use more of your ring and pinky finger. Playing with just the middle finger (like you do quite a lot) I think you make life a little hard for yourself. I guess it's down to what's most comfortable though

have you ever actally tried alternate plecking?? if not i would start now because theres nooo way you'll do grade 8 like that i started alternat plecking when i startyed grade 1 my teacher told me if i dont get alternate plecking i wont get to grade 2:O

but ive finished grade 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, im going to my grade 8 exam in a few months

@eoin1712 , you dont need a teacher in order to take the grade. just buy the book and learn the pieces and when you think your ready to take them book an exam, all the details are on the rockschool website. =) hope that helps.

how is the test divided up? like how much percent is everthing worth?

the test is out of 100 marks : 20 for each piece = 60. technical exercises = 10. Quick study piece = 15. Ear tests = 10. General musicianship questions = 5.

A pass is 65 marks, merit 75, destinction 85.

um... keep relaxed, try taking your mind off of it before hand cause sometimes it'll just freak you out thinking "ahh i cant remember this section" when all it is is nerves. But most of all just think that you have to prove yourself to the examiner so just put everything you have into it and rock out, enjoy it and come out smiling !!
