  • I played Hope Cladwell in my school's production of Urinetown :) It made me laugh to see her tied up because I remember being tied to a chair for almost the whole 2nd act. That was fun...

  • haha xD Welcome to urinetown...the musical!

  • The fact that this song is always a top search when you look up "Tony Awards" makes me extremely happy :D

  • And why hasn't there been a movie adaptation of this musical yet?

  • He is like Jack Black plus Michael J Foxx...

  • This musical it's complete GENIUS.

  • i play a concert after this play at my highschool lol it was difficult to tune when i was listening to "its a privilage to pee" song

  • I've seen theatre classes at universities do better versions

  • 7 people need to be sent to Urinetown

  • fortefinale version is better

  • 6 people are mad because Hunter doesn't want to marry them

  • Both the Fosters have the same sense of humor. It's great!

  • Okay, our Little Sally is a million times better than this one lol

  • @phantomofopera91 That's a cool story bro

  • Foster's quite good-looking. Is it just me, or does he look something like a cross between Jason Bateman and Neil Patrick Harris?

  • @IVdeMilo that is the perfect description!

  • Six people read the dislike button upside down.

  • i love this show and i love hunter foster :)

  • He is so much better live!

  • How can you dislike this?

  • urinetown is funking hilarious

  • LOVE this show!

  • was this the same year sutton won for thoroughly modern millie?

  • In dance class we dance to this song. Its so fun. :D

  • How awesome would it be if morgan freeman played lockstock, J/K!

  • Damn, this musical has a narrator. Damn. Looks like I might have to audition for a local production.:( Damn!

  • the singer looks like a skinny Jack Black

  • @900068032 Only he's better.

  • This musical is AWESOME!! haha but I have to say that I think that the Dutch version is a little bit better.. just a little bit

    sorry :$

  • This is kick ass!!! What year was this?

  • god i love this show.... :)

  • i could watch this forever. and little sally seems to be the best dancer!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. This and Snuff That Girl are my favorites.

  • 6 people like exposition.

  • This show makes my life complete.

  • the dutch version is better i think just because we have a better cop and little girl just watch:P I've been there i was really fantastic:) with Susan Seegers as little girl , Rene van Kooten as cop and Jamai Loman as Bobby Gold

  • .,hohoho... i love this show...

  • Wow, the parents of Sutton Foster and Hunter Foster must have done something great to their kids to have BOTH of them be Broadway stars....

  • @stephencassista Eat your green vegetables :D

  • @stephencassista they are called stage parents and they are kinds crazy.

  • Í've been to the dutch version of this musical and it was AWESOME!!! Especially Jamai Loman!!!

  • I'm looking for the sheet music of the Broadway recording version that Hunter Foster sang. I have the original score but many or the embellishments are quite different. Does anyone here know where I could find it?

  • wasn't that guy seymore in the revival of little shop of horrors??

  • @lifeissweetified yes, yes he was

  • my theater group might do urinetown this summer... i really hope we do!

  • lol my high school did this, then i moved, and my new school is doing it. first time i was lockstock, AND I PLAN TO TAKE IT AGAIN! MUAHAHA. cause... the other two leads are tenors and im a baritone...

  • wats with the slight harmonics on the last note? eep

  • Run freedom run...in chairs?

  • @Jessicax3lyonnss i'm pretty sure that's how it was done when i saw it... the humor is that it's mocking other shows as well as the fact that hope, who is gagged and tied up, is dancing in the cair she is tied to.

  • i love little sally's facial expression as she says "exposition".

  • THIS IS GREAT!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!

  • I saw the final Preview of this show...Loved it, bought the T-shirt..I really did. Anyone know what else he has done...His sister won a Tony for TMM..is this another Patti/Robert LuPone thing????

  • @TheSpencer1960 He also played Seymour in the Little Shop revival, where he was equally excellent!

  • At 3:51, Mr Foster looks like even he's surprised at how much noise is coming out his mouth :O

  • It's really the first time I like the dutch version more. The singer i meen. I don't know this guy but I don't really like his voice. But I do most say that the ending was funny!!

Look at musical awards urinetown jamai. Have fun :)

(PS I don't mean any harm to the fans of hunter cuz I really don't know him).

  • it's amazing how much sutton and hunter sound alike

  • @bwaystar123

wait are they sibling or something

  • @MissAlainey1991 Indeed! They are!

