God, seriously, they probably both give Eddie head all day long and then toss his salad at night. What a couple of jock sniffers, Eddie is a good guitar player but in reality van halen just didn't age all that well, their music just wasnt that good.
The british fella has very very thin lips and sounds like a real tool. I bet he has a damp, limp handshake as well. I got a feeling he'd sell his mothers soul to make a buck.
As far as "the best guitar built to date" I think you get to a point and you loose the whole tonasity thing, and I beleive he is past that point, The EBMM evh guitar is more the players guitar, the new evh is more of a conversation piece!
No one can deny that Eddie changed the way we play and make guitars. That is undisputed. But what has he done musically in the last 10 years? We are all awaiting this rumored album that is supposed to come out soon. If you think about it, every guitar he has put his name to he has called it the best thing to date (which is a given) but to think that the pickups are that much better, well its the same guy, same ear, same taste. pickups are probably pretty close to the same too.
I don't think that they are built as good as the peavey wolfgangs. The Peavey cost $2000 the EVH $3000 The Peavey had a birdseye maple neck, the EVH doesn't. The Peavey pickups had solid metal mounting plates. The EVH doesn't (on the model I tested you could see were the pickup mounting screws had buckled the bottom plate) As far I can tell the only improvements are the Stainless frets, low friction pots, and 5 ply binding(if you can call that an improvement).
i hate eddy van halen as a person, and i hate thinking that this guitar is making him money, but it is nice. it is by far the fastest and most comfortable guitar i've played. the headstock is really ugly though and it isn't a 3000 dollar guitar, maybe 1500.
I love EVH. Awesome guitarist and true innovator... BUT don't you think its ironic that the Eddie that we all love gained his notoriety and immortal tone out of some pretty shitty DIY gear, pure inspiration and innovation and amazing chops to boot. It is sad that he is now just a billboard of endorsements and super expensive gear as a means for income as opposed to getting back in the saddle with the mighty VH and start making some music again. How jaded..
A few thoughts on this...first, everyone's re-inventing the wheel the calling it something new. It looks like a two humbucker, floyd rose guitar- nothing really new. Second, they call EVH a "tonechaser". No disrespect to Eddie, but his tone has remained virtually the same for 25 yrs. The basis of his sound was a Strat with a single humbucker.
@snoopyd80 Chasing the tone he likes, of course it's not gonna change drastically, but it did change - especially after the 70's when it got colder, then when he switched to Peavey and Music Man vs. Marshall and Charvel it changed a lot. Definately got cleaner sounding live, but now he's back to the screaming big dirty, just with a whooole shitload more gain, and an intensely harmonic guitar. That wolfgang is more harmonic than any guitar out there.
@snoopyd80 I agree, Eddie virtually did not change the tone of his guitar at all. All he did was take the Frankenstein sound and put it into a more professionally made guitar body.

Don't buy it because it's "an Eddie guitar", buy it because you like the way it sounds and feels. I play an Ibanez Jem 77FP, not because "it's the Steve Vai guitar", but because I love the sound, the feel and the way it looks. As far as being "over priced", a product has a price, and if people are willing to pay that, then it's not over priced. A product is worth whatever people are willing to pay.
As far as quality, if it's good enough for Eddie, it's good enough for anyone watching this.

I hear ya man,I have an original Ernie Ball EVH sig,and a couple buddies have a Peavey and Fender and we have played them side by side many times.They cant believe how much better the EB sounds,but they say they bought those guitars as collectore pieces.I only paid 1600.00 for mine new,lol.

Well satinless efects the resonance of the strings and ultimately has an effect on its over all tone.Alot of people dont like it,and when they were first becoming polular and people were having their necks refretted with stainless fretwire the reviews were bad.But its all a matter of taste.This is a collectors guitar,other than that there are many guitars just as good,but more versatile than this for alot less money.

plastic,bone,Steel nuts all effect resonance,same with one bridge to another depending on weight/alloys in the steel.Fretboard woods too,and yes STAILESS frets.Everything has an effect on something if you dont know that you have no business arguing about anything that has to do with building guitars.Noob

Budget has nothing to do with it. I've seen guitars worth no more than a few hundred dollars sound inhuman. I've also seen guitars worth thousands sound like something you'd get out of a cereal box. My current guitar is a washburn WG-580, which is discontinued. It's about 14 years old, and If someone offered a trade between my guitar and this one, I'd do nothing but laugh, before sending him on his way so I could continue playing.
As for the fender comment... I've heard Squiers that sound pretty fucking good, and that's saying something from a guy who is VERY picky on guitars and their sounds. It depends on what the person thinks. To you a squier may be shit, but to someone else, it could be one hell of a guitar.
Btw, you've probably looked up the price of a WG-580 nowadays. I can tell you 2 things. One, I bought my guitar for less than half of the price of this guitar at the time this video went up. Two, my Washburn is currently worth more than the retail price of the wolfgang stated in this video, and not by a little bit. If you know ANYTHING at all about guitar, you'd know you don't have grounds to call bullshit on that one. Try not to be a dick next time, kay? =P

