More important to me than the fuel it uses, Congress has alocuted new moneys to retrofit and upgrade the A-10s so they will be around for the foreseeable future. Anyone whose is or was in the army will (or should) state how much they love this aircraft, its so damn ugly if you look at it long enough, it becomes beautiful. The problem is the water that is being used to help cool the processors; a person who ran the plant was about to take a drink of it but when a gentlemen went to lite a cigar to 'celebrate' the success of the refinery, the water in a cup he took as a sample ignited. It literally sparked and was a fire for a few seconds.

Jet fuel is basically kerosene which is a slightly more refined diesel fuel. If a diesel can run on bio fuel, why not a jet engine. This is not a new concept. The A-1 Abrams tank can run on any fuel which is basically flammable and it also uses a turbine engine not far removed from the A-10s.

The term 'fossil fuels' comes from the idea that they were formed by plant matter trapped in the earths crust, fossil does not imply Dinosaur, although dinosaurs, like everything, can leave fossils. A-10's are slow-flying aircraft. They're generally designed to destroy anything on the ground, considering their GAU-8 Minigun equipped with 1350 rounds, firing 8000rpm, each bullet being a 30mm high-explosive round, the A-10 can litterally stop itself in mid air with its minigun.

Pilots are instructed to fire in bursts so the plane does not stall.

Lastly, pilots are not instructed to fire bursts because of stalling, they fire bursts so as not to warp the barrels of the gun with the intense heat of the rounds.

However, the pilots don't fire the gun continuously because there aren't enough rounds to do so.
