Their best is optical at this point (just like everyone else, if you're lucky), but they should have Hall Effect gamepads pretty soon, and then be prepaired to have your mind blown by the smoothness of Hall controllers. the problem for the usb controllers in pc is that you can NOT rename the action names...

in a quicktime event (to a game like prince of persia) try figuring out in a fraction of miliseconds wich button is HAMA BLACKFORCE v3.2 BUTTON 8

if you watch carefully on your left stick on Windows if you have a 360 controller(sry for the grammatic error, it's late) you can see that it actually doesn't trace all the way, it's not set to create a perfect circle with windows drivers, it almost gets there but not quite which makes it a pain to play game like Devil May Cry 4 when your character will ever so ofter walk however hard you press the analog stick for some directions.

360 controller isn't perfect in Windows either. Many games will not recognize the analog triggers as buttons and there is no option in the driver control panel to use them as digital buttons. You can use the XBCD driver instead but this makes the controller not work as an Xinput device. In addition won't work in 64 bit windows because of driver signing enforcement.

I use the Logitech Dual Action Gamepad, it looks very similar in design to the Dualshock 2 on the Playstation 2, and if there is a game that you want to use the dpad for you can press the "analog" button that turns off the analog sticks and will detect the dpad instead for playing 2d games

I would NOT recommend the 360 controller for PC if you plan to play any side scrolling or 2D games because the D-pad on the 360's gamepad is an ABOMINATION. Utterly terrible, I couldn't think of how you could make a D-pad worse.

Yet everyone seems to copy them!

PS3 has a great d-pad, proper classic layout works faultlessly and precisely. Overall a quality controller (get the snap-on concave triggers though) especially with the tilt feature but drivers are tricky.

i have logitech rumblepad 2 vibration feedback controler and its just awesome.... i had to decide btv the wired and the cordless version i decidet for the wired bcause... buy 2 AA bateries every week woud problably bankrupt me lol... but im very happy with that what i bought and its just great. Fully softweare support profiler included and works just awesome...I strongly recomend ;D

To be honest I think Nintendo have perfected the Ideal gaming controller.

The Gamecube and the Classic controller pro are the most comfortable controllers ever made, second would have to be the Dreamcast or Xbox 360.

The only problem with the Dualshock is that it doesn't give enough handle support.
