Man if I were to engine swap a truck I wouldn't put a cummins in it, I'd go for a 2 stroke Detroit diesel!! (cummins would be my second choice) but fucking nice truck man
@SupportOurTroops21 what year and size cuz you gotta get new motor mounts, all the turbo cooling parts transmission or an adaptor plate to allow for the original tranny but it takes a lot
I have a 1996 Chevy Tahoe 2 door Sport just sitting in my Garage with 194,000 miles, but not a spec of rust since it has been garaged since new. Gotta figure out how to make a Chummins out of it without breaking the bank! Since I bought the F-350 the Tahoe is kinda of irrelevant! It needs a new lease on life! LOL!
Not all 6.0s are bad ya know my dad had one and he blocked off the egr and put a big afe air filter and 5 inch exhaust and it ran circles around any 7.3 or most cummins he ever had. Although he usually had it programed with his bully dog triple dog. Of course now he is doing the same thing here he has a restored 78 that he is putting a 12 valve in.
the 6.7 powerstroke is NOT an international engine!! most of the engine was designed by ford. i dont expect them the redesign the internal diesel combustion engine or anyhting but, for the most part, the did design the motor. more than just some electronics. THE TURBO IS IN THE VALLEY!! just an example. i dont know it all, i dont pretend to i have more than a well based idea. what i dont really like is some jackass telling ME to get my facts straight. take your own advice talk to a FORD mechanic
ohh yea? i heard the v10's were shit, i dont really know. i havent driven one or had to replace anything on one either. im not really sure when they started with the triton, im gonna say somwhere around 98? 99? maybe. but that new diesel, the 6.7 in your F350 is designed by ford and ford alone. no more international. they helped with the 6.4 twin turbo but that was the last one. haha they had an issue with the stock spark plugs on the 5.4 triton.
@MrTpengineer its cummins. ford will either put a cummins in or instead they can put a cat c-5 or c-7, i forget which one it was. ohh and ford doesnt make their engines, or atleast they didnt, as of 2010/11 they biuld their own motors, diesel and gas. you know? like dodge uses cummins and magnum, chevy uses duramax and vortex. well ford uses triton and the powerstroke(best enigne line of all time!!) only difference is that ford designs and manufacturs both of them.
@canadiandieselcowboy My dad's v10 triton outlated the recall for about 6 years now lol, back in 04 they were recalled because of the spark plugs blowing out, my dad's finally did it December of 2010. He had it and it's coil replaced and is running fine now. It has half the tourque of our new F-350 Cabela's edition with the 6.7 and that thing definatly isn't weak like people say it is.
@canadiandieselcowboy Wrong, the power stroke is an International engine. They may be built in a Ford owned plant, but they are Barn Yard Buick through and through! Get your facts straight.
@gwhand39 wtf are you talking about buddy. i said international makes engines for FORD! the powerstroke is what they called the engines, they were biult by INTERNATIONAL. they starded with the 6.9 idi in 1983ish and came out with the 7.3 IDI in 1987 and then in 1994.5 they made the first gen 7.3Lpowerstroke. with me so far?? the biult the 7.3, 6.0, & the 6.4L powerstroke in 2008. in 2010 the ford trucks still came with the 6.4L powerstroke, biuld & designed by international.
@canadiandieselcowboy then in 2010 ford and international had a fall through( ie. not friends anymore!!) in 2010 was the last year of the 6.4Lpowerstroke. now(now being 2011!!) ford has the 6.7L powerstroke aka scorpion. the new 6.7L powerstroke is NOT AT ALL associated with international in anyway WHAT SO EVER!! ford biulds the scorpion, they also designed the 6.7 all by them selves. international is no longer in the picture. so before bitching to someone about facts, do a little fuckin resarch
@canadiandieselcowboy ......I am looking to get a used diesel pickup and I spent an hour talking to the manager at my local Ford Dealer on the same subject. Here is the bottom line fellows! The new 2011 6.7 and the 2000-early 2003 7.3 are both the bomb! The 2003.5-2005 6.0 is a headache. The 2006 -2007 6.0 is still a headache, but a smaller one. The 2008-2010 6.4 liter will pull down a house, but gets terrible MPG. That's all I know!
@jerseypaul2007 ya, the only thins that ild say is bad imo is that the scorpion(6.7 powerstroke) has that extra shit mixed wiht the fuel, for enviromentla concerns i suppose. that first 6.0 is bad for injectors, that i know. some people get lucky never have problems. i LOVE the 7.3 psd!! ive got a '97 f350 crew cab with a 2001 powerstroke and a manual. best engine & body style EVER. i heard that the 6.4 had some turbo issues, it could have been the driver was the issue, i duno
@canadiandieselcowboy ....For some reason the whole concept of added UREA bothers me, but that is the only way they could meet emissions. When the Ford dealer flat out tells me to stay away from the 6.0 and 6.4 Diesels and they sell them used on their lot that is something to take seriously. I am fine with having to pay top dollar for a low mile used 7.3. At least I know that the odds of having a problem are smaller. Thanks, Paul
@jerseypaul2007 if you want a badass powerstroke buy a 6.4, pull all the emissions crap off of it, put an intake, exhaust and a nice sct tune from someone and there ya go. for roughly $1500 you have a nice mpg and plenty of power.
@pacmanclem thats your opion. I have seen plenty of Powerstrokes, Cummins and Duramaxs that can hold their own. I have an 03 6.0 that does a great job at holding its own. No motor is junk if you know what your doing when you build them.
@canadiandieselcowboy Well let's get something straight. Ford did not design the entire 6.7L engine. It is an International engine under some of Ford's electronics. The point I was getting at is everyone who knows nothing about diesels, especially most backyard " mechanics" ( dare I call you a mechanic?) just think because they own a diesel P/U they know it all. Go down to your Ford dealer, or to an International dealer and look around and ask questions, then prepare to be enlightened!
@canadiandieselcowboy also why do all you wanna be truck drivers who own a one ton truck always have to use fowl language when you respond to a post? Is you vocabulary as limited as your knowledge of trucks?
@MrTpengineer Ford doesn't make "cummings", Cummins makes cummins. Yeah, they put cummins engines in the bigger f series, but they put them in internationals and other bigger trucks too.
