I play clarinet and im starting basson lessons this next moday with my band director. Hopefully i can sound like that by the begining of next year. And by the way, great job
I switched to bassoon from alto sax this past concert season, and I had to teach myself how to play. So different... I definitely sound nothing like this of course XD But boy would I love to.
@razzlez101 I too, play the alto saxophone, but I switched to bassoon for concert band. The embouchure is slightly different, from the alto and there are a lot more thumb keys than the alto. Pretty much, substitute the palm keys on a saxophone for thumb keys on a bassoon. Also, the bassoon is in bass cleft (not a big deal if you've ever played piano before). The fingerings are a little ridiculous, but you'll get used to it. Good luck! :)
I played in middle school, and I was able to get first chair bassoon, between me and a high school kid, in 7th grade. I'm a sophomore now and i simply cannot afford a bassoon and are high school doesn't rent... :( I really think I could gain alot from playing

@TheBrownMosquito it did the opposite for me! im a bari sax/contra alto clarinet player, and i hate flats for those instruments. but for bassoon, i LOVE flats.
I just got my bassoon today! I play in a high school band, and I switched from clarinet to bassoon. I'm not very good. It is so confusing going from treble clef to bass clef! And it is such a big instrument...
It is really good! I play a plastic student bassoon in band and sound horrible! Like a dying duck trying to fly. I would love to play contrabassoon! I wish I could play half as good as you!
@MonkeyMan125431 But you can play it? You just need t pratice (maybe a lot) If you really want to be good at playing the Bassoon you can be good at it :)
Ok, where were the beautiful bassoonists when I was in college? I spent years on that instrument and not once did I....well there was the floutist, the clarinetist and the diva, but besides that not once did I meet a beautiful fellow bassoonist.
Mmmmm~ This is beautiful and does the bassoon good! I play the bassoon in band class and it can be very annoying and challenging at times, especially with braces, but this makes it seem worth it so i will march on! Still a bit indecisive about what i wanna play though, Piano, Bassoon, Clarinet, and i would like to give the Oboe a shot but I have never played one b4 :-/ Well Tchao~
I have a quick question.. Is that wood or plastic? I mean it looks shiny but idk. I never knew wood bassoons are so expensive!! They go up to like 30,000usd? Wow.. I also heard that if the player is really good you can't tell a difference... I'd love for some input about the instrument. Thanks!
@ExternalGod maybe I can answer your question for you. Looks like she's playing a wooden bassoon. Wooden bassoons sound better than plastic ones so if you plan to perform on a professional level, I would buy a wood one. Even i you're really good, the plastic bassoons won't sound as good as the wooden ones You can find some great used wooden bassoons for under $4,000. Only the brand spanking new ones run up to $30,000.
@greenraptor333 No, don't be offended. I didn't mean to put your instrument down, I myself play cello, try to show that off in front of teenage friends. What I meant was her face stopped looking pretty when she started playing.

circular breathe! I play a didjeridu, I played a clarinet for 10 years, these western wind instruments are so much easier to learn in practice, try playing a didge, holy shit you'll be out of your element ;)
This is what made me want to start playing the bassoon. But I sound like a dying duck fart, and every time I listen to this I make myself go and practice. She's amazing. [:
@vjyfd6 sometimes it's not your fault you sound like a duck farting lol. but a wooden bassoon sounds better than a plastic bassoon. i didn't believe that until I auditioned for Texas state band, and all the bassoonists with wooden bassoons had better tone than me. Reeds are also a big thing. A big thing too is how you blow into the reed.
@FA22raptero If you know what i mean; sorry its a little confusing but if you play an instrument, if ur actually really good it should pick up on your breath & so it wuldnt sound the same when others play it. but it could just be for the indian love flute because its made of pure wood.
@FA22raptero if you are a very good bassoon player (same goes for other instruments) you can make other instruments work too; even if some of the other notes dont play on the instrument, you can just hear the tone & quality of each note if you are actually a great player. but in order to be a great player.. you need to understand the instrument. also just like my indian love flute; other ppl cant get the same tone because the instruements DOES play better when its your breath & air going into it

Makes me miss my bassoon. I never played this well though!!! If you like this, there's a cool bassoon solo before the song "Battery" by Metallica on their S&M album.
This is the kind of thing that inspires me to get up off lazy bottom and practice, because I know that if I do, someday I might be nearly as good at bassoon as her.

Makes me miss my bassoon. I never played this well though!!! If you like this, there's a cool bassoon solo before the song "Battery" by Metallica on their S&M album.
