  • are these sounds from a keyboard or is everything preloaded into the sequencer?

  • i am blown away by the warmth out of the pads from yamaha synths

  • Nice!

  • No matter how many times I've seen this, it's still incredibly remarkable. Holy crap, dude.

  • badass

  • was all this done with this sequencer ?

  • @ermollejuo The sequencing was done in XGworks - because it's easier. :)

  • This is awesome! Nice work

  • I have never heard of this band or of this song....I was looking for a compact music making machine....when I stumbled on to THIS.....then I heard the original....I was blown away!

.....I will be getting a qy100 in a couple of days just because of THIS....I could not find a decent display of its true sound capability until I saw this....most other demos are worse than a casio sa10...not circiut bent!

....when I do something worthwhile I will post...

    ...greetings all!

  • Holy Fricken Cow dude, you Are INCREDIBLE! I know this is Above and Beyond's peice, but your recreation is spectacular! I hop you post your stuff here too!!

  • @usarian Thanks. I've finished "Stealing Time" from the same album some months ago, but yet I didn't find the time to record a video from it.

  • This is awesome.

  • wow man thnx for the upload that hlpd alot!!

  • Wow, this was nice mix? Did you put that together from the preset patterns of this machine? Even if you only did that, this still was a fantastic and superb choice of sounds and musical patterns put together. I got so inspired now I want to buy one of this. Amazing, Beautiful and Exhilarating.Electronic Music Composer and Pianist. ObeeLektro Cheers

  • how do i glide from one note to another with this qy100 with portamento??

  • Dislike Button = 0 !!!!

  • great tool, but the lack of backlight is so stupid. Does it has complete styles (unlike the QY700, which has only 'phrases') ?

  • @luigiperso the phrases are categorized into styles

  • Fucking amazing. Engrossing, transcending.

  • o.o

  • sounds good, I have a qy-70, qy-100 is much better sounding, for sure

  • @KIRKCHUKALAS I agree, I have a Qy70 and I wish it sounded this good. I will get one eventually

  • @ojideagu After I got the QY100, I wanted the demo songs of the QY70 back. ;) I'm still searching for someone to send them as MIDI files. :P

  • If this great music is a result of boredom then i wish to you to be bored the rest of your life because there is nothing more important than creating music in this fucking planet . : )

  • The result of boredom was just the programming. The composition is not by me. :)

  • Anyway my friend, if you would not programm this great music i would've never heard it so just keep programming ! :)

  • much better than QY70 :)

  • can you send me a midi file of this?

  • This is also the same melody they use in their remix of Dogzilla's "Without You". Dunno if you ever heard it, but its an awesome remix.

  • i used to have this little baby...loved it, taught me sequencing. sold it to fund my big baby, the rs7000.

nice music you make there, mate.

  • how much it cost?

  • I compared it to the original - properly mastered - you hear NO DIFFERENCE !

    UNBELIEVABLE !

I just used it with TRACKS under FM RADIO MASTER - NO DIFFERENCE !

  • Sounds freakin cool. Well done.!

  • oh and I must say this the only drum machine seq studio in box that alowed real time patterns of its kind to this day nothing else does this!

  • The QY-100 is a great machine but very difficult to hardware-program. Not very intuitive.

  • can you do all that with this machine ??

  • the qy70 and 100 were professional seq XG sound format and hell of controller playback 3 fx sends and 24 track seq 8 patterns and 16 tracks this thing was the bomb and still is I love mine

  • Question for QY owners - do anybody know, how to change time for "=END=" event in the edit mode? It's used for determining the loop of the song but it's set automaticaly by QY when you stop recording as the nearest ceiled bar... obviously, most of the time I've got one silent bar in the loop ;)

  • don't bother - just play it in again right - you can erase just the part you don't like 1/16 WISE ! if you habe 16 tacts ;)

  • thanks good tune, i'm definitely will buy one now. only i'll be getting qy 70 has it does nearly exactly the same thing...and it's $400 cheaper lol!!

  • @bally28 - clever ! just like I did ;)))

  • Yeah, : ) you enjoying it? its pretty cool! i wish there was a record loop function...like cubase...have you found it?

