There isn't 64 noises, he doesn't use all the buttons and the bottom right one is a stop button. But still this is the best I've ever heard anyone play a lunchbox, pure skills . Thanks for the upload :)
Did you know that around 25,000 people watched this video at V festival in Chelmsford this year, it played during the intervals over the course of the weekend.....
Edison and Egadz stayed at my house in Missoula, Montana when they came through in the winter of 2009!! hahaha these guys are the shit and are awesome as hell!!!
edison is the shit. he stayed at my house when he came to missoula with Egadz!!! hahaha my friend puked in front of the two of them!!! hahahahahahaa........
so the buttons are preset to what he wants them to sound like, u memorize them or have certain sounds next to each other like a piano and have at it, piece of cake!
@Maremoskri90 depends on your(taktkänsla)..... swedish for...like... sense for rhythm... anyway,
edison runs ableton and i guess he goes with 1/16 quantize, so clcikin the buttons is not the problem... the hard part is to memorize what clip is gonna start, and if u dont improvise, you have got to remember what is goin in where and that typa stuff. But i would say maybe 1-2 yrs. The hard part is finding samples and understanding ableton(or your preferd DAW)
@Maremoskri90 I talked to Derek from Pretty Lights (runs the monome) at a show once, he was just hanging out at the bar during the opening act. He said it took him over 13 freaking years to get good at what he does. It's not easy and it takes dedication. Practice, practice, practice, and don't fall into drugs. Keep your eye on the prize.
the music is hot, and i really like how simple this video is. the subtle camera movement in the top frame, the static bottom. the light effects in the background creating that depth perception. just wish this were as high-res as the version on vimeo!
This is better than what some people spend hours on in expensive studios trying replicate. This is music in almost its purest form. From the mind straight to the speakers.
Just goes to show what you can do with dedication and practice. How does the Monome stack up against the mpd24 or tenori-on? It seems like the Monome triggers the sounds on release of the pads as opposed to triggering when you press down.
which is sortof strange when you think about it caus, most people are off the beat as in after the beat, making the sound after you release would mean you would have to be before the beat...
@i2ivis im prety sure its just the way you have to realy pronounce the way you move you're hands ive seen people talking about it before but yea it is wierd
Yeah you're right. He DEFINITELY is pressing the buttons. The jerk is just him pressing them forcefully. Even I do it when I'm cueing on my laptop (maybe I'm copying Daedelus?)
@i2ivis it's not so much that the monome triggers the sound on release of the pads. if you held the pad down, the sound would still be triggered. i think the reason you see folks like Daedelus doing those flung back gestures is because there's a slight (milliseconds) lag that makes it more convenient for the user to time his/herself to the pad releases as opposed to presses. assuming he/she is pressing/releasing very, very quickly.
@i2ivis what your saying about triggering the samples is all in the software, you can edit it to do whatever you want, nothing to do with the hardware :)
@invasionfilms That may be true in most cases when some is using Ableton or the like, but he uses One-Shot samples so there's a lot to be said about the technique. He's got that Daedalus style, where the hands rest near the pads and are pulled away as they are pressed.
@i2ivis nope it triggers on press its just the way edison moves his hands
as for comparing to tenori-on its a compleatly different instrument this has no inbuilt anything its just a blank box full of buttons all the programs and sampling instruments are built in max/msp or other programming utilities making the scope for its uses practically limitless, although music is but one application the monome could be applied to
@i2ivis you can set the pads to either on the mpc or mpd. to play only while youre holding the button,, , or just hit it once and it can play a whole song. peace
