  • Southernprepper1, I would love for you to get a wind screen for your cameras mic. ;) I love your videos, and your almost always out side, but in most its hard to hear you at times. Hope you dont take this as rude because its not at all ment to be. Keep up the great content!

  • I absolutely love this system, I live on a semi rural edge of suburbia and use well water, I'm always jealous of my neighbors during power outages, this system is really useful well before shtf

  • Is a pond a workable backup plan. We have about a two acre lake in our backyard, stocked with catfish and bluegill. How difficult would it be to make it safe to drink? I just always assumed I could boil it or filter it and everything would be ok. Am I wrong about this? It gets good flow and has a feeder river that is almost always running. Not the clearest water, but I know it is fresh runoff for the most part. Anyone who knows, please respond. Rural area, no sewage or pesticides.

  • @craig79792000 yes a good filter would work also boiling it would work. You have a plan.....great

  • That is awesome!

  • what type of disaster do you prep for

  • What do you suggest for us city/suburbia dwellers

  • @or2169 store water in 55 gal. barrels and put in rain catchment from the gutters.

  • @or2169 Get out of the city. You'll have alot better % to survive. because desiese wont affect you and there wont be 1 milion hungry people next dor ;D

  • @southernprepper1 Do you test your water for contaminants? if so, how?

  • David have you ever had to kill in combat? Does it strain your conscience and weigh on you?

  • good video.

wow. im single. know any guys like you in wv. lol

  • I guess I was wondering if its possible and if you know if a hand pump that would fit my needs to do this.

  • A water plan. Well alright then.

  • First thanks for all the videos and useful tips and ideas, I have a lake behind my house in a wrol or shtf do you think its possible hell I'm not sure if there even is such a hand pump but if there is is it possible to run a garden hose connected to a hand pump and get water to my house that way? The lakes about 150 to 200 feet from the house and id say about a 20 foot incline.

  • @SJPrepper0569 the only problem is you would need to purify the water before you use it but you could pump it up to a tank then purify it and bring it into the house.

  • @southernprepper1 Does your hand pump spice into the existing water main that goes down 400' to the pump and check valve? Is there stigmatic; where to I buy it; and how much? The solar panel and electric motor is a great idea, even if you have to run a hose from the well house cellar and carry buckets into the house. My well should be 5' away from my foundation, not 200'!

  • @southernprepper1 I could probably disconnect the 30 AMP Sub panel that feeds the upper part of the well house and the other 15 AMP that feeds the well pump and hook a solar panel up to the roof and not have the well run at all on the grid too, I'd just have to figure out how much it draws (depends how often a faucet is opened. The boiler should always maintain water pressure. I priced a wood boiler and my plumber is right, I'd spend more using an upgrade and ya need wood.

  • @SJPrepper0569 SP1 is a distributor, right? LEHMAN's Non-Electric supply is good one..

  • The importance of water cannot be highlighted enough. Thanks for posting this video.

  • Just a Hint. When Video taping, put a piece of foam over the speaker to block the wind. Lots of static in your last few outdoor videos. Or use a remote mike with a foam cover on the mike inlet. Its annoying and I can barely hear what you are saying. Thx for all your efforts..

  • how much ? ... with a well already existing...

  • praise God your generosity <3

  • Great vid man, water is the most important item

  • Thank you for the help on the Water calculation for every inch of Rain

  • Having a supply of fresh water would be a problem in my area. Mining pollution has rendered the ground table water useless even for watering the garden. I often wonder about a solar still, but that would be a slow process.

  • @cockercane How about a rain catchment system and use a ceramic water filter to purify it.

  • I gotta get me one of these. I have a few hand pump wells but they are all shallow. My deep well is electric. Obviously. I don't have any way to hook up both but it would be nice to just have this thing sitting a box with all the stuff I need to hook up the day the lights finally go out for good.

  • @SustenanceNCovering you can hook up both your electric and a simple pump in most situations. It depends on your set up but if you have a submersible electric well pump no problems.

