  • it breaks my heart that duane passed so young in life.. a truly great american. i was too young and ignorant to appreciate this band in their prime. been a devotee since 74 or so.

  • The only slide guitar player today who can hold a candle to Duane is Sonny Landreth.

  • I agree, petervan

  • This might be at the Fillmore, but the Fillmore album concerts were from March 1971 performances.

  • @zazu173 I believe this was filmed for a PBS show, but cannot be for sure

  • I saw the Allman brothers in concert in the mid seventies. It is the only concert I don't remember. I know I was there though.

  • Greatest band ever. Greatest guitarist ever. Period.

  • After 40 years it still is classic.

  • forget this version. listen to the stonybrook one. he truly captured what he really was trying to expresss at that concert.

  • @chev202

this version sounds incredible, Duanes playing and tone are vintage and outstanding

sounds like liquid glass , sooooooo fluid and powerful

  • hey max ,Im an ole Jax guy too. Probably rubbed elbows at some of these shows. Good time to be in Jax. Skynyrd played some of our school dances (Englewood class O 72) Speaking of Skynyrd..I'm going to guess you used to go see them with Running Easy and Grinder's Switch at Greenfields Riding Stables too huh?

  • Duane ... the greatest of all time!

TextEffect ... two drummers=relentless polyrhythmic magic

  • I seen th Bros. so many times at the Forest Inn in Jax. Fl. for free and at the Beach Collesum on this tour it was one of my favorite concerts and I seen all the greats being the old man that Iam but it was like yesterday, cried when I heard on the rasdio that Duane was gone.but his sound is immortal I thank God for every day I have here cause how can the dead praise him.

  • I don't know that there's ever been a tighter band musically than the Allmans. Each of them could go off somewhere they'd never been before in a song, yet everyone knew just where to go to keep it together. The musicality (if that's a word) is remarkable. I've been a fan for 40 years and haven't heard their equal yet; probably never will.

  • @buckfan1969

i agree with you on that, the ONLY band im aware of that played with more Power and Precision than these guys is RUSH.

thats it , This is really elite stuff here folks, this band are outstanding musicians, esp Duane, im Not aware of Anyone who ever Played the slide with so much fire, power and intensity combined with really thick deep exquisite melodies than him.

he makes Clapton look like an Amateur

  • is dickey betts underated or what?

  • i would love to be a time traveler and go back in time and attend this concert at the Fillmore

  • @clemenza24 I wish I could go back in time and fix Gregs mic

  • @56BUICKRiviera lol,i wish you could do that too,but it sounds so good on the album i don't understand why it sounds so bad on this video

  • Well it has been 40 years and this stuff is timeless.

  • @crazyhorse99999

just listen to that delicious FAT thick liquid tone on Duane's guitar !

    AMAZING

  • Can this show be purchased? I have waited 40 years for decent footage of Duane Allman playing in concert.

  • TextEffect, using two drummers makes for a much fuller sound - if you look and listen more closely, you will see that Butch mainly keeps the rhythm and Jaimoe does all kinds of fills and things - you can compare it to rhythm and lead guitarists working together. Remember the Doobies did the same thing with the same effect.

  • so did the dead.

  • love the allman bros. But one question, I never understood why bands use 2 drumers , WHY DO THEY DO THAT?

  • Duh.... it sounds cool.

  • Yup, really no words to describe Duane. Absolutely tragic he died so early. Not fair how good and innovative he was

  • I'm speechless.....

  • ralphfurley30, i love how you put that. theres no way to accurately describe how good and moving this band is. religously moving

  • absolutely stunning...the best film i have seen of duane and the band yet

  • no words could project this. just listen