@MrTpengineer First off it's Cummins not Cummings, don't believe me go to a real truck dealership, IE Peterbilt, KenWorth or even better a CUMMINS dealer. Second, Ford does not make Cummins, Cummins makes Cummins.
@montanachevy the only place he went wrong was the automatic. you got to have manual. i wouldn't wish an allison on my worst enemy. clutch pack burning pieces of shit.
There are kits out there to do this with an adaptor plate included. One shop in Montana even does this, puts in the Cummins in place of the powerstroke making big money.
@DrMcelroy I would LOVE! to see them remake them old trucks! I would also love to see Ford get the contract from cummins and start putting 24v's in their new trucks
BlackOutAngel1313... Cummins is world wide known as a company that builds engines for any and every application. They are NOT a Dodgw engine no matter how you look at it. Just as many cummins engines go into ford F-250 and UP trucks on a daily basis than dodge pickups.
MuhammadAlBooBoo... Nobody gave you a propper answer so i guess i will. Yes, cummins manufactures engines for ford all the way from F-250 to the big heavy duty trucks. Ford puts 4bt ISB Cummins engines in 250 and 350's from the factory down in South America... That was for all the folks who will try to say that i am wrong
I wish you tards would quit calling Ford trucks with a cummins conversion a "FUMMINS", it sounds stupid. Ford medium duty trucks have been using cummins engines for years and idiots don't call them FUMMINS. So what do you call a Cummins converted Dodge that had a gas engine a DUMMINS? Then a chevy would be a .....uhh...CUMMINS? See my point. Just call it a Cummins Converted Ford and all will sound ok. No more Fummins, ok dummins?
Thats a nice truck man..I like the cummins swap even tho im a die hard ford fan and love powerstrokes but its just something about cummins diesels that steal the show...Nice Neat lookin truck!!
Man, that cummins looks like it was meant to be there. I'm a chevy guy to the bone, but I'm looking at doing a cummins swap on my 1ton'd Suburban. I'd have to go with the NV4500 though, if money wasn't a thing, lol.
Your face makes dick for sense faggot. Someone already corrected me so you feel obligated to tell me again? its not like i took the correction like a bitch the first time. The main point of my comment in the first place is that they took a Cummins out of a dodge so in fact in still correct. Quit being a fucking truck Nazi the Internets not for you bra
its because of this video i put a 06 24 valve cummins with an 06 allison 6spd into my 78 ford bronco, i cut out the front half of the bronco frame and welded in the front half of a79 F250 frame , so now the truck has a leaf spring fornt end with a dana 60 axle and a dana 80 in the rear both with 3:73 gearing, iwanted to put a np204 , but could'nt so iput a nv271 , truck runs awesome, a heck of alot better than the 460 /C6 combo i had on before. your truck is awesome. GO CUMMINS!!!!!
Ford used the 460 in pickups from 1973 to 1997 vs 1977 to 1982 for the 351m/400. Usually poorer engine designs are only used for a few years. Also Ford used these 385 series engines in cars, motorhomes, boats, industrial power units, medium and heavy duty trucks and other commercial applications for decades. Ford didn't use the 400 in most of these applications for a reason. The 370/429/460 blocks are far more robust and can handle big power levels and can easily be built to 557 cid for big power
Whatever, if it makes you happy. My 400 can kick the 460 I had all over the place in durability and horsepower. It isn't built. The 460 is a gas guzzleing slug. The 335 series for the most part replaced the FE's and were always "smmog" engines built with crappy flowing heads and two barrle carburators. The 529/460 (385?) series were built for a different market segment. Intot he 80's with the trend towards smaller lighter cars there was no need for the 335 and it was dropped.
beauty!! what kind of mods did you have to do to fit that 12 valve? im gonna do the same thing. but in to a 78 3/4 ton. did you have to change the fire wall at all??
Smart move & nice clean swap.Sorry but cummins much better & more reliable than jokestroke!!! I'd rather be cummin than strokin anyday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not always buddy..my 96 psd has over 400k miles on her 4in lift. banks quickspool, intake, 6gun, injectors and 5in stacks....stock everything else.with a 5spd....never had to replace anything and for a year now sincei bought it shes been pulling a 35 foot gooseneck with a d4/5 dozer all over the place 75 on the interstate...no problem...rough terrain...no problem...lots of shiftin with big load..no tranny problems!!strong strong trucks..not dissing cummins though, their damn good...MOTORS!!
yes for still produces trucks and buses with cummins engines in them they actually produced trucks and buses with them long before dodge put it in there trucks. tree service trucks (ie; davey, aspen, lewis trucks f800 - and even current day f650 and bigger can only get cummins or cat diesel) dodge doesnt own cummins just like dana / spicer axles every manufacture used dana / spicer
@RockinSPerformance MuhammadAlBooBoo probably was referring to the fact that Cummins is technically world wide known as Dodge's Diesel engine, just like Ford's Powerstroke, and GM's Duramax... Me, myself consider Cummins a Dodge engine...
@RockinSPerformance I thing he was talking about the cummins. Little does he know that dodges are Built Tough with Cummins stuff! haha Nice job on the swap. I am about to do the same on my '72 F-250 Highboy. I cannot wait. Did you follow the "Ford cummins Manual or just use common sense?! My cousin is certified with the cummins, he said its pretty straight froward.
@MuhammadAlBooBoo - You must be referring to Dodge stuff in the Cummins which in fact Dodge didn't produce the Cummins so your comment makes dick for sense... Build Ford tough with Cummins would be more accurate.. Thanks for trying though.
how hard was the swap? and which transmission and transfer case did u use? I have the 12V and I'm wanting to drop it into this '75 f250 highboy, was curious of how hard it was.
That's a very nice truck. My dad loves the '79 Fords and the 5.9L Cummins motor. I hope I can do a swap like this for him one day and give the truck to him as a present.
dude i want to do this so bad to my truck what all did you do to get it in the 13's?and what happened to your brake booster are you running manual brakes?
Brake booster is there, Its just not a Vacuume Booster its HydroBoost.
To get into 13s at that time it was DDPstageIV injectors and a HTB2 Turbo. Its alot quicker now with Industrial Injection Dragon Flow Pump and injectors with HTB2 over an S480 Compound Turbos.

