Interesting that a 50 Watt YAG laser is capable of slicing through. I use three YAG lasers and 1 Fiber laser, and none of them can slice, only mark. My most powerful is a Scorpion Rapide running 30 Watts, but is designed primarily for etching. Didn't think a 50 Watt laser could actually cut!
it is posible to make uno in our garage or a will need a los of profesionals tools, and custom made optics. can you tell me the price to make one of this?
This laser is made with a large number of custom components, it is not really a home project unless you have a LOT of money and a LOT of free time. We build and sell these systems, and it would definitely be less expensive for you to buy from us than to buy the parts to build one yourself.
LOL! When I read your previous comments I actually thought you were serious! Only when I got to this one did I realize that you're joking.
Check out the link I added to the information box: you can see the beam clearly in the air over Hong Kong Harbor. The laser I used for making this video is now at that site. Our client made a very cool show!
When I built this laser I set the output to 50 Watts using a calibrated Coherent meter, so I know the number is accurate. You may be confused because the camera was set for a very dark image to allow the cutting action to be seen: if it had been set to show the beam in the air, the light reflected during cutting would have completely washed out the image.
It didn't cost *me* anything, LOL! But that's only because I built it for sale to a client.
People interested in high-power lasers for laser shows can contact me for system pricing; the 50W laser is usually sold as part of an overall laser show package.
Haha! No need to fake it, this is the real thing!
The laser I used to make this video is now part of the Hong Kong Harbor "Symphony of Lights", holder of the Guinness World Record for the largest permanent light and sound show.
cool, so how much would you charge me for the same one you used to cut this beautiful can, i want to buy one, I never thought that gree nalser can go through metal, wow, so yeah i'll wait for your reply
BTW do you think it would be possible to pump a yag or ruby using pyrotechnic means, ie. magnesium or flash powder? That would be very neet if it was possible because it is much more power dense than capacitors.
I was thinking of a quartz tube, and then a quartz tube cartridge that goes into it. You could set off a flash and then pull out the used tube, and quickly reload another. it would be small light and fast.
1)the light from pyrotecnics must match with the absorption band of the crystal. If not, all the energy could be wasted. Moreover for yag, the flash duration must be as short as possible.
2)when burns the powder make the cavity dirty and blackened.
3)The "fireball" that emits light, isn't transparent to itself radiation and this result loss of energy
4)xenon and kripton are obviously easier to handle.
here are my counter points and solutions for those problems... 1) mixture of other chemicals can create any wavelength u want, plus its pretty wide band esp with air around it. The cavity will get dirty but, it can be replaced with small glass tubes for each shot. the fireball will have a large diameter or surface area and wont be very dense. xenon and krypton require a large power supply.
It is "qusi-CW" -- Q-switched at 10kHz so it is pulsed very rapidly. From the pictures of the SSY1 I found on the internet it looks like that laser would burn up if you tried to get 50W from it. The I-2000 is water-cooled, so it can handle the 5kW heat load generated when producing 50W of 532nm output.
Yeah the SSY1 is designed for low repetition pulses on an absolute max of 700Volts from about 1800uF. It is pumped by a xenon flash tube and the q switch has been known to burn up at high power levels. The flash lamp can handle up to 200J impulse. I have however ordered ZnSe collimating lenses with 5:1 focal length ratios, such that I can compress the incoming beam into a beam with 5x tighter diameter. Hopefully that will yield some interesting results.

Well, yes, if we hit people in the eyes it would definitely bind them. Control measures are used to keep the beam safely away from the audience.

btw, the pulse can still be short, think about how old camera flashes worked with magnesium or magnalium w/ oxidizers.
