More important to me than the fuel it uses, Congress has alocuted new moneys to retrofit and upgrade the A-10s so they will be around for the foreseeable future. Anyone whose is or was in the army will (or should) state how much they love this aircraft, its so damn ugly if you look at it long enough, it becomes beautiful. Not to mention it was primarily designed to be a tank killer which it has done exceedingly well.
@ryushahkola Like any used car salesman, the U.S. Govt. has tried to sell everyone on how much better biofuel is to conventional avaition fuel is (theoretically). However, on the battle field, the performance is a little less better than conventional fuels. Modern day war machines that the U. S. uses weren't designed to use this biofuel so the effects aren't completely known at this time but it doesn't look as promising as we were led to believe. Political correctness to the extreme.
@ryushahkola One thing I can tell you for sure; the same U.S. govt has been selling the idea of Natural Gas as a viable fuel sourse for years, the problem is that it has an additive of methane; up to 90 % to be certain. Methane is not enviornmentally friendly and yet the Natural gas that is enviornmentally friendly has to be mixed with methane to make it more conbustable. Sounds like more Political correctness to me.
@ryushahkola In a recent test by some of the companies that are investing to refine biofuel, like natural gas has touted how clean the refining process is in like respects. The problem is the water that is being used to help cool the processors; a person who ran the plant was about to take a drink of it but when a gentlemen went to lite a cigar to 'celebrate' the success of the refinery, the water in a cup he took as a sample ignited. It literally sparked and was a fire for a few seconds.
@ryushahkola The plant was closed down and they ushered everyone out. It was a disaster! All this talk of clean burning fuel, like the biofuels that are being touted; I wonder how effective it really is and how reliable it is. Only time can tell. One hint I didn't pick up on is that virtually eveyone at the test drove restored earily 70's american muscle cars that ran on gasonline. That should of been a hint. To answer your original question; who knows for sure.
how is biofuel green?. fucking off the soil is green?. Leaving ppl with no food to make that "biofuel" is green?. Wasting more oil to produce biofuel than the energy you will get... how is that green?. OH god, the planet is full of retards...
Jet fuel is basically kerosene which is a slightly more refined diesel fuel. If a diesel can run on bio fuel, why not a jet engine. This is not a new concept. The A-1 Abrams tank can run on any fuel which is basically flammable and it also uses a turbine engine not far removed from the A-10s.
Its all "Bull Shit". we will never run out of carbon based fuels. the whole idea that carbon based fuel comes from dinosaur's is a hoaxes. not one credible scientist or chemist even believes that.
We had paper shortage, coffee shortage, sugar shortage, even global warming. which has now been changed to "Climate Change" to fit there argument. then we had oil shortage.
You want to stop waste? Stop wasting time and money on subsidized fuel alternatives. Food cost enough from corn based fuel BS!
@WizzRacing Actually, all credible scientists believe that carbon based fuels come from fossilised carbon sources. No one claims that it comes from dinosaurs, apparently you were educated by a hammer to the head. The world is of finite size, therefore all resources based on the earth itself are finite, you would have to be truly intellectually bankrupt to not see that. Grow up and leave the problem solving to the big boys, you stick to your truck driving.
@7th75thCallaghan Actually your wrong. they have went back and looked at 80 year old wells. they found that the wells had more oil then when they were abandoned. this lead scientist to believe the earths crust and under great pressure was producing carbon based fuel. not "Fossil Fuels" which gets its name from Dinosaurs! hence the name "Fossil". you might try and keep up with new scientific discoveries and thinking. UTA can produce Carbon based fuel from natural gas. keep up with the big boys!
@WizzRacing I can assure you I am not wrong. The term 'fossil fuels' comes from the idea that they were formed by plant matter trapped in the earths crust, fossil does not imply Dinosaur, although dinosaurs, like everything, can leave fossils. However, it is likely that, as carbon-based life forms, Dinosaurs do comprise a very small percentage of that fossil fuel. With regard to abandoned wells having more oil, that is just logical, we do not have the equipment to extract 100% of the