its because of this video i put a 06 24 valve cummins with an 06 allison 6spd into my 78 ford bronco, i cut out the front half of the bronco frame and welded in the front half of a79 F250 frame , so now the truck has a leaf spring fornt end with a dana 60 axle and a dana 80 in the rear both with 3:73 gearing, iwanted to put a np204 , but could'nt so iput a nv271 , truck runs awesome, a heck of alot better than the 460 /C6 combo i had on before. your truck is awesome. GO CUMMINS!!!!!

i like everything but the stack location, I'd put them in the corners not the center, the center looks gay
rasnake123456789 2 years ago
460s are the best engine for these trucks. Better yet a 514/521 cid version.
73to79ford 2 years ago
they're not the best, just the biggest
kiteLe06 2 years ago
What is so great about a 460? I'd take my 400 M anyday over my 460. Lots more reliable. You can't kill that 400.
For all out originality I will put a cranked DT-466 in mine.
kcald1843 2 years ago
Ford used the 460 in pickups from 1973 to 1997 vs 1977 to 1982 for the 351m/400. Usually poorer engine designs are only used for a few years. Also Ford used these 385 series engines in cars, motorhomes, boats, industrial power units, medium and heavy duty trucks and other commercial applications for decades. Ford didn't use the 400 in most of these applications for a reason. The 370/429/460 blocks are far more robust and can handle big power levels and can easily be built to 557 cid for big power
73to79ford 2 years ago
Whatever, if it makes you happy. My 400 can kick the 460 I had all over the place in durability and horsepower. It isn't built. The 460 is a gas guzzleing slug. The 335 series for the most part replaced the FE's and were always "smmog" engines built with crappy flowing heads and two barrle carburators. The 529/460 (385?) series were built for a different market segment. Intot he 80's with the trend towards smaller lighter cars there was no need for the 335 and it was dropped.

