I read that this was better than Cybernator, but the physics seem really floaty and that shooting sound makes me want to punch babies. I liked Cybernator because it felt really rugged and the suits felt heavy playing them.

@nubbinnoob THe truth here: This is one of the best Mecha Games yet to be made, even to todays standars,none combines all its aspects so well as this game, sure there are better looking and some other great games we can start namis a bunch, but have you seen one so complete that you can bail off of your Mech and steal another one, and that you can actually shoot while your not in the mech? This game is a classic and a rol model for designers

As a child of the coin-op golden age, and a HUUUUUGE Robotech fan growing up in the 80's, I naturally wanted a game version. This game, along with Dangar and Raiden, were the closest things that ever came to it until Robotech BattleCry FINALLY came out, nearly 20 years after cancellation of the Robotech Saga.

Armored Core came to the PSX much, much later. The mech designers of Armored Core did work on both SNES front Missions, as well as Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken. this one, Im not sure... either way, This has nothing to do with Armored Core, it's an original IP by Lucasarts.

Youtube doesn't like it when someone posts links, but if you're willing to exercise your google-fu, there is an (amazingly done) English patch for the Front Mission: Gun Hazard ROM. These are both great games, but Gun Hazard allows extreme levels of mech customization through the use of shops, and your character gains levels and unlocks new abilities. Other than that, and mild setting differences (although Gun Hazard is still about mechs), the games are very very similar.

I have this game on rom, great mech game. It was kinda short, but the concept was great. Several different mechs you can pilot, several power ups, different missions, several original funcions for each mech. Only flaw was it was too short, and the last missions were HELL (think super ghouls and goblins).

Actually yes, this do have an connection to both Leynos and Valken. This game is also known as Assault Suits Gideon.

That's actually not true; Assault Suits Gideon is an urban myth. Metal Warriors was developed from the ground up by the same LucasArts team that made Zombies Ate My Neighbors and never saw a release in Europe or Japan. The only official Assault Suit games are Leynos (MD), Valken (SFC/PS2), Leynos 2 (SAT), and Valken 2 (PS1). Oddly enough, Valken 2 is a tactical RPG akin to Front Mission, and apparently is a more in-depth remake of Leynos' story, since the first Valken was a prequel.

awesome gameplay , too bad it never got a sequel. or a port to a newer system at the very least. assault suit valken (cybernator) ,target earth, and Front mission gun hazard. are also excellent games with similar gameplay, but only metal warriors offered a rich variety of robots to break havoc.

Yeah, in many circles this was considered a sequel to Cybernator. Audio was dumbed down considerably in this one to allow data space for the numerous machines' animation sprites. My only complaint was that at weapon maxout, your gun fires giant, deadly, orange marshmallows.