  • one of the most beautiful tunes ever!

  • QY-10 complete album: Marvin D 2000 on Itunes

  • Wooo now I want the QY-100. thank you for helping me decide. you are awesome!

  • I hear the Backup internal battery dosn't last very long in the QY-100, and that the QY-70 backup battery lasts about 3-4 years.. Is that true?

  • Mine does for 7 years now.

  • @JumboShrimp256 I've had my Qy70 over 10 years and not had to change the battery yet

  • for those who think trance music or any electronic music takes 2 min to make with computer, this video prooves that is can be harder than making any other kind of music

  • Yes You Right. I make shits (folk / dance ) for few hours using tons of loops and existent sounds. But with trance i didn't succeed.

  • so whats the big difference between the QY70 AND THE QY100? im trying to decide which one to get. thanks

  • QY100 is an extended QY70. It's got more and better sounds, a smart media card reader and a guitar/mic input with effects section. The styles of the QY70 are rather dance based, the ones of QY100 are Rock based.

  • In fact, QY100 doesn't have more and better sounds. It just got more memory, audio processing and sligtly improved power consumption.

Btw: I just bought one for $100 ;) and it's far better than I even imagined. Pitty that they don't do something like this again. Less weight (but same size), velocity buttons with aftertouch, backlight display with piano roll and I'll definitely buy it for even more like lets say Korg M50?

  • It does have more and better sounds. You just should compare Piano, Guitars and Drums for example. Also QY100 has 2 additional drumsets (Rock 3 and R&B) and a few more basses (FW Bass, Analog Bass, RezoBass to name a few).

  • Sorry - my mistake. I read it at few webpages and they don't have the full list. On Yamaha it's clearly said: • An additional 28 Voices for a total of 547 Voices. • Two additional Drum Kits for a total of 22 Drum Kits. It will be cool if you could do the video of those 28+2 additional voices.

  • @Hanni13579

Are there more and better sounds in compare to the QY 70 ? i got me one to my birthday, but if it would make sense, i would get me the QY 100 to christmas^^

  • @SiebzehnUndVier I have a Qy70 and the Qy100 sounds much better going by this video

  • $100 ?! kind of hard to believe, as they cost $1000 here in the uk...lucky bitch.

  • But it has missing battery cover piece ;)

  • OMG ;) I've got this video in favorities for some time now but I just heard the original ;) Eh ;)))) I like this version much more than that ;)

  • i am a collector of QY series and similar machines, i have a QY10, 70, 100, 300 &700, i allso have a RM1x and a RS7000, have a nice QY100 for sale when i have two machines, i prefer the RS7000., the 100, 700 and is nice when using a Midi Keyboard, i dont like the only backup (Floppy) on the QY700, I use a RS7000 and a AW4416 MTR in my studio

  • One more question... I'm looking for something like Ableton Live, but not in a software package. I want hardware because I don't want to use computers. What would you advise me? A MPC? A good sequencer (like the QYs)? What? Cheers :)

  • I own an MPC, a QY70, Korg EMX-1 and several other hardware units. Although now I do some audio sequencing/editing via software, nothing can compare to the QY series internal sequencer. Making and arranging music is a breeze, and the best part is it's all saved as a midi file for use in any other machine/software. Once you learn a QY, u will learn how to write real music.

  • Thanks for the reply. My now my decisions are between the QY-700 and the MPC1000. People told me the MPC can also sequence midi, so that's a big plus, since it is also a sampler. Decisions! Decisions! :( Cheers!

  • I never quite understand these kind of machines (QY-100, QY-700, etc..). What do they do exactly? I know they sequence Midi, but what else? Can I make an entire tune with a QY-700 for instance? Do I need anything else? Synths, drum machines, etc? Does this works as a sampler as well. Can someone please explain me? :( Thanks!

  • The QY-series are so called "mini workstations". It means they provide a synthesizer (Wave-rom based, but with filters and stuff) and a sequencer (pattern and song based). They just lack of a keyboard. ;)

  • Hi! Thanks for the reply. Does that mean I can also trigger through the QYs other machines, like drum-machines, samplers, synthesizers, etc? I got offered the chance of buying a QY-700 for 250 bucks. Do you think it's a good value for this and for me to enter on 'this sequencer world'. Or do you think it is a too dated machine? Cheers!

