  • That compass... I saw that episode yesterday, and now seeing that compass makes me really sad.

    "Please save Yuri"

  • my best anime.

  • The science in this show is so good that it pains me to think your average person either appreciates Naruto more than this show, or thinks it's in any way similar.

  • This is like a slice of life Sci fi show set in the future . I really like the concepts and ideas behind this one, all the stuff in here can actually be possible

  • Carl Sagan said Planetes it means Wanderers in Greek..

  • I really like how throughout the series different parts of the opening changes. Every episode I try look for something thats different.

  • Great sci-fi series. The fact that it's anime is pretty much incidental.

  • @argebarse what do you mean?

  • @LevaniaDaemon A roundabout way of saying that I'm not really an anime fan, and I only really got into it because I'm a huge sci-fi geek and I was looking for something new.

  • Anime can't get much more epic than this series did.

  • Greatest anime ever.

  • Pueblo Errante. Una obra maestra

  • good opening

  • 0:35

    That's wrong. It's a Gemini, not a Mercury. Otherwise a good opening.

  • In ancient greek H was a E not a I as modern greek. Im Philologist in ancient greek and latin.

  • I read that PLANETES is Greek for "wanderers." It's what the Greeks called stars because they seemed to move throughout the year.

  • Correction: I later read that "PLANETES" is Greek for "wanderer" (singular) and it's what the Greeks called the visible planets.

  • I think it means wonderers or something like that when you translate it, presumably the creators thought it would be cool to use Greek...

  • @RyuuguuOyashiro It's the author being a big clever. Planetes is greek for wanderers, which is of course the source for the word Planets, but also refers to all the characters in the show.

  • @RyuuguuOyashiro Indeed, it means those that wonder all over the place :P

Same as aeroplane in greek. the thing that wonders around in the air.

  • @RyuuguuOyashiro it means wanderers right? that's what the greek word planet means, wanderer. It's named that cuz the early astronomers noticed that these "special type of stars" actually moves across the sky, like the morning star, planet Venus.

Always thought that was cool that the anime creators titled this Planetes... Wanderers of space.

  • @RyuuguuOyashiro Planets were called wanderers by the Greek because their paths were different of that of stars, it seemed like they were wandering in the sky.

  • Why is PLANITES in Greek?

If I translate the Greek alphabet it says:

    P L A N I/H T E S

    instead of: P L A N E T E S.
