For someone to devote their entire life to God like the Franciscan Friars do is inspiring to all, regardless of religion. Such a beautiful song and even more beautiful saint. I grew up a few blocks from a contemplative house for the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa) and you see the nuns walking by and they literally shine with kindness, it's impossible not to notice. Many times I've walked by these humble white sari wearing ladies, that even my then 3 year old wanted to take off with them.

@wattever333 It's anti-Christian. Jesus admonished the Pharases for placing themselves as authorities between man and God. This is precicely what the Catholic Church does with intercessors (priests) to whom men are to confess sins. But the Word of God states we have no intercessor but Christ. I love this movie, all-time favorite. But don't know that such good looking Francis and Clare were necessary to maintain interest in the film. Jesus was "uncomeley in appearance" [Isaiah 53?] (unattractive), and accounts of Francis were that he too was unattractive. Clare in this film is breathtakingly beautiful. Why is the usual Hollywood method of using beautiful people necessary in this film? To provide contrast, juxtaposition with the lepers? Doesn't seem necessary. Feedback?

I work with a down syndrome person and he has the most simplest mind. Sometimes I wonder how it would be like if we were all simple minded like him and I dream that the world would be so happy. But at the same time, would the world progress in technology, in engineering, in thought - could we sacrifice all this for an ever increasing world of love? I don't know.

the person in the still shot is st francis from the movie brother sun sister moon - not donovan. Donovan is the person who sang the songs of that movie and was never shown in the movie as an actor; to be frank, i don't even know how he looks like.

Saint Francis was an amazing father and teacher of the Gospel of Christ. He knew Jesus and lived his life in modeling the life of Christ like very few have done. I pray that we can imitate his love and holiness. Peace be with you!

I love this movie, all-time favorite. But don't know that such good looking Francis and Clare were necessary to maintain interest in the film. Jesus was "uncomeley in appearance" [Isaiah 53?] (unattractive), and accounts of Francis were that he too was unattractive. Clare in this film is breathtakingly beautiful. Why is the usual Hollywood method of using beautiful people necessary in this film? To provide contrast, juxtaposition with the lepers? Doesn't seem necessary. Feedback?

@Azorka82 , a confession: I watched this film when I was about 14...Its message touched me and influenced my life forever.... but I must confess that, when I watched it again as a fully adult woman, I suspected that Graham Faulkner's breathtaking look helped touching so deeply the innocent little woman I was...It could be necessary....remember Plato.....he identified external and internal beauty... maybe children and teens are still platonic?
