@em295 i used archive.org/details/Flyingwi1953 most boards vids used prelinger archives anything with a kodachrome vibe - i used this because i had to do a song no one had done yet - some of my favourites had already been done like constants, farewell and horizon - corsair to me was a song i would enjoy most when flying, so the video was boards perfect - turning the engines off/smoking in the cockpit/cheeky smiles, i wish it had more cloud scenes tho cos it would of just been that
listening to this evokes memories of being young and lying out on the grass in the summer, when the days were endless, just silence, the birds tweeting and the noise of a plane taking off from nearby glasgow airport. To create this imagery, nostalgia and atmosphere and compress it into one song is nothing short of genius.
@woolysammoth69 I know you're making a pun but what you said is so true. I don't get nostalgic anymore, if I do - very rarely. It's like, in the past one was so restricted in re-visiting their past - we had photographs sure, but now with the internet and instant global communication everything is available at your finger tips; old music, old tv shows and advertisisments, old games can be downloaded and will work straight away. Good food for thought, thanks.
If you like this, go watch this video featuring Godspeed You! Black Emperor's 'String Loop Manufactured During Downpour'. If you love listening to 'Corsair', seriously you need to hear this. Thumb me up so everyone can see this link. Be warned - this track is even more melancholy. Similarities to 'Corsair' start around 2 mins, but don't skip ahead. :)
Definitely makes me home sick. Those summer days when I was 12 and I had the whole world in my hands. Circling the pool with my neighbors and talking about nothing for hours and hours.
This song is so powerful, yet so simple. It reminds me of "life flashing before your eyes" when the end is near. I see myself as a child, running through tall grass fields, with the whitest of sunshine blinding me. This song to me, is like last minutes on earth, recapping all the vivid yet hazy memories, in a good way, and knowing that death is another level of life. Boards of Canada have changed my life for the better, and have had such an impact on my memories, making them reality once again.
this song always gives me the vision of me climbing a snow-covered mountain in sub-zero temperatures with the sun vibrantly beaming and all I can hear up there is the silent hush of the wind while I acknowledge that up there, it is only me and nature. time is frozen at the top of the mountain as I look down the white landscape.
This is one of their best ever. How the f&^% do they do it???
The vid is hilarious too: three engines out and the pilots are mugging for the camera, lighting up a smoke... "Say, Sammy, when I'm about to crash and burn, there's nothing like the smooth, refreshing taste of a Pall Mall, don't you think?"
"That's right, Captain Bob! And the fact that they're filter-free means you don't miss any of that rich, Pall Mall flavor! Now, what say we set 'er down in that cow pasture over there??"
For me this song evokes feelings of emergence, awakening, and conclusion...A suburban family opening the bomb shelter door after ages underground solemnly looking out upon the barren wasteland that was once their home...
There's something other-worldly about the mood of this piece.... I feel almost transported into another environment, another reality.... and, if I don't open my eyes, I can almost start to see that place coming into sight.... BoC aren't just musicians...
I was planning on making a video of a flight through the clouds set to this song. I'm glad you saved me the time : ). I like to think of the song title as "Coarse Air", rather than Corsair.
@DemBeatle I don't know. I seriously doubt dying is pleasant. More likely, it's a horrible, gasping struggle until the end, and then it's just lights out. No choir of angels.
To me, this song sounds more optimistic than depressing, because it's such a change from the rest of the album, it sounds more peaceful and organic, so it might symbolise the end of a tough journey.
OMG when i listen to this song, the concentration about just the sound makes me think of depression and love and the unknown... its amazing.. I LOVE NOSTALGIA !!!
@smokedog901 to experience nostalgia you must experience the original form of it to begin with, this isn't nostalgia if you weren't old enough to remember it in the 70's/80's. if that's the case then it's not nostalgia, it's retro.
either way it's fucking awesome. This has to be one of my favorite BoC tracks ever. rock this at sunset on a lit-up sky. It's amazing.
@jdoggybizzle He meant this song gives him a sense of nostalgia. retro is an out of date style. It seems that alot of people get a sense of nostalgia when listening to BoC. That is what makes them such an original band. Its like they are masters of getting into your sub-concious with music.
More of a light at the end of the tunnel. But I feel the same way, pitch black, floating, wind all around you. Could be depressing, could be your spirit being reborn...
Yeah. For me depression paradoxically always carries with it the seeds of transcendence. Whether that transcendence takes the form of physical suicide or egoic suicide is up to each individual to find out. May all beings find the latter.
This song has forced me to write the novel. I listened to it on repeat while was writing for 4 months.
