Would love to know what kind of weirdo was the one dislike on this. 121 likes and 1 dislike. You are a weirdo dislike dude. This was one of the most rockin' bands alive. They were the best. Saw them at Pirate's World in Dania FL. Corky Laing is the best drummer I have ever seen. Huge drum sticks flying. The loudest drummer in the world.
I give up,someone take over, please,i have had it with these fuckin stupid questions.I call on an all Americans who can read this throw me,an life line...JB..
Since Bruce influenced Geddy Lee, I would have to agree on an artistic level with the depper . . . but RUSH has stood the test of both time and sales . . .
@MrBlackmambo This album cover was one of the best. Has a Godzilla vs MekaGodzilla fight scene sense to it! :) I CANT BELIEVE a world of music without ALBUM COVERS. The world of digital music misses so much of the way we did things...
@depper Dude: you're 1000% right! I bought this album twice in that time, 1 for the play & 1 for to hang on my wall! Album-covers are 1 of the reason i never got to much in cd's!
Stll have the cassette of this..Why Dontcha is hot too ! Amazing these guys played together. Would have been interesting to grt Jack yo play in Mountain post Felix...thanks Depper !
Deep Purple - 'Fireball'. Their best album in my view. Unfortunetely sandwiched in between 'In Rock' and 'Machine Head'. So it's sometimes overlooked.
I'm not a big fan of Mk III Deep Purple (as opposed to Mk II) but I do think 'Made In Europe' was rather good. And in particular the version of 'You Fool No-One' on that album.
I've got "Made in Europe" on brand new 180 gram - and I think it's even better than 'Made in Japan'. The 'Burn' album is also high up in my books; Coverdale's vocals on 'Might Just Take Your Life' and 'Mistreated' are bloody mindblowing.
I have the remastered 'Burn' and will give 'Might Just Take Your Life' another listen. But I must say, as for 'Mistreated' the best version I've heard (in terms of vocals) was from Ronnie James Dio on the Rainbow album 'On Stage'.
Yeah, Dio nailed it. Rainbow in itself outdid Purple in my opinion. The first three albums kick so much ass it's unbelievable. Cranking 'Rising' up to full volume is something everyone must experience before they die.
You're spot on. The first 3 Rainbow albums were superb. I used to own the fourth, 'Long Live Rock-N-Roll' but got rid of it. After that, Rainbow (or to be more precise, Blackmore) just wanted to be another 'Foreigner' type band and have hit singles. However, in recent times as you're probably aware no less than 4 Rainbow live albums have been released from the Dio era. All live in various German cities.
Nowhere near as good as Cream? Bullshit. Jack Bruce got to get loose, as did West and Laing. This Supergroup was ALL about the improv. To me Jack sounded MUCH better with West than he ever did with Clapton. Listen to Powerhouse SOD if you have any doubts. Cream was all "puffed out" by the time West, Bruce, & Laing got their start. W, B, & L was the next step in hard rock and the blues, and after listening to them live, Cream sounds quite tame and flat in comparison.
Damn Tootin'. I listen to (mostly) that most creative of times in music, from around 66-74. That's not to say there isn't good music from before or after those times. But it just seems that all the great bands had there most creative times then. Of course, drugs were 'not' involved.
The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Free, David Bowie and many more. However, in my view, Frank Zappa, Tangerine Dream and The Alex Harvey Band had their best albums after 74.
Oh, and I forgot to mention Rush (up to 'Exit-Stage Left' anyway), Frank Marino, Nazareth, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Rammstein. Just name-dropping for the sake of it.
I guess I'd have to split hairs here. I don't think WB&L was as good as Cream, but I think Jack's playing was better. His playing was more advanced and just getting "crazier". Almost every cut is a lesson in advanced bass playing. IMHO.
What is so great about this power trio, is that ALL THREE were the best alive at their specialties at that point and time. Who hit the Drums harder than Corky? Who played the Bass better than Bruce? Who had a better tone and vibrato AND emitted more raw power BOTH on vocal AND guitar? This group was WAY WAY WAY before its time. Best "POWER TRIO" of all time.
@depper - i saw them at carnegie hall, and on one of the songs, corky was shooting drum sticks off a cymbal, and into the crowd, without ever missing a beat!!!
first divorce, minus 50% of my albums. second divorce lost half of what was left. somehow this one got away. what did them bitches want with this? this was for me! 'Jack GO!' (thank you youtube. thank you!)
These guys were very underated. Fantastic guitar player, one of the best bass players ever, and Laing was great. Strange they didn't stay together longer.
I saw these cats at the Houston Music Hall on thier first American tour, they were the cream of the mountain. Leslie was sporting a beautiful new Les Paul, best concert I've been to.
I saw West Bruce and Laing live at Anaheim Convention Center back in the early 70s they ended the show with a 20 minute version of SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE... one of my all time favorite concerts ever! Those were the good old days. Leslie came out on stage and started playing his guitar, and kept yelling louder to the sound man until you couldn't hear his voice any more... don't know what the DB level was but my ears are still ringing till this day.
@Flowerpotsmen101 I completely agree. It's almost as if he changed his style to get even more conceptual. He seems to be really out there. This is my favorite period of his playing.
This is amazing playing!
Wow!! All three of them are cooking!

It's quite simple really. I disagree.
ScotRanger1960 3 years ago
Ok, then we have just agreed to disagree. Thats one of the few things left we can do without charge in this country/world we live in! :)
Furthermore, I'll take Cream OR Mountain over the bullshit excuse for music thats being sold to us today.
