The good news is that the new RS3 will have a 5 cylinder engine. (Yeee haa.)

The bad news is it has only 340bhp and not the 1200+bhp this beast of a thing has. 

The new RS3 engine has that same 5 cylinder note witch I think is one of if not thee best sounding engine of all time.

a manufacturer always has to make an engine durable enough to do at the very least i'd say 100k-miles and more troublefree so it's just not possible for a manufacturer to make such a little engine so powerful for selling the car...

@purpleGoAhead Well obviously!! I am just saying it would be class if it was possible. Obviously these engines need a rebuild every race or two as there are right on the limit of what the engine block, cam. crank, valves etc etc can take. Thats why so many when kicking out so much power go BANG sitting at the start lights when the lights go green. But I wold settle for 450bhp out of the RS3 which is a lot and it would be reliable.

@jmbeventphotography well said man! 450hp will be possible, but they also need to keep room left for improvements and more power on models to come... otherwise nobody will buy one, if it's not more powerful than an older version... btw. thanks for putting this here, without you i wouldn't even know about an RS3 :)

@Adasiek9595 Shift linkage is what connects the shifter to the transmission. So when you move the shifter between gears, the gears will change. Usually the S4/S2's have cable shift linkage but most race cars use "Rod" shift linkage. A lot less play and its more accurate but not as smooth.

Dahlback, who built the Carbon Destroyer S2 have a Golf mk4 with Audi 5cyl and running gear, which can make near to the power of this. Either way Jonus rules the roost !

Now Audi "CarbonDestroyer" have 1100+hp and finally he replaced stock gearbox with new.

Best time in 2009 was 9,7 (with bad track).

@ClassicDragRace yea but his best time is 9.64 or9.69 sec @ 1/4mile.. this was in denmark.. very bad time for that amount of HP.. the street record in Norway belongs to VS (vidar strand) 9.41sec. bmw m5 with around 1300hp engine.. and a old c5 corvette with 1000rwhp and 1650Nm have the third place i think 9.51sec @241kph..