  • QY-700 is a powerful sequencer/workstation, it has it's own set of drum programs and instruments, other than this, it can be connected to a computer or other midi enbled hardware with ease of use.

My QY70 is the heart of my current studio, although I now have much better drum machines and analogue synthesizers, nothing can compare to it's internal sequencing and arrangement section. It is the only machine that I know of that can handle all MIDI/SYSEX/CC instructions.

    :)

    $250 is a steal!!

  • Korg microControl is good company for QY100 and this type music....

  • ever ehard of cubase or ableton :B ?

  • Guess what. ;P I'm not using either of them. Check out my other videos, why.

  • Good work! The strings sound awesome.

  • i think thats real amazing string arrangement adios man

  • this is so freakin' cool! =)

  • I have two QY100 and one QY700 but i perfer the 100, The QY700 is to large to bring om my gigs and i think the 100 has much better sounds and its much easier with the Card slot 3.3 V Smart Media instead of use Floppy disc that is the only option on the 700. The song memory on both sequencers are realy poor I only use Yamaha tools on my gigs such an a SLG100S Steel guitar & SLG100N Nylon and the QY100 and a Yamaha Stagepass 500 PA system, I can bring the whole gear my self to my gigs (Its small)

  • i JUST got one today.

how long did it take to get into it?

  • It depends, Buy your self a Midi keyboard or use a Keyboard or Synth with Midi IN/OUT and connect it to the QY100, If you give yorself a little time it takes a few weeks to get in to the machine, Al depend what you want to do with it, I only use it as a Midiplayer Live, not as a sequencer i prefer to use Protools LE and Cubase 4. but i have tried it and it is OK

  • Ive owned a QY70 since 1998. It took me around 2 years to fully understand every function on the QY70, but in saying that, I also learnt every MIDI and XG command. Basically, if u learn how the QY70 works u can jump on any other machine or software for that matter and understand 100% how everything works. Mine still sits in the middle of my studio, because its the only piece of hardware that can talk 2 every other machine. Quite powerful if you think of it's size.

  • "Basically, if u learn how the QY70 works u can jump on any other machine or software for that matter and understand 100% how everything works."

    You got that right!!!

That's why I'm nearly the world's biggest advocate of hardware MIDI sequencers. I'm discovering online that musicians/producers under 30 are not aware that General MIDI (GM) was conceived as a means to control "hardware synths" produced by various makers.

See...The Complete MIDI 1.0 Detailed Specification.

  • I've never seen a product like this before. Can you play (somewhat) complicated piano parts on it or something to that effect?

  • I still prefer this unit to a laptop any day and I have actually programmed computers for a living. The combination of the QY100 & the Kork PadKontrol is a match made in heaven!

  • Had a QY70 and did some similar stuff; sold it awhile back, but regained interest in, for me hands on sequencing(I'm still learning Reason3 ?

This sounds really nice hope you finish it!

  • Awesome. 0_0

  • Impressive!

  • cool. really good video quality and sound quality, by the way. impressive across the board

  • are all the sounds coming from qy100 `?

  • Yes. It's directly recorded from the QY's phones output into my soundcard input. No further editing was done (except cutting and normalizing).

  • I wish Yamaha would make atleast one more new version of the QY, I'm just afraid that they think people will rather buy a laptop computer...

  • I'd love a new QY with Motif ES sounds or something. ;)

  • That would be cool. As much as I love Yamaha gear (AN1X/AN200) have you seen the lame sound engine they put into the Tenori-On, you would of thought they would of done more on such a ground breaking product

  • All music is MIDI; if your midi arrangement is cool then it's easy to render it on HQ synths; great demo!

  • Thanks for this -superb -nice to hear a decent demo of what this baby can do -keep up the good work.

  • that sounds fuckin incredible, and people try bashing it on the sounds but oh my god, this thing would be a dream come true for me

  • Excellent!

Try to "finish" it one day!

  • Great!

  • Sounds really really close.
