  • Back in Europe I used to fish using Mullein. I put a bunch of that plant in Jute bag and mush it in the creek just before a deep water making a foam. It will act on the way that will paralyze fish making it float bellies up ready to collect it.

Now, I know that a tea made out of Mullein has a medicinal properties but also I know that will drug you down acting stronger then kalamath weed. My question is how do you feel after drinking it?.. I have never tried a such tea.

  • @nedeljkomostar The only noticable effect from the tea I get is a soothing and clearing of my throat and cough. That's interesting about the fish, thanks

  • @MiWilderness Do you use just picked up leaves or you dry them and then make a tea? And how much you put it per cup?

  • @nedeljkomostar I use both dried and fresh. For fresh I don't really measure, maybe 2 or 3 small to medium sized leaves per 20 ounces of water. For dry I use a tea bag sized amount per cup. I have been warned that the hairs are irritating to the throat and it should be filtered, so, I filter it through a coffee filter before drinking.

  • @MiWilderness Thank you for a quick reply.

  • @nedeljkomostar It has an sedative effect, makes you drop off to sleep.. It is soooo great.. The Great Mullein. I love it.

  • I've had a lot of success with two little tricks. One is adding a few grains of sand to the fireboard in the drill hole. And the second is actually creating a reverse wrap twisted string, out of shoe lace or 550 cord. The twists create a better grip on the spindle. Thanks for the vid!

  • @outdoorsurvivaltv I didn't see your message until now, thanks for the tips. I put an extra twist on my natural cordage for the bowdrill and it helps a lot with slippage. That was a tip I got from John and Geri McPherson's book "The Ultimate Suyrvival Guide".

  • Good job

  • @ChadHClifford Thanks!

  • Great video. I saw some one make a working hand drill out of mullein, but I've yet to be able to do it. Watching you walk through the woods there is making me home sick. Thanks so much for sharing this.

  • @BoskageSage Thanks! I've got lots of smoke with the hand drill using them, but no fire yet! I've tried them in the bowdrill, but they collapse under pressure and don't fit well into my bearing block.

  • How do you use it for insulation.

  • @Survivemich Take the dry stalks, strip the leaves, and layer them parralel to each other 3 to 6" deep. They make a nice long flat hard bed. It's best to place something softer on top. I used them as a bed and seat in my Quinzee. They are hollow pith inside and trap air to insulate. The only reason I say strip the dead leaves is they crumble into dust in winter and make a mess of things. The dust will irritate your eyes, sinuses and possibly skin.

  • great vid, seen some of that before and that is was mullein, now I know for sure

  • @tuffnutt34 Thanks man. I've heard there's another plant that looks similar in the rosette stage, but have yet to find it. I feel it's a fairly safe plant as long as you know what to look for. It's unmistakable IMO.

  • Great video. Glad i subscribed :)

  • @TryingTBHumble Thanks!

  • Thanks the leaves for toilet paper is a good idea.
