Like most sequels there was no need for it to be made.

I Recently watched and loved S.Darko, I agree @BladeHiddenInCrowd that there really was no reason for it to be made, except for the fact that it does give a little bit more understanding to how a 'Tangent Universe' is actually opened/created.
The movie itself was beautifully created playing more on the 'Time Travel' aspect that Donnie Darko didn't really, but not that it needed to anyway.

S.Darko was good. Good filming, good direction of photography, alright plot and great choice of songs. I mean, I personally don't really care about what actors are used in a film. But a lot of people out there don't notice much else other than the acting atall. and bad acting rarely goes unnoticed. The soundtrack also made most of the film for me too, Especially the last scene when they used the Cocteau Twins song, heaven or las vegas. xxx
Best thing about the use of the Cocteau Twins song is that the actress that played Korey actually wrote the song, so it showed a multi-dimensional aspect of the performers.
The acting wasn't awful. It was actually EXTREMELY good for the direction of the movie. The two scenes after the death were well-done with the emotion and the music. You can't fault the actors. Daveigh Chase MIGHT be one of the most under-rated actresses EVER.
personally I liked the S.darko movie I thought it was kinda like a fan fiction not a real scripted movie Hence some of the acting in the scenes never the less at least they didn't fuck up the physics of the donnie darko universe also the characters were nice I loved the refrences and the new Frank mask.

Actually, it wasn't that bad. It's unnecessarily complicated, yes, but if you knew the place that the movie comes from. It's the after-math of Donnie Darko's death, and how his sister comes into her own. It's confusing, yes, but not unnecessary.

As I stated I don't think it should've been made. There was no real continuation of what happened. But all the same it was enjoyable and entertaining none the less.

s.darko was a great movie stuck to everything donnie darko was only thing was the time travel book it shouldnt have been in the film for the simple fact that donnie died before getting that book lol it shouldnt have been a sequel but was a good movie on its own
well some things were discussed aparently Donnie Can bring objects with him or maybe he just took the book when he went back after all he had the time to draw frank before he died to continue Frank's Image on our timeline.
If you are to follow the story closely, there is a short period of time between the beginning of the movie (which we are supposed to assume was an awakening between a previous attempt in the TU, so we could also safely assume he had already been exposed to visions of frank) and when the jet crashed into his house.