@WizzRacing oil from any one source, so of course over time it settles and when you return to the source, you can extract a little more. You need to remember that oil deposits span a huge volume, and take a long time to move and settle. Natural gas IS a carbon based fuel, so what you said there is irrelevant. I have a strong scientific background, and no offence but you do not know what you are talking about.
@7th75thCallaghan Well I been working in Oil Fields for 25 years. So I know what I'm talking about. you don't seem to understand the subject outside your own little world. oil is not based on any "Life" forum. it does not have D.N.A. chlorine or organic material in it at all! so it can't be "Fossil" based. same reason coal is not organic material as well.
You might try and get a degree in common logic. outside what the college professor repeating the party line.
@WizzRacing Instead of bouncing back and forth, read up on the following on wikipedia and you will get it.
1. Organic chemistry (you will see that organic = carbon based; all organic life = carbon based)
2. Hydrocarbons - Crude oil and natural gas are made almost exclusively from hydrocarbons, these hydrocarbons are the result of organic plant matter breaking down in a high pressure, high temp environment. For a simple and faster example of the process, think grass-cow-methane.
Anyone else see the humor in a war machine that kills tanks & blows shit up using biofuel? What do they want to minimize their carbon footprint while maximizing the amount of damage they do on the ground? The fuck sense does this make?
@hazonku Knowing that "biofuel" isn't really very green as it uses A LOT of energy to produce it (coming from you know), then we can also find that it is perfectly logical. However, the driving force behind this may not being "green", but rather that they want to test the engines for alternative fuel. Remember that the oil-supply may be choked on fairly short notice.
Not trying to be "Debbie Downer" but aren't all turbine engines by nature of design able to accept many different types of fuels with little to no modifications?? Hell, you could technically use the cooking oil from your local China Buffet once properly filtered.
Those aircraft use depleted uranium ammunition. The dust produced on impact is breathed in by people and results in severe birth defects in infants and major health issues for adults. Hundreds of thousands of people were affected by DU in Iraq after the first Gulf war and now there are countless more victims.
Still, at least US capitalists are making obscene profits right?
@DuffmanIRL Fail. They used them in the 1st Gulf War. They don't use them and do you know why they used them in the first place? That dust is called Radiation.
@punisher102938 Go look it up again. It means that the highly radioactive isotope U235 is removed and only the LOW radioactive isotope U238 is left. This isotope will radiate less, but all of it will radiate. The half-time is 4.5 bn years. However, the intensity is very low and the biggest risk with U238 is probably not the radiation itself, but probably the damage it can do if it gets into your body radiating it from the inside.
@punisher102938 actually your response is completely retarded.... "radiation is used" LOL. replying a person using so retarded arguements makes you look as low as a chimp... well actually you are one. Actually, the only use for radiation is to kill ppl mostly if you talk about uranium. What we use is the heat from the reaction, not the radiation, you ignorant fuckturd.
its proven bio-fuel is just as bad as oil fuel, it takes just as much time, resources and energy to grow the food and then transmute into bio-fuel...
the only real nature friendly "fuel" is hydrogen but you wont see this going mainstream anytime soon all ours cars are made to accept bio fuel, gas and diesel all the major oil corporations are just fucking destroying our earth, waters and air just to keep on making profits with the oil they find its really sad
January 21, 2011: The US army is now growing bio engineered edible ammunition. Including Deadly Armor Piercing .50 cal Carrots, Pineapple Grenades (literally).
Imagine how much vegetable oil is used to fry all that junk food. The home of the most obese people in the world is probably best placed to supply any air force with 'alternative fuel'.
one of the guys at eglin air force base said they were still testing this... so we dont have to worry about fully going green and getting our nuke veggies just yet.
@Akraath01 I have seen bio fuels being used in the Air Force since about 2004. The military has become nothing but a test bed for social programs and agendas by the govt.
The US military is the main consumer of fuel in the world. If they would change all of their consumption to bio fuel etc the world would grow hungry and food prices would go up ****** they are not doing this to save the planet, they are trying to cut be less dependend on oil (also ok ofc)
