This amp is too good to be true. I own 2 JMD100 heads and I still can't believe how many awesome natural and rich sounds I can get of it. After trying lots of all valve amps, I never thought that the one I would love more, would have a digital preamp. Softube got an A+ with their Natural Harmonic Tecnology.
@MrDvirHamadbir youve never heard, a really good sounding guitar amp, much less used one, have you... and dont tell me "I own 10 plexis and my house is full of Tweed Fenders" because i KNOW your a Line 6 wannabe. You want to plug into an amp (why i dont know) and have 10 switches and knobs that say things like "1968 overdrive" or "brittish inavsion clean" or some crap. Buy a decent guitar and a Champion 600 or VJ.. Learn how to play and what an electric guitar sounds like. see if you like it.
@joja93x My previous comment was more snooty than it needed to be, and WTH, if you like the way this sounds then you have another option. I will make one last remark on this. The amp is over priced, and you could get the same results with one of the "virtual" amplifiers they make for PC's. This amp, like the sound of it or no, is a rather cheaply made Chinese toy. A gadget. Marshall has really Fallen low, and i hate to think whats coming When JM finally goes to amp heaven. god forbid
@PIlotrcm Your comment doesnt make much sense...So your saying that when you use pedals it completely takes the preamp tubes out of the equation. Thats complete bullshit! All of these players use ALL TUBE AMPLIFIERS! They dont use something that has digital preamps. Also alot of players get pedals that have something called TRUE BYPASS...You ever heard of it...When u have the effects off it doesnt color the tone on your amp. Also David Gilmour uses ALOT of analog pedals...nothing digital there
If this amp was bad, and didn't sound natural, like some of the people say on here...then artists like Paul Gilbert wouldn't play through them. Don't know about you guys but I think Gilbert's guitar sounds pretty good.
im a gigging musician and had a lot of marshalls amp, this amp sound as good as the other marshalls amp!, if it was written in the title instead of the jmd jcm you would say, wow killer tone best amp, and if they put in the title jmd new digital amo your saying ohh sound digital to me.
you can like it or dislike it, this is the true get over it, its perfect amp!
@MrDvirHamadbir Digital,Analog...It just needs to sound good, for 'most' people if they heard this without knowing what it was they would like it. People can be snobbish.
I bought the JMD 50watt head brought it home and plugged it into my 1960 4X12 cab then tried out all the pre set tones...
Not even close to the real thing...This is a beginer amp head and it's very cheaply made. The clean channels loose gain imediately noticable when you switch em. The gain channels are bad and the noise gate isn't nessasary in this amp.
Maybe over time Marshall might improve on this cheap type design but in the end I brought it back after using it for one weekend.
Would the combo sound good at low volume? i mean really low, i have a 4 month old baby at home. I want good heavy distortion from a combo i can use to gig with and use at home to practice with at low volume.........
The distortion sounded like it was recorded in a cement mixer. No warmth at all! Ugh! Not quite as shitty as a Line 6 Spider, but not far off of it, either. And the thrash bit had NO BALLS. You get a better tone for that out of a Vox AC30VR and at half the price with warmer cleans.
At the Marshall site under products and going to the JMD and then selecting the Theater option, there's a video call JMD performance. And this is what thrills me, it sounds great, nice cleans and nice punchy distortions with all the juice and stuff. I own one JMD, the combo version with 100watts but I cannot make it sound the way it sounds there or in this video. I want to take it back to the store and compare it, I'll bring my guitar and cables. Not happy with it at all for now
I have to say, this JMD 50amp sounds very solid state. Distortion sounds harsh like those transistor Peavey MOSFET amps I used to play as a child, only because that was all I could afford. Terrible solid state tone. If it's not all tube, the tone always sounds horrible. Now the all tube Marshall's always sound great.
With this amp you get only Marshall sounds, with Blackstar you can get also Fender and Mesa sounds and its all tube...I tried the 50W JMD combo and the Blackstar HT-40 and in my opinion Blackstar sounds sooooo much better and you don´t have to crank it like you have to do with the JMD to get a good sound
Hahahaha. Marshall should be ashamed to have their name on this amp. A great guitarist is doing the demo, and it still sounds like a mid grade amplifier, equivalent to the line6 spider heads with the tube power section. Never though I'd see the day that Marshall went digital for anything other than beginner amps like the MG series.
Ive played thru this before. It sounds descent but overall it lacks a little something. It doesn't breathe or isnt as dynamic as true tube. I guess its state of the art 21st century, but I prefer the simpler, more harmonic sounds.
@Zerottaja Oikeesti!! Älä osta!! Tää on digitaalipaskaa suurella todennäköisyydellä..
I watched every demo on the Marshall Amp website and damn, he is straight to the point and explains EVERYTHING perfectly... Watching the Demos actually turned me on to sample the JMD series, then sure enough, ended up getting it! 10/5 stars on all the demos!!
@leonard1893 He plays the chords to Back in Black but with a different rhythm. It might have helped that I had been listening to them like seconds before I watched this video :L
If this has a digital preamp and an EL34 power section, how hard do u have to drive it to have the majority of sound pumped thru the tubes? Does the signal get pushed thru the power tubes constantly or at a certain point?
i have one thing to say about digital amps FUCK'EM. There horrible i have a Line 6 amp and it sucks nothing but a heaping pile of over rate shit. you can get any kind of tone out of any amp you see as long you know what you are doing but digital amps will never sound as good as real tube amps or even solid state amps. digital amps cut out a lot of harmonics and they can't get a good distortion tone at all

@ChanielDang dude i tried this amp once and it is good sounding i recommend them to anyone who doesn't know anything about amps. but between this amp and any other tube amp out there like the JCM 800 or the JCM 2000 I'd play them over this amp any day. because like digital technology it takes away a lot of harmonic overtones that are important to getting a great tone. as for tube v solid state. i like tubes better because in my mind they sound better and you can push the gain and volume more
@headbagger63 yeah, but unfortunately my bank account can't hold like over 2000 dollars at any time hahaha. I'd pick the JMD anyway, because of my preference for solid state.