  • @southernprepper1 I have one of those sta rite jet pumps. I don't think that they make them anymore. I had it rewound about 15 years ago so I know that it is an old one. It is upright and the drop pipe screws directly into the base of the pump. No elbows, just straight out of the base of the pump. Straight down to the jet. I have about 60 feet of drop pipe but I think that the water level was only 20 feet down.

  • @SustenanceNCovering They make a cap that you can use your jet pump and also a simple pump. What size casing is it.

  • @southernprepper1 I wouldn't know. I have a spare pump out there with it that is exactly the same as the one that is hooked up. What would I measure? Is there any pics on the interwebs of the cap that you are talking about? I have a presure tank as well as 5 35 gallon water barrels hard lined into the system that are in my attic. They work great for a hurricane, but would run dry after about a month. Sure would be nice to be able to pump them back up without electricity.

  • @SustenanceNCovering measure the size of the casing. What is the diameter of the casing of the well. In our area the are mostly 6 and one fourth.

  • jw but do you work or how do you pay for every thing?

  • @hellyeahlol2011 I work and I also eat alot of rice and beans and heat with wood and drive old cars so I have no debt. Live very frugal I dont make much money I just live within my means.

  • Hey SP1, are there any simple pump contractors in Canada?

  • 36 ft. Wow. Right on. The area Im looking at is about 300 ft or more.

  • love your insight and prepping ideas. I live in new england were during the winter season it gets really cold. What would you do for preps to keep warm if you have no power

  • Great info. I have been trying to figure out how to pump water uphill from the river at my b.o.l. Its a 50-60 degree angle of the hill and about 100' vertical rise and 220' ground run. Any suggestions would help immensely.

  • @EarthshipFreedom so many options and there are whats called river pumps that pump from the flow of the river as there power. To many variables to talk about here. I would be glad to call you or have you call me. I will send you a pm.

  • I would love to see a video of a water pump being INSTALLED, to show us how to do it.

  • I spoke with my well company today about this very thing for emergency. Plan is to install a hand pump in my basement directly where the water line already enters the house and connects to the main. Very easy to adapt by removing a boiler drain and adding a few fittings. In cold weather climates, the line to the well should already be far below the frostline, so no freezing problem. Existing water supply will be reliable and clean, but they said static water level not to exceed 22 feet. .

  • What about cold winters? I live in NH and would worry about freezing.

  • @bfinn762 in cold climates they use a pitless adapter that takes the water out the side of the casing to the house so it cant freeze. The pump in the form I have set up has a weep hole 4 foot down so it weeps out and will not freeze.

  • You are lucky to have water so close to surface. My well is 452' deep so I had to put in a 1000 gallon underground holding tank, then plan B is the 25,000 gallon swimming pool with enough drain pipe to use the pool for house runoff containment. Last resort is the pond.

Would rather have the hand and solar pump option though.

  • How is the water pure without any filters or chlorinator? What about cholorforms & other bacteria? I am on a well w/electric pump and I do not have a chlorinator so I use it for bathing, etc. but do not drink it due to cholorforms, sulpher, iron, etc. I rent filter tanks but still it does not take out all the iron and sulpher. My well is like 127ft deep. Took that far to hit water. Did you send in a sample of water off this well for testing to see how pure it is? What about freezing temps?

  • This idea is brilliant.

  • Hey David, sorry it took me a while to get back with you. I spoke to a guy today who is going to install a hand-pump well on my 6-acre property and he also recommended a nice hand-operated camper model. Again thanks for your advice and keep up the good work and videos.

  • very good video, thank you and have a great day

  • David, please send me info of how to puchase this from you....This a great idea for a great cause...thank you Sir.

  • I like this video a lot. it sure will be nice once you get solar up and you are not relying on the man to sustain life. looks great

  • i live in an urban area. would it still be poss to pump water out of there? I'm in AZ. Also do u have any vids on how to use solar panels? Thx buddy

  • Any tips to digging/drilling your own well?

