What I'm more impressed with is that the guy who fell down knew exactly where to go from his stumble and made sure not to run into anyone, especially in drill that busy.
As for why they ended up 4th, that was just an extremely competitive year at the top. I remember the top 5 being within 1 point of each other, and the band that did win (Lawrence Central) didn't win any caption awards and only won by .05 (still love that show, though). Any of the top 5 could've been the champion that night.
2003 alumnus here. i loved that show. i remember after wards in the parking lot there were so many emotions Kristin and Steve were the best drum majors ever. lover their salute.
as a parent of band kids - watching a lot of competitions, the domed stadiums are just NOT the best place for acoustics...reverb can mess up the center of the beat as my son terms it... but outdoors, where acoustics are best, the weather and if natural grass is mud - that can ruin a show as well. I guess a bowl open-air stadium with turf is best. Then only rain or intense heat can kill a show. Remember State 2002? Awful weather, field (mud) rain, cold. Couldn't see my kids' hard work...
I love hearing the sound bounce back from the dome. Some bands will specifically design their music package to work well in a domed environment, and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy was designed with acoustics in mind due to the fact that they have so many marching competitions there.
I think their colorguard hurt them a bit. They weren't bad, but the work just wasn't interesting enough. You can pretty much watch the entire show and never notice the colorguard. And the fact that they had never been to GN before played a bit of a political part as well IMO.
this show is just full of awesome. i swear i've rewound and watched the end a million times now. it still cracks me up to see the directors near the front jumping and pumping their fists and getting excited.

Awesome show, but i feel like the uniforms blend into the field a little too much at times. I don't know maybe thats just me.

I'm sure the show was no less than awesome. I just wish I could hear more winds. Too much percussion!
Still liked it though.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE, I agree with you.
They made a huge comeback though with 2007 TRANSCENDents, no denying that.

Yes, very true.

That had nothing to do with why they got 4th. In my opinion their score should have been boosted because they made such an awesome recovery.

that is actually one of the most amazing recoveries I have ever seen...