Not much has matched it from a tonal and playability aspect. If the EVH Wolfgang is better than what I have it's definitely worth the money. That being said I've not seen one of these going for $3,000. Value is subjective. If you think it's not worth it don't buy it

It's all on preference. Some 200$ starter kit fender may be worth thousands to someone, just like some high priced custom may be worth peanuts to another. I personally don't think it's worth the money, so I'm obviously not going to buy it. Im plenty happy with my Washburn. =]

I think the Ernie Ball EVH and the Peavey Wolfgang are both top notch guitars. I can't say anything bad about either one. I bought the Peavey because it sounded a little thicker than the EB I compared it to (it weighs a bit more, and I like that:).
I know Neil Zaza has played both and the one he always goes back to is his original red EB. Both are killer guitars MADE IN USA!!!

Guy,making claims of your amazing talent is nothing but claims.I own a Jem 90th Ham,2200.00,more than its worth.I also own a Jem 10th 5000.00 worth every penny to me.I also have a Jem YTK DNA 5600.00 used,paid way more than the guitar is worth.Same with my 20th,5g and way to much for bells and whistles.The only point im trying to make is that this like them is overpriced for what it is a name.And every other review on this axe consensus is its way to much,but if your a collector it is.End of it
The Fender Frankenstrat wis worth over 5g,is the guitar worth that of cours not.But to a collector it may be.This guitar is not a special addition anything,and if you look at the reviews from Die Hard wolfgang fans most say its overpriced,look at the comments there is half a dozen reviews of this guitar that all say the same thing.But you come on here calling people names,cursing in every comment to validate what is not true.If it's worth it to you great,but most guitarists feel it is not.

@petiethepitt it was an Ibane destroyer and it was made in the 70's, the one's today are garbage. I tried one today and I thought I was going to break it, it was so flimsy.
Now that I will agree with.Since 03 Ibanez products have went downhill,any Ibanez collector will tell you that.But every Ibanez Enthusiast will tell you that 80's and 90's were the best Ibanez guitars they ever made.I wont buy a post 03 model of anything Ibanez makes other than a collectable.But it doesnt change the fact that the new wolfgang is overpriced,clearly not to you but to most it is,read the comments.

I think I was getting uptight cause this EVH WG was one of the best guitars out I've seen in ages, and I have researched it a lot. They really did put a lot into it. Hey I don't like the price, but I am sure it'll come down.

I've played this guitar at a local music store. I am a normal sized guy and immediately noticed it's small compact and comfortable...Has great neck action and the pick ups are very quiet...
Not traditionally hissing like my custom made Kramer with the brown sound pick up..
I like the guitar but I think this guitar is over priced...I played it and walked away.
Not many guitars justify this price except for Gibson or a PRS.
I agree that this is way overpriced but Gibson and PRS are just as guilty of being overpriced names.Guitars in this price range that are worth more than just the name they sport IMO are Suhr,Vigier,Breedlove,,,,,PRS and Gibson have nothing on them or many other manufacturers.Just paying for the name.But whatever keeps you playing is all that really matters I guess.

If I were going to look for a wolfgang I would just buy the original and best IMO,Ernie Ball,but being an Ibanez guy if I spend over 2g on a guitar it has to be somewhat familiar thats where Suhr is my top pick for rediculously priced guitars,lol.
It's hard to justify 3g+ for a guitar but at least with John Suhr guitars no 2 of any model are exactly the same.And the attention to detail is second to none.I only own 2 modern 24's,but have played a few classic t's and archtop's and everyone I have ever played has been amazing sounding and playing.I look foward to adding a few more Suhr guitars to my collection.
There are plenty of companies that sell bodies and necks! The hardest part is soldering the pickups in and if you don't know how to - the setup can be a pain . But you can spend about $80 to have a pro setup done or just learn how.

it's amazing, but true, that most Artist guitars (far lesser artists) have equal to far greater price points, this is still $800-1000 overpriced, so Fender can suck on that, see how many they sell for $3k...there are very few guitars on the market that are worth the outrageous sums that are charged, Gibson being the main culprit in the price-gouging bizness...what Les Paul is worth $3000-10,000, unless it was made by Les Paul himself...and had that black box included...