  • @timcosrte There is but there is no way I can type everything in this little box. I will have to make a video so I can share things easier than typing. A picture is worth a 1000 words.

  • @southernprepper1 I agree. I like your videos. I am a prepper in the Ozarks in NW Arkansas. I would like to dig a well. Not sure how far down the water is here...and we do deal with some ledge.

  • would you please send me the info and cost of this simple well. I have a co-worker who is interested in this, and so am I. Thanx!

  • I really would like all the info if you could send it to me please. Thanks jd6381

  • Please send me info and price on pump setup I need the cap and pump if you need anymore info just lmk

  • I cannot understand why anybody would give this great video a thumbs down. Just trolls I guess. I will share this video with a friend who is putting down a well. He may contact you.

    Thanks!!

  • I have city water but my well is still here and attached, the motor is dead. Is there and easy way to tell if this pump will work for me?

  • @MrLandphill Is the motor dead or burnt out or just the power is off. Is is a jet pump or is the pump down the casing?

  • @southernprepper1 the pump is in my basement it is a Gould Century 3/4 hp 230v 1 phase and when i turn the breaker on it tripps within a few seconds or so. I will have to try the power again in the morning, almost 2:30 am here, i used some pliers and freed up the shaft so the impellar may have been froze up is all. will get back to you on that.

  • How do you know is there is underground water source on ones property? in my backyard there is an area that has a circle of rocks just below the surface it's about a three foot perfect circle and that area of ground is slightly sunk the subdivision is green acres it use to be farming land along time ago before 1948,whats the best way to find out if this is a well?

  • @indman101 It sounds like it was a dug well so if it is probably not worth digging it up.

  • What size sharp panel? Wholesale solar had a big sale on some nice kyocera panels

  • @lpdavisakgto Its 245 watts

  • I think the very end of the video is actually the most important part. sharing will be critical. sharing knowledge, resources and most of all sharing goodwill with your neighbors. that act of kindness may save their life but also my save yours as they will be more likely to be there for you in your time of need. good video and a good lesson.

  • Hey southern prepper use a gassifier attached to a gas generator. infinite energy if ya got plenty of wood!

  • awesome video, I live in the city, I need to work on getting some barrels so I can use the roof to gather water in an emergency.

  • Is there a place to pick up 12V products. Like small fans for solar heaters. I am setting up a dc system put dont have a source for parts. Thanks for the great vids.

  • so how much are you charging for that unit? I have a well that is 60ft deep and I can install it myself.

  • Obama Signs Martial Law Bill: NDAA Now Law

  • Looks like you've got a very reliable system. I know you said that you and Engineer775 install these pumps and I was wondering how much a system like this costs after it's been installed and is fully operational. My option right now for water is a big Berkey system, but I'm also trying to supplement it with something else in case it failed for whatever reason. I happen to have a decent sized lake near my house and I've been trying to figure out if a well would be viable.

  • @SnareFreak04 If you dont have a well right now I would stick with your plan of using your berkey and the lake or look into a roof top rainwater collection system.

  • Great video. Happy New Year!

  • Thanks for sharing.

It is extremely important to have access to clean water if you are short of food. Normally, maybe you only drink 2 liters a day. But if you are short on food, you drink a lot more.

  • Great video and concept. I live in Utah where the water table is about 250' below ground level. You said that you can "do it yourself" up to about 250'. How? At 300' you said you need a professional well digger. Talk to me! Thanks.

  • I will use ocean water if the shtf. Until then, I am forced to drink city water.

  • @TheDogcop. Look at him closely he did'nt drink his water.

  • That's awesome..... too bad I live in a condo ;) c

  • Can this be adapted to an existing wellhead? Also, is there a way to prime the system if you loose prime from a poor seal....?