yes for still produces trucks and buses with cummins engines in them they actually produced trucks and buses with them long before dodge put it in there trucks. tree service trucks (ie; davey, aspen, lewis trucks f800 - and even current day f650 and bigger can only get cummins or cat diesel) dodge doesnt own cummins just like dana / spicer axles every manufacture used dana / spicer

cummins is a prety good engine
wilbertm94 2 years ago
@RockinSPerformance Cummins isnt made by Dodge, just used by them. Good call lol
Chrisman622 1 year ago
@RockinSPerformance MuhammadAlBooBoo probably was referring to the fact that Cummins is technically world wide known as Dodge's Diesel engine, just like Ford's Powerstroke, and GM's Duramax... Me, myself consider Cummins a Dodge engine...
BlackOutAngel1313 1 year ago
@RockinSPerformance I thing he was talking about the cummins. Little does he know that dodges are Built Tough with Cummins stuff! haha Nice job on the swap. I am about to do the same on my '72 F-250 Highboy. I cannot wait. Did you follow the "Ford cummins Manual or just use common sense?! My cousin is certified with the cummins, he said its pretty straight froward.

did ford ever produce a truck with a Cummins?
MuhammadAlBooBoo 2 years ago
no.....i dont know if you wanted a reply to that sorry.
jpitts1234 2 years ago
but they are trying too. They are trying to buy out the cummins contract from dodge.
cumminsispower 2 years ago
You can get a cummins diesel as well as the CAT in the 550's and up im pretty sure.
flipination 2 years ago
i think they did, back in the 60's mack used them, i'm not 100% sure, so don't hold me to it
AmericanBadAss414 2 years ago
It's true about the 550's, international can only go so far before a real diesel engine is necessary.
ImLivinLaughinLovin 2 years ago
dt466 is about as real as it gets lol
ssimon64 2 years ago
Ssimon64, the DT466 is a pretty durable motor, but none of the ones I've driven were very powerful. I'd rather have a Cummins.
AmericanThunder 2 years ago
yes they did and still do. check out the f -650's they come with your choice of cummins or cat diesels
dryice0002006 2 years ago
@MuhammadAlBooBoo - You must be referring to Dodge stuff in the Cummins which in fact Dodge didn't produce the Cummins so your comment makes dick for sense... Build Ford tough with Cummins would be more accurate.. Thanks for trying though.
mixwell1983 1 year ago
@MuhammadAlBooBoo cummins isnt built by dodge lol.
Hey im thinking of doing this swap in my 74 f-250 since im tired of like 8 mpg with my 460 what kind of mpg you gettin?
FordDude1991 1 year ago
@MuhammadAlBooBoo cummins isnt dodge lol. cummins is cummins.
FlyinRaptorJesus 1 year ago
the Cummins engine is not made through Dodge; Cummins is their own company. therefore, there is only Ford & Cummins in this video.
yuskjr 1 year ago
@MuhammadAlBooBoo dodge doesnt make cummins. dodge make the truck. cummins shakes the truck (:
xXFmxKingXx 1 year ago
@MuhammadAlBooBoo more like with cummins stuff. Dodge makes it. Cummins Shakes it
alpena7 1 year ago
@MuhammadAlBooBoo lol nice try, that diesel is all cummins. dodge doesn't own cummins, fool.

how hard was the swap? and which transmission and transfer case did u use? I have the 12V and I'm wanting to drop it into this '75 f250 highboy, was curious of how hard it was.
AFultz87 2 years ago
It has a Ford 4R100 Auto and Cant remember which T-case but its out of a 97 F350, I wan not too bad to do.

dude i want to do this so bad to my truck what all did you do to get it in the 13's?and what happened to your brake booster are you running manual brakes?
coolfixit 3 years ago
Brake booster is there, Its just not a Vacuume Booster its HydroBoost.
To get into 13s at that time it was DDPstageIV injectors and a HTB2 Turbo. Its alot quicker now with Industrial Injection Dragon Flow Pump and injectors with HTB2 over an S480 Compound Turbos.