Dont know why you got thumbs down for that because your right.Peavey was the second.Ernie Ball was the original designers for Ed's wolfgang not peavey.And the best IMO,Ernie Ball makes a much better product.Just my opinion though,whatever works for you and keeps you playing is all that really matters.Brand names have very little to do with that.

No one can deny that Eddie changed the way we play and make guitars. That is undisputed. But what has he done musically in the last 10 years? We are all awaiting this rumored album that is supposed to come out soon. If you think about it, every guitar he has put his name to he has called it the best thing to date (which is a given) but to think that the pickups are that much better, well its the same guy, same ear, same taste. pickups are probably pretty close to the same too.

I don't think that they are built as good as the peavey wolfgangs. The Peavey cost $2000 the EVH $3000 The Peavey had a birdseye maple neck, the EVH doesn't. The Peavey pickups had solid metal mounting plates. The EVH doesn't (on the model I tested you could see were the pickup mounting screws had buckled the bottom plate) As far I can tell the only improvements are the Stainless frets, low friction pots, and 5 ply binding(if you can call that an improvement).

i hate eddy van halen as a person, and i hate thinking that this guitar is making him money, but it is nice. it is by far the fastest and most comfortable guitar i've played. the headstock is really ugly though and it isn't a 3000 dollar guitar, maybe 1500.

A few thoughts on this...first, everyone's re-inventing the wheel the calling it something new. It looks like a two humbucker, floyd rose guitar- nothing really new. Second, they call EVH a "tonechaser". No disrespect to Eddie, but his tone has remained virtually the same for 25 yrs. The basis of his sound was a Strat with a single humbucker.

@snoopyd80 Chasing the tone he likes, of course it's not gonna change drastically, but it did change - especially after the 70's when it got colder, then when he switched to Peavey and Music Man vs. Marshall and Charvel it changed a lot. Definately got cleaner sounding live, but now he's back to the screaming big dirty, just with a whooole shitload more gain, and an intensely harmonic guitar. That wolfgang is more harmonic than any guitar out there.

Don't buy it because it's "an Eddie guitar", buy it because you like the way it sounds and feels. I play an Ibanez Jem 77FP, not because "it's the Steve Vai guitar", but because I love the sound, the feel and the way it looks. As far as being "over priced", a product has a price, and if people are willing to pay that, then it's not over priced. A product is worth whatever people are willing to pay.
As far as quality, if it's good enough for Eddie, it's good enough for anyone watching this.

Well satinless efects the resonance of the strings and ultimately has an effect on its over all tone.Alot of people dont like it,and when they were first becoming polular and people were having their necks refretted with stainless fretwire the reviews were bad.But its all a matter of taste.This is a collectors guitar,other than that there are many guitars just as good,but more versatile than this for alot less money.

Budget has nothing to do with it. I've seen guitars worth no more than a few hundred dollars sound inhuman. I've also seen guitars worth thousands sound like something you'd get out of a cereal box. My current guitar is a washburn WG-580, which is discontinued. It's about 14 years old, and If someone offered a trade between my guitar and this one, I'd do nothing but laugh, before sending him on his way so I could continue playing.

Btw, you've probably looked up the price of a WG-580 nowadays. I can tell you 2 things. One, I bought my guitar for less than half of the price of this guitar at the time this video went up. Two, my Washburn is currently worth more than the retail price of the wolfgang stated in this video, and not by a little bit. I think the Ernie Ball EVH and the Peavey Wolfgang are both top notch guitars. I can't say anything bad about either one. I bought the Peavey because it sounded a little thicker than the EB I compared it to (it weighs a bit more, and I like that:).
I know Neil Zaza has played both and the one he always goes back to is his original red EB. Both are killer guitars MADE IN USA!!!

If a guitar sounds and plays very similarly to another, that should provide all the 'science' necessary to base an evaluation of its performance.
Also, something being worth its cost is subjective in many cases, hence the opinions.

Guy,making claims of your amazing talent is nothing but claims.I own a Jem 90th Ham,2200.00,more than its worth.I also own a Jem 10th 5000.00 worth every penny to me.I also have a Jem YTK DNA 5600.00 used,paid way more than the guitar is worth.Same with my 20th,5g and way to much for bells and whistles.The only point im trying to make is that this like them is overpriced for what it is a name.And every other review on this axe consensus is its way to much,but if your a collector it is.End of it

The Fender Frankenstrat wis worth over 5g,is the guitar worth that of cours not.But to a collector it may be.This guitar is not a special addition anything,and if you look at the reviews from Die Hard wolfgang fans most say its overpriced,look at the comments there is half a dozen reviews of this guitar that all say the same thing.But you come on here calling people names,cursing in every comment to validate what is not true.If it's worth it to you great,but most guitarists feel it is not.