  • @jwbonner1 yes you just change the cap out that is designed for 2 pumps. The pump head is in the water not like a pitcher pump so no problem with priming it. A pitcher pump or suck pump can ONLY suck water from around 33 feet under the best conditions so its great for shallow wells. The simple pump is a lift pump that puts the pump head down the well. This will let you pump water from as far as 350 feet.

  • Where can we buy that, and can that work with a current water pump system that runs on electric, my parent's are looking for something to use if their electric water pump goes out. Their water is about 100 feet down in the ground. Anyone got ideas?

  • You can't survive long without [clean] water to drink (about 3 days). This being anywhere but No. 1 on anyone's prepping list is crazy. Great video!

  • If the power goes out, the pumps will go out for the city to pump their water. DONT rely on government

  • I am in Idah, our freeze line is about 4 feet below ground surface. Is there a check valve on the line? I would need the water to fall down to the freeze line in winter.

  • @edpleasure there is a weep hole so the water weeps out from the head but also in cold climates like yours they put in a pitless adapter where the water discharges your casing underground and then goes to the house. And this really helps in freezing conditions.

  • @TheDogcop you could probably install a pitcher pump and have only $100 in it if your water level is about 30 feet or less from the surface.

  • I just got back from a conference called "Faithwalkers" near Ashville, NC. It would have been pretty cool if I could have met you and your family. God Bless your family and friends.

  • @TheTomphson you where not far from me

  • Awesome, but you did't really drink the water did you ? Be honest you pretended! :)

  • Absolutey awesome! I wish I lived near folks like yourself. Keep the videos coming.

  • @TheDogcop how far down is your water. The static water level is important because maybe a pitcher pump might work. I would be glad to talk to you on the phone to give you more options.

  • Hello David: Great video! Your channel is one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing. I wish you and your family a Happy and Healthy New Year! Best regards, David

  • I guess you have no OPSEC. How many of your neighbors know about your preps that havent contributed to them?

  • @1stworlder thanks for your concern but Iam surrounded by preppers. I will take a community of preppers over hiding and not making contacts and a community.

  • @southernprepper1 Thats good about your community. You can't chose your neighbors. Most in my area with something passing as preps are my kin and I hear what others say about my uncle refered to as "16 guns"Lastname.

  • @southernprepper1 Just so you know that 16guns is supposed to be to many. Despite needing muzzleloaders for that season.

  • I like the idea of a well with a Simple pump added. A cistern is currently by back-up to city water but I've read that the soil is better for filtering out radiation contaminants.

  • @southernprepper1, I live inside the city limits and right now we are renting. What do you recomend for my family of 6? I have some bottles set aside but nothing serious. How can I best prep water if I can't drill? We really want to get outside of the city but we can't right now.

  • @acrosby74 rainwater catchment

  • we have a well, it constantly feeds without power. it's old and not hooked up to the power,

  • in the old days they broke out the shovel and got to diggin lol.

  • im lucky to be surrounded by lakes and streams all within a few minutes walk. i plan to use my bicycle with cart to haul two 5gal buckets each day if need be. i can also use the cart as a hand cart without the bike. most of my neighborhood is empty/abandoned as is which means lots of 50gallon water heaters which may be full and accessible even after city water stops flowing. im not sure many ppl realise that resource. boilers as well power out they stop eventually cool off.

  • I've written to Scott about the simple pump for our well, but when we dug the well we came up empty, no water. I'm bummed out but otherwise we have a great retreat.

  • how would i dig a 250ft well myself... what tools would be necessary?

  • @cramlow1 at that depth you need a machine a professional well drilling rig. I have used a hand auger type but the max is around 50 feet.

  • Hello David, Does the Simple Pump have a frost free check valve? Some older hand pumps I have found, have a plunger around the sucker rod placed where the water will back flow below the ground surface to keep it from freezing. That is a major concern of mine with the cold winters here in Pennsylvania. Thanks for any info you may have. Take care.

  • @drumdude68 yes it does...or you could use a pitless adapter and run it out the side

  • 100% in agreement with you. WATER got to have it. Everything else is secondary. I would love to move to the Carolina's for a more stable weather that you have.