A-10's are slow-flying aircraft. They're generally designed to destroy anything on the ground, considering their GAU-8 Minigun equipped with 1350 rounds, firing 8000rpm, each bullet being a 30mm high-explosive round, the A-10 can litterally stop itself in mid air with its minigun.
Pilots are instructed to fire in bursts so the plane does not stall.
@hacksign5 dude you are an idiot, i dont know where you got your info on the A-10 but for one its not a "mini gun" its a full size gatling style gun, it fires at most 4200 rnds per minute, the aircraft does not "literally stop itself in midair with the gun". How the fuck would it continue flying if it "literally stopped" in midair. Lastly, pilots are not instructed to fire bursts because of stalling, they fire bursts so as not to warp the barrels of the gun with the intense heat of the rounds.
@AFGGRP While the a/c of course doesn't fire itself into a stall (that would be quite stupid), the blowback from the GAU, if fired persistently, could force the a/c into a stall. However, the pilots don't fire the gun continuously because there aren't enough rounds to do so. To operate the weapon accurately and with enough munitions to destroy multiple targets, the pilot must fire short bursts.
@hacksign5 you dopey twat, it's a full on gatling gun for one, secondly it's rate of fire is 4200rpm, thirdly it's not a bullet it's a shell, fourthly if it could stop itself in mid flight they wouldn't equip that cannon on the plane, and lastly pilots fire bursts to conserve ammunition and so that the barrels don't warp.
I have no idea where you got your facts from but you screwed up BIG time
You must be on drugs of some sort. The AO-10 just got a huge upgrade to all glass cockpit and ability to carry JDAMs and even before the upgrade the aircraft was by far the most requested CAS type in Afghanistan AND Iraq. With the new upgrades, the aircraft is projected to serve past 2020.
you could fill the engine of this beast with milkshake, it would steal be an unstoppable killing machine.... everyone knows that it fuels from enemy fear
Biofuel is a crap. It is not green at all, there's an energetic cost in their making that does not compensate the use of biofuel. We need real ALTERNATIVE energy
The real test will come when you need it most... Need to get away from a SAM or an inceptor aircraft that wants to engage, you hit the burners and then the engines cut out or sputters out like a car does when you WOT it then stalls & backfires going through the bad gas in the tank. Hopefully our aircrew will never have to face or go through that type of problem.
Hey that's not a bad Idea bio degradable bullets and bombs; that way the unexploded ones go ineart after awile not killing civilians. "God has a hard on for marines they keep hevan full of fresh soles." F.M.J.
join the airforce, now with 50% less emissions but still the 100% pure depleted urainium shells that that create radioactive dust that you know and love
Yes, agrofuels are green but they literally eat away at our food source. If all of the US's 90 million acre corn crop were converted to ethanol, just 12-16% of our current gasoline usage would be replaced.
Biofuel in the engines but depleated uranium 30mm bullets at 6000 rounds a minute. Yeah I dont have to worry about global warming, I'll just die of cancer instead, Well logical
save the planet!! use Bio fuel in your plane and then go kill people with it lol. Whats next Enviromentaly friendly Warheads? Bio Degradable bombs? I mean comon!!!
@andysim212 actually killing people is saving the planet =) for every person killed there many many more that cannot be. lower population equals less garbage and resouces used.
have you ever thought about that this is about being independent from oil imports? kind of important in the future in a strategic sense, don't you think?
@andysim212 Actually guess what? Russia just made an environmental-friendly nuke. It does just as much damage as a nuke, except it doesn't release all that stuff into the ecosystem. Go Russia!
@TEHGROUND Oh wow a nuclear bomb without radiation? Your joking right? Shall I remind you who made the first nuclear bomb? If we made the first nuclear bomb. What makes you think we never made a non-nuclear bomb? That is like saying Russia made the first best 5th gen jet when in fact US beat them to it early. So now the russians say they are better but all USA has to do is make another 5th gen and it will own it.
Bio-fuel actually creates more pollution thru the extraction and processing of the fuel, overall, and you still burn the fuel, after more emmision etc etc etc, look it up no joke
wow 35 years later after it was made looky new toys