Then why did EVH use his IBANEZ to record tracks on 3 albums?Vai,Satch,Gilbert,Gambale,Shawn Lane all like their Ibanez guitars.And I happen to like a few more than Ibanez,like EB,Suhr,Fender but anyway EVH would be the first to disagree with you.

Now that I will agree with.Since 03 Ibanez products have went downhill,any Ibanez collector will tell you that.But every Ibanez Enthusiast will tell you that 80's and 90's were the best Ibanez guitars they ever made.I wont buy a post 03 model of anything Ibanez makes other than a collectable.But it doesnt change the fact that the new wolfgang is overpriced,clearly not to you but to most it is,read the comments.

@petiethepitt well as we both know it will come down in price, and they will start putting shitting parts on it as they always do. Eddie had it made so that the wood will age better as it gets older, and the steel is all made from the same metal in medical tools. I love that there is final a Les paul Fender Hybrid.

@petiethepitt You know you actually do sound pretty cool I must admit. On a personal note, I really love the thick body of the EVH WG. If it was a car, it would be a Shelby Cobra. I think I was getting uptight cause this EVH WG was one of the best guitars out I've seen in ages, and I have researched it a lot. They really did put a lot into it. Hey I don't like the price, but I am sure it'll come down.

I've played this guitar at a local music store. I am a normal sized guy and immediately noticed it's small compact and comfortable...Has great neck action and the pick ups are very quiet...
Not traditionally hissing like my custom made Kramer with the brown sound pick up..
I like the guitar but I think this guitar is over priced...I played it and walked away.
Not many guitars justify this price except for Gibson or a PRS.

I agree that this is way overpriced but Gibson and PRS are just as guilty of being overpriced names.Guitars in this price range that are worth more than just the name they sport IMO are Suhr,Vigier,Breedlove,,,,,PRS and Gibson have nothing on them or many other manufacturers.Just paying for the name.But whatever keeps you playing is all that really matters I guess.

Most PRS aren't worth their price...Value for me.
I played a used Parker and I am still kicking myself in the ass for not buying it on site ($150.00 used). Feel/sound 5 stars.
PRS are chunky and remind me of a Gibson but chunkier...
My favorite guitar to play and I own is a Gibson Les Paul with open humbuckers.
I learned how to play on it.
My Godin and Kramer are two different animals but both are keepers.
If this guitar was under $700.00 I would buy it...It's not so I don't own it.

I hear ya man.I like the tone Gibson's have but was brought up playing Fenders and Ibanez and just cant get used to a Gibson neck or heavy bodies.
If I were going to look for a wolfgang I would just buy the original and best IMO,Ernie Ball,but being an Ibanez guy if I spend over 2g on a guitar it has to be somewhat familiar thats where Suhr is my top pick for rediculously priced guitars,lol.

It's hard to justify 3g+ for a guitar but at least with John Suhr guitars no 2 of any model are exactly the same.And the attention to detail is second to none.I only own 2 modern 24's,but have played a few classic t's and archtop's and everyone I have ever played has been amazing sounding and playing.I look foward to adding a few more Suhr guitars to my collection.

There are plenty of companies that sell bodies and necks! The hardest part is soldering the pickups in and if you don't know how to - the setup can be a pain . But you can spend about $80 to have a pro setup done or just learn how.
Checkout Warmoth(body & necks) Reranch(paint) and Stewmac(everything else)
I built my first when I was 17 and I haven't bought a guitar with a name on the headstock since... Good luck!!!

it's amazing, but true, that most Artist guitars (far lesser artists) have equal to far greater price points, this is still $800-1000 overpriced, so Fender can suck on that, see how many they sell for $3k...there are very few guitars on the market that are worth the outrageous sums that are charged, Gibson being the main culprit in the price-gouging bizness...what Les Paul is worth $3000-10,000, unless it was made by Les Paul himself...and had that black box included...

I say it's a deal at $2K, fair dink-um, how much did Fender have to pay EVH to spend a year developing a guitar for him ? a thousand on each model sold, plus God know what to use his name...since when has EVH ever mentioned Fender ? other than using their Strat bodies to K-Bal (cannibalize)...

Yeah I read the interview about building this guitar and in the end he said he wanted it to be for everyone, so I looked it up on line. 3000 bucks is not for everyone. Just because you are an enthusiast doesn't mean you can throw around money.

Dont know why you got thumbs down for that because your right.Peavey was the second.Ernie Ball was the original designers for Ed's wolfgang not peavey.And the best IMO,Ernie Ball makes a much better product.Just my opinion though,whatever works for you and keeps you playing is all that really matters.Brand names have very little to do with that.
