Does Opera Turbo use some sort of proxy server? If it does why doesn't it use a server in the US instead of connecting to Oslo, Norway? Connecting from Mountain View, California to Oslo really causes the connection to be slower, not faster due to ping. If someone could explain how to use the US proxy servers for Turbo, I'll be very grateful. Thanks.
for me it slows everything down, when enabled...and turbo or not turbo...why the browser has so much trouble with java? for example, youtube has an optional java based upload function for data which exceeds 2 gb.... but opera strikes...just one example...!
@technofreak23 Opera also have servers in USA, as well as in other countries. Also choosing Auto on the turbo config will make it turn off turbo when u're on a fast nework.
I'm on a slow connection, and I have to say that previous Turbo Mode wasn't as effective. Now, my pages are rendering fast. A great improvement to an already great feature. Opera is pretty dope. Like you try it and you want to use it now...
I now use Opera after I was recommended by a good friend of mine.
I love what I see so far, but could someone please explain turbo mode more in depth. I guess what I'm trying to ask is the reason you would have for turning it off, if it can only make your browser FASTER. Are there some drawbacks to long term turbo use? Does it only work on slow connections? Why don't other browsers have this feature? I just want to know some more information on it.
@DistortedV12 Opera turbo acts mainly on the images handling side, rendering them not in one go but in several steps, so when you open an image with opera turbo on, you will first see it pixelated then it will fully render as soon as every bit of information is received just like any other browser
The only time when you might not want to have it on, is when you're searching for images, other than that always helps you get to the information you're searching without loading unwanted stuff
@pj1986 It's not exactly that, in fact when you turn on the Turbo Opea will use a "proxy" to load the website and filter some images as you mentioned it. So if you don't use a full open network the Turbo mode will just stop working (I tested it at my office and it display an error message)...

I also have to say: They really, really need to get a better narrator. She seems to have only glanced at her lines before recording; she falters at times and doesn't put emphasis on anything. She also has an incredibly annoying voice.
On a side note, getting to this page with the Turbo on took three tries. Three times the page loaded poorly using a feature they're trying to pimp as being great. Opera's kind of the redheaded stepchild of browsers. =\
@hdzsound believe it is very useful when you have an older computer or a slower network speed; and in the recent generations of computers the turbo button was reintroduced (e.g intel sandy bridge)
if speed is the main focus in this which is included in the latest opera browser and if speed and what everyone wants, than why is it even an option to turn it off?
because Opera Turbo works best when the network is slow.
I know what you mean. I've tried in the past to turn on Opera Turbo when I was on a fast network to try to get even faster web page loading speed but it doesn't work. Actually, it loaded very slowly when I had Opera Turbo turned on while on a fast network.
The trade off of using Opera Turbo is that the images are of lower resolution...a tiny bit fuzzy...but it works and it works well !
@hdzsound yeah, because downloading a webpage is all about the browser amirite? You may want to take into account that they're talking about mobile network
@hdzsound They are trying to show you the difference in the two... One is faster than the other and it is easier to show this while using a slow connection.
@hellosleinad Opera Turbo compresses pages, which means images will look worse. So if you're on a fast connection, turning on Opera Turbo may actually make it slower because it takes longer to compress the images than to download them fully.
@hellosleinad Actually, most people will turn off Turbo because it really only makes it worse (sometimes slows it down, fucks with the images, often doesn't load a page properly); what Opera should really do is make a browser, only good this time.
@KingofTypoes In fact Opera always warns you that Turbo is only useful on slow connections. And that you should not turn it on unless you really need it.
Good feature, but may i suggest that whoever announces your ads to not rough up their voice like that? it makes it sound like they just woke up, and a microphone happened to be around to catch what they thought of this new feature.
Yup thanks

Opera Turbo is only for people who haves a slow connection. So if you're have a fast connection (like me) then you don't need Opera Turbo.

@robertone10 Turbo is only useful if you are on a slow connection.
On a fast connection, Opera drastically slows down the page as the information needs to be routed to norway and back to you.
