  • I think the creator kind of blew it with the 1940s WW2 setting.

IMHO he should have gone for something that was more Flash Gordon, Battleships in Space. Anyway that's what I was expecting and wanted when I saw the title of the series.

  • Nagyon tuti ez a játék! (This setting is one of my favourite.)

  • Sadly I think this game went belly-up - at least the rocketshipempires1936 website no longer works.

  • Sadly the site is indeed down though the forum is still working. I have recently spoken to Ed Kann and though he is currently unable to continue writing my understanding is he has plans to keep RsE going. The game can still be bought via the download sites it was originally available through.

  • We're going to use a homebrew set of rules for our RSE campaign.

  • Thanks for the review. I'd be interested in knowing about extraterrestrial activities in this setting - sure, there's spaceships, but is there FTL? Are there habitable worlds where troops can land and besiege the enemy? I like the systemless approach, too; I agree in wishing others would take the same approach. This sounds like a perfect match for D6 Space or Hard Nova 2...

  • There is one main group of aliens who are very mysterious and are the one who provided humanity with the tech.

There is FTL and habitable worlds to explore and fight over.

  • Thanks so much for this review! I'd been a bit curious about this game before and now I know I will have to buy it. It sounds like a refreshingly original sci-fi game...sci-fi having (for me) the most limited selection of interesting options. There are very few sci-fi RPGs outside of Star Wars D6 that have had lasting appeal for me.

  • I wish more companies would do systemless backgrounds like this. I always end up converting settings I like to my favorite system anyway.

  • Interestingly enough, Spirit of the Century has just got even more possibilities... :D

  • Good review. I played in an intro game run by Ed himself. It was fun and as you said it is a good setting. I hope he has a lot of luck with it.

  • Great review Kurt, as a fan of Rocketship Empires I really appreciate you reviewing this. Just a point, the game background sort of supposes that the game starts in 1936 and although there is nothing stopping you from starting later, world war 2 is a few years off. The spanish civil war is kicking up though. Also, you can easily feed Nazi's to dinosaurs in this too, by dropping them out of your rocketship 8o). The game itself is just a setting, which is something I myself love about it.

  • Awesome review! There are quite a few "world war II didn't happen the way it happened" type of games out there, and this is probably the best idea I've heard. All Flesh Must Be Eaten has some wonderful ideas in it for how to run unisystem in a WWII enviroment, and combined with All Tomorrow's Zombies, you could easily run this game (with or without zombies.) After having read both books, do you think you could run this using Spirit of the Century?

  • Seems like a great game,.. or is it just setting? ;) I wouldn't see any problems with using New World of Darkness rules. WoD: Mortal .. in space! Or maybe All Flesh must be Eaten.. Blasting Nazi Zombies in a Space Opera.. I'm getting carried away here..

    I...Must..buy...Rocketship Empires.. 1936 ^^

  • can you review more of the Scion books by White Wolf?

  • Great vid Kurt. It's cool of you to mix in some lesser known games in amongst your coverage of the more established stuff.

    Keep it up!