its proven bio-fuel is just as bad as oil fuel, it takes just as much time, resources and energy to grow the food and then transmute into bio-fuel...
the only real nature friendly "fuel" is hydrogen but you wont see this going mainstream anytime soon all ours cars are made to accept bio fuel, gas and diesel all the major oil corporations are just fucking destroying our earth, waters and air just to keep on making profits with the oil they find its really sad

Imagine how much vegetable oil is used to fry all that junk food. The home of the most obese people in the world is probably best placed to supply any air force with 'alternative fuel'.

What about the poor plants that died while making the biofuel?

one of the guys at eglin air force base said they were still testing this... so we dont have to worry about fully going green and getting our nuke veggies just yet.

guys notice the guy who's fueling it looks like voldemort..?
redeljann 1 year ago
Firing bullets of depleted uranium and then using bio fuel to compensate the environmental impact really makes sense :-)
Akraath01 1 year ago
@Akraath01 I have seen bio fuels being used in the Air Force since about 2004. The military has become nothing but a test bed for social programs and agendas by the govt.
Warpath2198 1 year ago
The US military is the main consumer of fuel in the world. If they would change all of their consumption to bio fuel etc the world would grow hungry and food prices would go up ****** they are not doing this to save the planet, they are trying to cut be less dependend on oil (also ok ofc)

A-10's are slow-flying aircraft. They're generally designed to destroy anything on the ground, considering their GAU-8 Minigun equipped with 1350 rounds, firing 8000rpm, each bullet being a 30mm high-explosive round, the A-10 can litterally stop itself in mid air with its minigun.
Pilots are instructed to fire in bursts so the plane does not stall.
hacksign5 1 year ago
@hacksign5 dude you are an idiot, i dont know where you got your info on the A-10 but for one its not a "mini gun" its a full size gatling style gun, it fires at most 4200 rnds per minute, the aircraft does not "literally stop itself in midair with the gun". How the fuck would it continue flying if it "literally stopped" in midair. Lastly, pilots are not instructed to fire bursts because of stalling, they fire bursts so as not to warp the barrels of the gun with the intense heat of the rounds.
AFGGRP 1 year ago 2
@AFGGRP While the a/c of course doesn't fire itself into a stall (that would be quite stupid), the blowback from the GAU, if fired persistently, could force the a/c into a stall. However, the pilots don't fire the gun continuously because there aren't enough rounds to do so. To operate the weapon accurately and with enough munitions to destroy multiple targets, the pilot must fire short bursts.
afcgeo 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@AFGGRP just what do you think stalling is?
ghettobraden 9 months ago
@hacksign5 you dopey twat, it's a full on gatling gun for one, secondly it's rate of fire is 4200rpm, thirdly it's not a bullet it's a shell, fourthly if it could stop itself in mid flight they wouldn't equip that cannon on the plane, and lastly pilots fire bursts to conserve ammunition and so that the barrels don't warp.
I have no idea where you got your facts from but you screwed up BIG time
MegaTechnomaster 9 months ago
hahahaha. yay finally they started flying with biofuel. now they just need to get rid of all the bombs they carry.

Biofuel is a crap. It is not green at all, there's an energetic cost in their making that does not compensate the use of biofuel. We need real ALTERNATIVE energy

soulofastro 1 year ago
The real test will come when you need it most... Need to get away from a SAM or an inceptor aircraft that wants to engage, you hit the burners and then the engines cut out or sputters out like a car does when you WOT it then stalls & backfires going through the bad gas in the tank. Hopefully our aircrew will never have to face or go through that type of problem.

Yes, agrofuels are green but they literally eat away at our food source. If all of the US's 90 million acre corn crop were converted to ethanol, just 12-16% of our current gasoline usage would be replaced.

Are you stupid?
Fuel is for power. Power is for energy. Energy to move.
Why the fuck does the word warheads and bombs fall in your category?
JinKazama92 11 months ago
Bio-fuel actually creates more pollution thru the extraction and processing of the fuel, overall, and you still burn the fuel, after more emmision etc etc etc, look it up no joke
