A simulator, simulates reality. the more realistic it looks, the more it will effect your central nervous system into believing what you see... thus changing the study's data significantly because the driver "got lost in the realism" allowing himself to feel more natural and comfortable.

I'd love to see an F1 sim on this thing. I wonder what the torque rating is on each of those tracks. I bet it could simulate 5G's under braking if you bowled the thing way over and cranked all the tracks backward at full tilt. The feeling would only last for a second before you run out of room, but man, what a fun, safe, repeatable second.

You know what I don't get, what happens when it gets to the end of the rail but they're still driving forwards. Obviously, the machine would have to stop, but the simulation would keep driving. The person inside would be like... Whut?

to tuxipopers.. I am an indy gamedev working on a vigilante/bagguy-type game that take place in a city. In the game you basicaly choose to be either a criminal or a vigilante. There is NO story, you try to "take over" gang territory. Most playing will be centered around the players CAR, so i'm focusing on SUPER realistic physics for vehicles.. I happen to be watching this video just to get ideas for graphics..

If will probably take forever, but if you want, i'll let you know if it's done.

WHEN THE F*CK are game devs gonna release a Driving (SOFTWARE) game like this? The closest thing so far is Test Drive Unlimited (Good game) but is lacking realistic traffic, a more beliavle enviroment, realistic weather, realistic damage model and physics, little details there and there, people!, etc...

What Im triying to say, We don't have our Flight Simulator of CARS still.. it dosn't mean to be less fun (on the contrary)

I don't see a point in sims like that. There are flight simulators because ordinary people couldn't afford a plane, there are racing simulators because ordinary people couldn't afford a race car. But what's the point of well, ''driving'' simulator? In real life, you drive from day-to-day. Then you come home, and what will you do? Drive in your simulator at 50 km/h? That's not fun. That's why no one want's to make something like that.

The point is its in Toyotas safety reseach lab.. It as accurately as possible mimics driving conditions and feedback so drivers reponses can be monitored and the data used to enhance safety features in their cars. Well, thats what the CEO said in the expense claim for his new toy anyway.

lol oh dear - yes because of course I've neer heard of the FD301 and 401. The 401 has no heave or sway, enough said. I've heard they aren't particulaly realistic anyway, poke around the forums. Fun, yes, realistic? not such much.

So, the FD 401 has a 360 degree screen does it? It simulates real-world driving conditions and actual (not implied) g-force? No. Does this? Yes.

It is NOT an entertainment simulator. Toyota are a massive company, why stick it in a tiny room?? BTW the fd401 is $85k
