You know who kind reminds me of them today, chris paul and david west. Don't get me wrong that duo isn't nearly as exciting. Aww! man only if these players and players like reggie miller and david robinson were still playing.
Damn man i was too young when these guys were together to remember seeing them, my father would tell me all about these guys during the sonic days when i we used to watch payton on the lakers and heat. Wish i was old enough to see these two play together but seriously 2 of my favorites.
oh thanks man! these were the times when i loved basketball more than ever.. payton made me wanna just pass the ball and kemp made me wanna dunk that shit! i can't even imagine the number of times i fooled around as a kid trying to reenact that pass at 0:10 - my favourite play of all time.
word... the nba today is full of kids who don't love the sport as much as the OG's did lol.. for example: LEBRON JAMES.. he's a good player but he's a sucker
there will never be another kemp, rodman, hakeem, ewing, jordan, miller, bird, magic, pippen, malone, robinson, drexler, payton, petrovic, barkely, laimbeer, worthy, stockton, richmond or wilkins.
never missed a game these two playd in..... good vid but still missing at least a hundred more oops from payton to kemp ........ best point ever as far as entertainment with the mouth and the d ........payton was perfect for seattle... he likes the best dro...... kemp to but he liked that white girl to much....all good ...best ever oops 4 sure.......
Man, this was off the hook!! Thanks a million. We gotta get the Sonics back in Seattle. Those were the days. GP and Kemp. You knew going into those games that with those two on the court, you had a chance to win, plus see an exciting dunk.
azin619 honestly there would be no kidd/martin or paul/chandler without payton/kemp. They made the alley-oop what it is today. no one threw it up like gary and no one has put it down off the oop like kemp before or after them with the consistency or the power.
Payton/Kemp what a tandem they were in the early and mid 90's. My Other Favorite Combo was Johnson/ Mourning who didn't love the Hornets in the early 90's
i think solely based on alley oops jkidd to kenyon martin has to be the best duo ever, from 2001-2004 they were untouchable but I'd rank Payton and Kemp right up there along wit Chris Paul to Tyson Chandler after.
@azninvazn619. I agree Paul to CHandler dish and dunk was great because of Paul's playmaking ability and CHandler's athleticism. However, if Paul/Chandler vs Payton/Kemp in 2-on-2---LOL big time. Kemp with a flu and a bad game is still 10x better than Tyson Chandler's best.
Micheal Cooper of the 80's lakers dream team roster invented the word alley-oop. They used to call him Alley-Oop Coop. Gary Payton & Shawn Kemp made the alley oop famous though. They honed that shit
Sonics was also a very good defensive team, swarms of bees stealing here and there, Gary Payton, Kendell Gill, Hersey Hawkins and Nate McMillan were all good at steals. Remember that McMillan was also injured during the 96 final, so had Nate been healthy that year, with better defense, Sonic would had a better chance in game 1-3. Remember, it was the break down in defense that cost sonics some of the early games.
GP's pass to Kemp at 0:27 is one of the sickest, most ridiculous plays I have ever seen in the sport of basketball. Gary just makes it look so easy...
Shawn Kemp is the best dunker in NBA history.MJ and Dr.J is no close him Dominique Wilkins is good but not best Shawn Kemp true only 6"10 who can dunk like guards
There will never be a more powerful dunker with more style than Shawn Kemp. Right now only Lebron resembles Kemp. He is still the best, no one better, Dr. J, Jordan, he shits on all of them when it comes to dunking.
Agreed, grandagent323. I used to marvel at how effortless he made things look. Spin moves? No problem. Ridiculous hang time? Check. Cock your arm back and rip the freakin' rim right off the backboard? Eazy duz it...
I don't think you can really compare Dwight Howard and Shawn Kemp. Howard lacks the quickness of Shawn. Dwight could never run the floor like Kemp. In terms of power, okay, I can see that. But, the thing that seperated Shawn from other power forwards was his ability to run like a guard while flushing it down with the ferociousness of a big man.
Great video, when I was younger I owned EVERYTHING Shawn Kemp. He was a big power forward who was quick and could jump out of the building. Dwight Howard is the only other person I know who can compare to Kemp.
Never in my life have I seen a player that has so captured my imagination (yes, that includes you M.J.). Perhaps my second saddest day as a Seattle sports fan (Oklahoma City, eat a di*k) was the day Kemp left and the problems that followed him for the rest of his career...
I grew up in the Seattle area and immediately took to Kemp. Each year, my dad and I would pick a player on the Sonics and see which player would have better stats night in and night out. I chose Kemp in his rookie year and, even though he struggled at times, he showed me something and I stuck with him every year. Soon, it became quite clear that, along with GP, he was the face of the franchise.
The Sonics killed throughout the 90's, had one of the best records for the decade; however, they had a couple of poor performances in the playoffs. But believe me, they killed with Pierce...they killed with Barros...they killed with McKey...they killed with Gill...the killed with Mr. Sonic...they killed with Eddie Johnson...etc. etc. etc. My least favorite team was the one that made it to the finals, but I was happy that they made it and happy that Kemp destroyed everyone.
too bad gary payton got swapped for ray allen. allen to seattle, gary to milwaukee for 1 season. so there would never be gary & allen together even in both their primes.
If he was playing nowadays, Shawn Kemp would lead the league in technicals. He did a TD celebration after every dunk! Haha. Shawn Kemp don't give a fuck. That's when the game was fun.
thats what clay bennett gets for screwing seattle and their sonics fans. OKC thunder sucks! What goes go around comes around and OKC thunder will never be successful until clay bennett steps down as the owner or sells the team to someone else. f*ck clay bennett and his organization the Professional Basketball Club LLC.
hahaha im so fucking pissed, theres no way pippen is better than gary. in any stat, in the way they played, in the intensity they brought, theres no way scottie makes top 50 and gary doesn't
Man, these were the good times. A Prime Kemp, with Payton n Schremp. That spells trouble. They were so good they went to the Finals in 96. Prime Kemp would hang with the best of them. I mean, Kemp dunk so hard, SPARKS FLY OF THE RIM. LOL. A Great duo. I love at 00:08 sec. One of the sickest passest I ever seen. And at 00:27 is just crazy. I love that play n it goes with the music to. Just a sick pass from GP to Kemp. At 3:26 is to funny. Kemp dribbles over Vinnie heads LOL.
Excellent point. Both of them were at their apex when Chicago was just unbeatable. I Just would take this Sonics team. But I don't discount the Jazz at all.
I had a pair of Kemp's with the pump on them. Miss those days.