  • Water is thee most important item - I agree totally!

  • I got to get me one of those. I will look them up. Thanks southernprepper.

  • Its a great piece of kit

  • Hi southernprepper1 once again your video's are just awesme !!!

  • I've been eyeing a similiar pump (or maybe it's yours?!?) Cool! I will probably be ordering this month (fiances willing). Can you use it in a 4" well casing? Yours looks to be a 6"?

Our static water level at the house is about 26', so we should be good to go. I DREAM of being off-grid. I'm not sure we can get there, but I'm constantly researching ways to do it. Great vid -- thanks so much for sharing this with us!

  • how much are those pumps....and did u put your well in yourself so close to your house....been watchin your vids...thank you for doing what ya do.

  • my boyfriend just gave me Bison pump for xmas

  • Off topic, but have you thought about how to protect your windows from gunfire?

We have a lot of windows, and glass will be a target even for nuisance shooting.

  • Have you thought about using a dehumidifier for non-essential water like gardening, or in a situation where it would be boiled? It wouldn't be EMP-proof, but it would stretch your aquifer's life out that much farther.

I ask this only because where I live the water table is not so readily-accessible, and getting water from the air might be easier.

  • @Involved6 That's what I have too - a dehumidifier. This is a great idea though if you have a well:)

  • I have a simple pump as well and it is of very high quality.

  • awesome pump man, so right now it's grid tied and your going to go to solar powered motor?

  • I've been wanting a well on our property, but we live in NE Texas and the last time I checked, they had to drill down to 350 feet - past a very thick rock layer that is close to the surface - just to hit anything. I'm lucky enough to have a pond and a creek that runs through my property.

  • Can you put a link to the pump in the Notes?

  • I have a jet pump on my well. Will this set up work with it or would I need to drill another well?

  • This is my down fall to my overall plan.I have not got a well witch i would need first no dought.I saw the pump at one of 775 and your meetings in tr for my self but not in action though. wow RIGHT ON!! Thank you sir for your video,I feel they will one day help my community and my whole family [id like to know more.}dent man

  • Got a dealer I the southern Kentucky area. Have a well 135 feet deep and need everything replaced. We have removed the 60 year old pump and pipe. Love the simple pump solution and other than you don't know where to start. Ideas?

  • I love it!!! I wish i could do this stuff to my house in Michigan, Right now im stuck in the city. i have all my sh@t together here but i want a camp off the grid just like you guys

  • Great video and a good idea! I have my well pump motor in the house, is there a means to install a simple pump inside off the pump? If so I would be interested to know where to get these simple pumps as having the manual pump indoors would be ideal in my situation. Thank you and hope the holidays are good for you and your family!

  • nice clean install, simplier the better.

  • cool deal ....have to look into that

  • I am not allowed a well. The city says everyone must be on city water, or they will take the property. No wells or other water systems allowed. I am afraid that only leaves the river for us, which is not to far away, but it is still a bit of a pain to have to walk down there and get it. We have a small amount stored, and have some basic rain collection, which we will be upgrading.

  • @southernprepper1 I live in Ohio where no natural aqua firs run. Part of the geological goldmine of the cincinnatian dome filled with old fossils from the earliest life forms on earth. How can I get an operational well in this shale steeped ancient ocean bed? And ideas of how I would be able to obtain ground water, collect it and use it?

  • You did not mention water quality. I saw you drink water straight from the pump. Have you had the water tested for pollutants, microbes? You are building a fantastic setup there in SC - 157 videos and I have watched the lot - and learned from most.

  • @Myrmecia yes our water is great quality and no problem with any pollutants.

  • @southernprepper1 NSN 6260-01-247-2937

  • how much would you charge to install two in santa maria CA

  • Indeed!