  • @MissAlainey1991 yes it is his sister she won the tony for this season I have no idea why Hunter Wasn't

  • I just saw this at my school XD, personally I like the way my school did it, Bobby took Little Becky Two Shoes' brace and used it to empathize the freedom and she fell lol

  • My school did this a few years back and I was on stage crew. It was amazing, I must have saw it 40 times with all the practices, but it was still difficult not to laugh.

  • this guy at my school did an interpretation to this and it was all like "Bobby Strong" favorite line

  • i completely and whole-heartedly LOVEE this musical!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SingerChick4Life ahaha yeah, especially since he (she?) used to be a girl... xD

  • I love this show! My favorite part of the song is the a Capella section of the chorus

  • i just got cast as Hope in this! :D

the one thing i'm genuinely disappointed about is the fact that i will be tied to a chair during this song. haha

  • @broadwaybound246 hahahahahahah and i got hotbladesharry and old man strong. do i know you? xD

  • Hunter sounds like he could be a good country singer!

  • Ooh this play was put on at my local theatre! It was fantastic!

  • meekakitty sent me here. OwO

  • Hunter I hope I do as well as you did!

  • Jeff McCarthy!!! He just did a workshop at our school! He's so great

  • just got confirmation that my school is doing it, soo exited that i am one of the best male singers in my school ao i have a good chance at getting a good part

  • LUCKY!! Our school is doing Sweeny Todd......I wish it was Urinetown.

  • Crazy person! Sweeney Todd is The Show Of Shows!

But Urinetown is pretty darn fantastic too.

  • Do you by any chance go to Bishop O'Dowd high school?

  • no you don't. its a musical where everyone needs to have a lot of energy and be super talented or else it sucks. ours is gonna suck.

  • @Ninjagrl5432 You get to do SWEENEY freakin TODD?! How can you complain about that? Our school district's too censored.

  • Best Tony preview show everrr.

  • I loooooooove this musical =D

  • @ David88441 you can see the gag very clearly @ 1:49

  • This is such a good play we did it at my school i played Bobby strong

  • My school just announced this as the spring musical. I'm so freaking excited!

  • r u frm i.s 227??

  • yeah i am from 227

  • yes!

  • why was the woman in the purple dress still just sittin in her chair?

  • @david88441 she was a hostage taken by the citizens, AKA Hope AKA Cladwell Daughter.

  • @David 88441 This number follows the song "snuff the girl" in which the citizens atempt to kill Hope Cladwell. She doesn't get up or move becaue she is bound and gagged. Look closely you'll see :)

  • @david88441 She is a Hope Cladwell and she is there captive, atm anywho

  • that is hope. in the show she has been kidnapped by the poor, who is singing, and that is why she is tied up.

  • Hunter and Sutton have the same nose. :)

  • my high school is doing this :D I can't wait!

  • Hunter Foster is the best !!!!!

  • i love hunter foster. he's adorable

  • my school is currently doing this show. i saw it last night. it was broadway worthy. no joke. blew me away. i officially love this musical now.

  • That's such a delicious note.

  • I sat for like five hours in barnes and noble and read the script. It was amazing. I freaking love this show. Now to just get the cast album. :P

  • I love this.

I did this for Broadway Memories this year and it was amazing. :)

  • @angelalalovee. I'm so jealous! I miss doing musicals in high school. I really wanted to do this musical so much.

  • this is awesome. am i hearing a background track that's helping him with that final note?...perhaps his voice, previously recorded or something?

  • I was thinking that. It may have been there as a backup in case his voice packed up, but he hits it well.

  • Yeah there is... A shame really, he hit it perfectly

  • I did this show in high school!

IT'S AMAZING! EVERYONE SHOULD DO IT! TELL YOUR DRAMA TEACHER!

because seriously, no one has a sucky part. being a chorus member is just as fun as being a lead! everyone has a lot of stage time. I played the pregnant lady! It was so funny dancing with a huge fake belly!

my favorite experience in theatre by far!

  • I did as well! Awesome musical to do! So much fun and hard work, the performances rocked!

And you're aboslutely right! I was poor person number 13 or something

    But it was so fun!

    <3

  • hey, do you remember if there was a guitar part in your pit? I play guitar in our jazz band and I can sight read and all that stuff and every year I have want to play in the pit but there is never a part! It sounded like there was at some parts here, but you never know...

