Marriage (or to use the scientific term, pair bonding) is the formalizing of a relationship, so that the law will make automatic assumptions with regards to property and so on if something happens to one of them. It long precedes organized religion, as grave sites more than 15000 years old have been discovered with a male and female skeleton in them, indicating that they died and were buried together. There's nothing sacred about marriage.

The private lives of its citizens are supposed to be outside the realm of government action, because there is no way to rationally legislate morality. Even if you could, morality is meaningless unless it comes from within. So, yes, by the simple fact that they are citizens, gay people have the right to be gay, to perform sodomy on each other, and to get married if they want to. Churches don't want to perform their marriages? They don't have to.

Whatever, what I wanted to point out is that the Constitution actually does give homosexuals the right to be gay.
The 9th Amendment: "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.", meaning that rights are not denied to the people just because they don't appear in the Constitution. So, gays have rights too.

The 14th amendment to the constitution is the best possible reason. Do you know what it says? "Equal protection under the law." This was enacted because of slavery, a thankfully dead institution, but it retains its original purpose: A citizen's private live cannot deprive them of the rights of citizenship, nor of the full protection of the law.

First of all, Jesus was obviously in favor af defining marriage as between a man and a woman. So was EVERYONE ELSE, throughout history (yes, I know about polygamy - it's still man-woman).
Second of all, this isn't about rights at all. It's about redefining marriage. In Ca. domestic partners have exactly the same legal rights as married couples. Plus, there's no bar whatsoever on gay people being married in private ceremonies. The only issue is the state using the word "marriage".

If a man wants to marry his sister (PLEASE understand I'm not equating incest with homosexuality - it's just an example) it's not infringing on his rights to refuse him. Actually she didn't try to make a "political statement". She answered a question that was asked of her in a beauty contest. Perez Hilton was the guy trying to make a statement by posing the question. It's "detestable and hate-filled" to bust on her because she was asked a question and she gave an honest answer. This is why Olbermann gets no ratings.