  • Could you hook the hand pump up to pvc using a custom made stand? I have a stream about 30' from our house that is on city water. My idea is to have the pvc on hand with a custom stand for a hand pump. If needed, I could lay the pvc down to the stream and then pump up to the house instead of walking with buckets. Great setup and video.

  • Also we need a video on how to actually build and install one of these.

  • Unless that Fukushima falllout seeps into the aquifer. Then you've got a problem.

  • Thats an awesome pump! My fauther inlaw could definanlty use that on his retreat! his well is 200ft deep and he only has and electric pump... can you email me some more info so I can get it to him please? I would also love to see what you guys have for oxygen perparedness. you know the rule of 3... 3mins with now oxygen, 3 days no water, 3 weeks no food. Thanks for all you guys do!

  • remember that something needs to be pumped into the underground water supply so that as water is removed the hole is filled to prevent a cave in if large amounts of water are taken out.

  • Yes a video response to my scenario would be awesome sir sorry about having to post my response here but my phone email is not compatable with youtube

  • @billrustypickles no problem...looking forward to answering your questions with a video.

  • how far do u all go to put in pumps

  • props for doing the full disclosure at 0:48, I wish more business people would do that sort of thing.

  • Probably one the coolest and smartest person i can think of. dead serious.

  • What time will be a good time to call?

  • @rgirl47 right now if you can or tomorrow

  • I am in alabama about 10 hours from you...do you install out of town? I have a well that still has the power motor hooked up to it...it has not been used in years since they finally came with city water...I would love to just have the motor taken off and one of the hand pumps put on...can you do the job? and if so...how much?

  • Great set-up,but no well is 100% safe if you can't control the source.. great job

  • @fishstick1978 so sadly true about lack of control of the source - I count on my dehumidifier and a filter - course you need a solar panel just in case to power the dehumidifier-

  • @morningmayan I'm on a well here living in the coal region of PA. Most people in town don't even drink there water due to all the mining that's been done around the area. Oh I should mention dam landfill that are all around us also. There are 2 springs close to my house if I need water that bad. Are they safe who knows since the source isn't controlled. It's a shitty deal I know but that's what we have to deal w/.

  • @fishstick1978 Thats is not good at all. Sorry

  • @southernprepper1 Thanks for your concern southernprepper1. Pa is just a dumping ground for all the other states that surround us. Take care and God Bless.

  • Nice

  • Great vid and great advice. Thanks for the video and I sincerely hope you will keep up the good work!

  • Whats the make and model of the pump, or a source I could purchase from? This is exactly what I'm looking for to complete my water source.

  • and stockpile salt, lots of salt!

  • hello southernprepper1, merry christmas. i live in canada where it freezes on and off over the winter. is this system freeze proof?? what kind of pump would i need to be freeze proof?? thanks for your time, god bless...

  • @NovaPrepper People that live where its cold use a pitless adapter and this is where the water comes out the side of the casing about 4 feet down so it doesnt freeze and yes a well guy can simple install it this way and its freeze proof. You can also install it like I did because the last piece of pipe has a 1/16 inch hole 4 feet down so it will weep out and not freeze. There will be no water to freeeze because it drains back into the well. There are other things you can do also.

  • for your next video are you able to do one about sniper rifles?

  • usgs.gov

  • Check your own region for groundwater availability - National Aquifer Code Reference List

  • what about chemtrails? maybe you should still filter it but it good you have a well. scalar radar and haarp could mean no rain for raincatching. great setup. i'd like to see more vids about self sustainability in terms of energy. solar, wind, water. panels, batteries, generators.

  • @66sicksfishstix Yes that is my goal to be more self reliant and able to take care of my family. There is something about being in direct control of the basic needs of life. Life today is so complicated and we are so far removed from life it self. I guess I should have been born during the time of the pioneers where individuals charted there course and the success of it was dependent on their inner drive.

  • @66sicksfishstix This water is coming out of the aquifer and is probably the safest place you can get it from. Down deep and with a good flow dealing with the recovery rate.

  • with solar setup?