  • I'm interested in this musical now. Gotta find someplace to watch it.

  • Who is playing Hope.

  • The dutch version is way better!

    Our little Sally rocks

  • I wish i had that voice. that would be awesome. My school is doing this and i have no idea who is gonna be able to pull off bobby strong

  • Same situation here LOL.

  • I wish my school would do something like this... We did Oklahoma last year, I was Will Parker. We're doing Little Women this year.

  • Jeff McCarthy is amazing!

  • i love this :DD

    Hunter Foster is amazinggg

  • man there's gotta be something magical in the foster's water lol

  • I second this.

  • I can't believe Hunter Foster didn't get a Tony nod... I do think it's neat tho that he and his sister had their starmaking musicals compete in the same year...

  • he didn't get the nod this show, but when he was in the revival of Little Shop of Horrors (though not really a revival), he played Seymour and was nominated for best leading actor... that was the year it went to Hugh Jackman...

  • I have to know- who plays the Cop?

  • The bobby isn't as hot as the one I saw.

  • Don't be mad at me. I have a crush on the guy who played bobby.

  • "But the title's still awful..."

    LOL!!!

  • @SubzeroRay yes little sally! yes it is!

  • we did this musical for our musical theater camp. i played one of the poor people and a cop! it was awesome! we just had our performances this weekend.

  • then i envy you beyond measure lol. im gagging to see this musical.

  • This is awesome.,

Yeah Jamai is very good., I love him! but this is also very good.,--

  • who does hunter foster play?

  • are you serious lol

  • Bobby Strong

  • bobby strong

  • Hope Cladwell. she was only shown in this; she didn't sing.

  • bobby strong

  • I think Jamai Loman (dutch musical star) did this song better!!!

  • in holland they did exactly the same at MusicalAwardGala . Every joke is similar

  • love this musical so much

  • Hunter does not look a day over 25 honestly...

  • the fosters are so talented!

  • did both fosters win a Tony? If so what years?

  • look at de dutch version of this song:

    sta op en loop urinetown!!

  • Is this the only clip of the broadway cast on youtube?

  • who plays sally and the cop? they look familar

  • Is he Sutton Foster's older brother?

  • Yes.

  • Yeah. :)

  • Just for clarification, this guy is Sutton Foster's older brother, right?

  • I could watch this over and over, the cast is so good. Hunter Foster is really good, great facial expressions and his voice is great!

  • i didnt know that was suttons brother!

  • Oh god I love Hunter

  • I saw this play done at Gordon College by our own cast, and surprisingly, it was way better than the Broadway version.

  • Oh, shut up.

  • Hunter Foster is excellent, but it's too bad he can't nail the high C around 3:17. There are some colleges who are absolutely phenomenal at that part.

    P.S.

The ending A is very nice, though :)

  • If you're talking about the C at 3:22 at the climax of that line, I think he handles it just fine... It's the Eb at 3:35 that is kinda wacked out, but it's kinda part of the character :D

And the last note is an Ab... still gorgeous though!!

  • I have to agree with you. I know from singing Close Every Door from Joseph that with the higher notes that are more difficult for me to hit, I can let the emotion come out and it's more of the character. Just they way it works out sometime. I still don't know what Urinetown is about though. My choir director informed that's it's satire but that's about all I know. Still love this song though!

  • It's about a town where there is such an intense drought that no one can afford their own toilets, so they have to use oublic toilets which they pay for... and if anyone pees in the street or, essentially, for free, they get sent to urinetown, and there is a revolution against the Urine Good Company who controls the amenities... I don't think I should tell you more though in case I spoil it for people reading this... hope that cleared up a few things.

  • This show is just incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Lyrics are kind of confusing but I really like that guys voice!

  • Well, right before this the people were making fun of Bobby for screaming at them to run when they were fighting before, so he's kinda distracting them and defending himself by saying it was like a cry for freedom... yeah if that makes any sense

  • i love how hope is all tied up and still doing the dance moves :D

  • I've never seen this show before but does this song make sense?

    Run, freedom, run?

  • I wish the recording was as good as this! Same people, but it doesn't have the "oomph" it has here. Plus, Hunter doesn't hold the falsetto out like he does at 3:35, and he doesn't make them whisper like he does at 2:40. I LOVE him though!!!
