  • The shaft doesn't spin.

  • Use a spring to make the "kick" happen.

  • Me ha encantadooo, buenísimo! =D

  • This video is very interesting. i like it

  • When I was in prison, some one gave me a good Master combination lock that was closed, no one knew the combination. This black guy put it up to his ear and turned the dial in both directions and pulled the hasp for about 7 minutes, turning and pulling. Sure enough he popped that thing open and knew the combination. I seen that with my own eyes. I thought "not much point in putting that on my locker", I couldn't believe it.

  • Please make tutorial!

  • It not clear to a normal ear but put on a stethoscope and let me flick it and see how your ears are then

  • So there is no faint tell tale 'click' sound when the notches line up. This means the old stethoscope safe cracking trick used on TV and in the movies is hogwash.

  • I wish my school teachers had had things like this; I think it would have made them much more effective teachers.

  • Now I can break in lockers with this. -:3

  • how to make it?

  • Very

  • LOL MasterLock

  • jesus man aldi dry roasted peanuts have a damn tasty flavour

  • I have an open Brinks combination lock but I can't remember the combination. I opened it using the soda can technique but I don't want to throw the thing away. I know there is a way to figure out the combination by shining a light in the open hole where the lock hook should go, but I don't exactly know how. Could you please email me instructions (not sure I will know how to return to this site)

    Littlelorelai@yahoo.com

  • so thats how it work's...

  • It would be nice to demonstrate that if you apply gentle pressure on the release lever while turning the dials, you can feel the rotors click, giving you a set of numbers to try (3 CW, 3CCW, half duds). That's why it's important to have some sort of interlock between the release lever (or the shackle) and the dial so they can't be operated simultaneously. Effective locks rigidly separate the entry of the key data with the testing of the key data to avoid leakage.

  • dude srsly are you making green for all these inventions?! you better be

  • the numbers are 18, 21, and 11

  • make a double lock

  • i want to build one

    Thanks

  • this is great I was just thinking how these things worked a couple days ago. I found this while researching steam engines though haha.

  • Very good video showing the internals of a standard combo lock. Nice build!

  • This is one of the only genuinely interesting and informative videos on Youtube! Love it!

  • 1378 people are lock thiefs

  • Ok, now I know that you must have been the guy at my high school who was stealing everybody's lunches!

  • i actually almost understand how combination locks work now

  • Order my wooden combination in my video.

  • Good work! I made but combination! You can see my video.

  • do you only work with wooden?

  • @JDGP007 he probably uses wood because metal and other materials can be expensive and he is only for the most part trying to show you how something works and hes not giong to practically use it for something

  • It seems like you would be able to open this wooden lock by knowing only the first two numbers, and then pressing on the opening lever while turning the wheel. It should pop open when the last wheel is in the right position. Can you do that with a real lock too?

  • @TirianB yes you can

  • @TirianB thats a good question sir, iv'e tried this on my wooden combo lock and it works, gonna try it tomorrow on a real one

  • *Unlocks with lighter*

  • THE MASTERLOCK LEARNED

  • Comment removed

  • I know your combo now biatch!

  • You could have some kind of spring loaded latch to reset the combination.

  • I like the Master Lock opening trick near the end. That may just come in handy.

  • Cant quite get my head around whether this would work for more than 3 disks.... say a combination lock with 5 codes.

  • @fronkenpoop Im pretty sure it would, you would just have to make it a bit longer...hmmm

  • @Yawnmon Wooden anything + termites = no wood.

  • 15, 16, 31... now i know if i ever need to get past your masterlock, mwahahaha :D

  • ur my hero dude¡

  • LOL imagine in the P.E. locker in school, "How'd you open my lock?!!" "youtube."

  • how did you make it

  • shoot it

  • to bad I already know the combo. Now wheres the giant wooden high school locker? lol.

  • Interesting (from a psychological perspective) how making something from a certain material can make it easier to understand. I wonder if this is because so many of our toys were made of wood?

  • @decadyne Well, if it was metal instead of wood, it'd be the same thing, the only reason it seems easier, is because the wooden lock is open for you to see the inner parts.

  • @blackyoshi11

Huh? That isn't what I was saying. I was observing that a given material appears to affect how a person perceives a model. In this case, it's plywood which also was a common toy material for many of us. I'm aware that a metal and wood model could conceivably be exactly the same, but it's interesting how a wood version carries a more "explanatory" element just by virtue of being made of wood.

  • @decadyne I'd have to disagree though... I don't think a wood version would carry a more "explanatory" element. It would all depend on the individual, and their previous knowledge/ability to learn.

  • @blackyoshi11

That's fair. It's entirely possible that such a perception is individual. I think, however, that there is some general validity to the notion. I think, maybe, because it's part of the idea of simplifying something to demonstrate one specific set of principles.

  • That's so cool!

  • I think you may have just taught the nerds at school how to get back at their bullies!

  • @Yawnmon wooden lock + fire = not good

  • @leon0862 fire burns metal locks too, blowtorches are portable.

  • @leon0862 wooden lock + axe = SCORE! LOL

  • @leon0862 now i dont have to use tnt

  • you can just burn the bitch down

  • well now u just gave the password away to 544,120+ people.

  • @Yawnmon but.... robber breaking lock+owner with a gun=robber dead

  • This is probably the best description on how a combination lock works. Good for you for taking the time to build this wooden model and giving a nice explanation on how it works. Thumbs up for you!!

  • Now I know how to steal shit

    :D

  • Wow, thats bad ass

  • This is very impressive. Not only did you succeed in making, and showing of your skill and intelligence by demonstrating this lock, you also managed to learn quite a few people, me included, how padlocks work, and how you can break the. Great video.

  • Wooden... very very safe!!!

    Just kidding... AWESOME WOrk!!!

  • well i learn how combination locks work, thanks :)~

  • Pretty cool.

  • so that's how it works

  • do you sell them?

  • thx you now i have a magic trick to show my friends how to get in the gym room lockers lol XD no but seriously this vid is really nice

  • good

  • Thank you for the info. Now i can go into the Bank......

  • Awesome.

  • Nice one. I got inspirations and I made a wooden safe with combination lock :). It works well.

  • Great project you have there. Makes it easy to understand how these locks work.

About the master locks: I learned this in high school. Many people would close their school lockers without turning the dial. I found out that sometimes you could move the dial forward and then back until you got it open. Of course I didn't go and steal anything, but it was just fun to see how many people were careless.

  • Skillz!

  • what do you use it for

  • those padlocks are easily broken into, i made this this with a pepsi bottle where you just lnside it into the bar and it opens.. If its a cheap one

  • cute

  • muhahaha now i will use the code to break into your house ;P

  • I've waited a long time for a way to hack a master lock;-

  • COOL!!! that is so amazing!!!

  • do they let kids use this in middle school

  • nice job

  • Same yo. Except for the stealing
