  • i have that too BUT my skin is very smooth because i made a coffee scrub with shea butter and other natural oils i lay in the tub in warm water almost hot for 30 mins after i shower them scrub my legs for 15-30 mins my skin became amazingly soft after the 1st use i can't keep my hands off my leg! i was actually trying that scrub for cellulite but it softened my skin like crazy i dont even moisterize after i rinse it off

  • many chicks have approached me but i have turned them down because i have this horrible disease ;'-(

  • I have an extremelly severe case of it, it's all over my arms + lower arms too, this is so embarrassing and I hate it. I would rather wear a sweater 24/7 than deal with this.

  • i have kp as well as eczema it really sucks

  • I have this on my arms, back and legs - when I went to Barbadoes for a week and soaked in the ocean on and off all day - I noticed the roughness was gone all over my body - the bumps were there but less noticeable. I have heard that people go to the Dead Sea to soak for a month to aleviate worse skin conditions and get results. My father-in-law has some kind of skin rash that cleared up after staying in Italy for two months he even looks younger. I think it worsens with cold climate personally.

  • I have noticed the same thing. I get even better results if I lie down and rub around in the sand where the water is shallow. Funny image I know, but it works.

  • i have this on the back of my arms and front of my thighs and a little bit on my face. i have light brown skin and the KP is really red. im 15 and iv had it for as long as i can remember and im not afraid to wear short sleeves as people hardly notice it and if they do they just ask "what happened to ur arms?" and i say "nothing i was just born like this" and they just accept it and move on :)

  • Well I wear shorts and short sleeved t-shirt any ways, but it would be nice if I had nice smooth skin for my boyfriend to touch (if i had one). :P But seriously having KP is sooo annoying! It feels so grossssss!

  • welcome to the club!! DR's can be a real assholes sometimes, i still waiting for my kp to go away after 10 years.

  • mine is spreading too. :( Don't worry, they said it goes aways some. I am going to try the over the counter treatment they have for it. I tried some lotion before from avon, bump minimizer and it actually lessen the amount and shrunk the bumps some. Also I tried some sugar scrub with oils to keep my arms moisterized and it helped too.

  • This video makes it seem a lot worse than it is.

I have a pretty bad case of it,

    & i don't think of it as a DISORDER,

    it's a skin condition. O.o

  • keratosis is the reason I hate going to gym class

  • yeahhh!!! i totally understand you!!!

  • I have a question. If the...bumps are more spaced apart does it still mean I could have this disorder?I only have it on my upper arms and I don't know if it is just acne, but I've have had these bumps ever since I was 9 or 10 years old. Please respond.

  • its KP. no doubt.

  • yeah. its just havent spread around yet.

  • The doctors had said my KP had happened due to the stress of my parent's custody battle when I was eight. Do you think this can be true?

  • It's probably possible.

I have it, it's also hereditary,

i got it from my mom.

    l:

  • i went 2 ur blog.. i wanna know if u had good results....

  • Comment removed

  • It's not a disorder at all, just a different type of skin. So many people have it. It doesn't have any negative effects on health, so I don't see why you should be concerned.

I was born with really pale skin. Is it a disorder? No. That's the way I was born.

  • The only reason I called it a disorder is because it is in the video title. I have removed my comment so others don't get the wrong idea.

  • I have this on my hands and arms and I HATe them but thank god they atleast disappear when im out in the sun but AS soon as I go back inside the flat little purplish blackish dots reappear my sister had it too but she started putting this moisterizer on her legs and arms everyday and they have completely disappeared

im on day 2 for doing this lets see how it works :)

  • i have it on my arms and my friends always ask me what it is and i would look at my arm and say i dont know. I always thought that it was from being out in the sun alot and weight lifting.

  • Man.... ive had this condition since i can remember, and i just like to see them dissapear overnight, and i hope REAL treatments comes soon. I find loofa or bath sponge, with exfoliating like micro beads shampoo making the plugges less visable and i think mild peeling agents can help too, but there's no miracle yet. So try your best finding treatments and dont give up.

  • this is a great video. i've had KP for several years now, all over my arms and on my thighs. unfortunately, i have a lot of scarring and discoloration on my arms now from KP, so it doesn't look like most cases of it. i still refuse to wear shorts, because i can't shave my thighs due to the bumps, but i've decided to stop caring about my arms. i wear short sleeves and still feel pretty confident.

anyway, i really enjoyed this video.

  • Everyone in here acts as if it is sooo terrible and as if it's so hard to live with.

I have had KP all my life. Of course: i'd love to have a smooth and pretty skin, but I just wear short-sleeved shirts and short pants. I got it on my arms, legs and cheeks. This is to all people with KP: just ignore it!! Wear what you want. People barely notice it and if they do: they don't care!! Take care! ;)

  • I agree... I have a severe neuro disability AND quite bad keratosis.. I know which one I find easier to live with... the sun helps keratosis but its a bad idea to up your exposure to UV for the sake of getting rid of it. karatosis doesnt look pretty but it doesnt put you in a wheelchair or cut your life short. I think some perspective is needed here as you say...

  • unfortunately modern day youth arent so respectful and tend to point out minor differences and tend to tease or bully them. I for one have been trying to ignore them but sometimes are pointed out to me

thank you for your confidence and enthusiasm

  • good for you, and you are right

but maybe its more dificult to other people to cope with this because there is too much social presure for perfection

its just not ease to get free of all that crap!

  • Do you ever find that literally straight after you put moisturizer on yourself it disappears then comes back a minute later? It really annoys me, as when I put cream on my skin looks so much better (You can hardly see the bumps) then it will just come back after a moment of happiness :"(

I literally -HATE- it, infact, hate isn't the word.

  • when i went italy i had a nice tan and found it made a big diffrence to the keratosis pilaris

    X

  • NOOOOO!! I dont wanna keep the chicken skin forevuh!! There has to be a curee!!!! T.T Im gonna cry....

  • yeahh!!! only god knows how much i cried for this shit, i hope i could put a swimsuit without feeling self conscious.

  • I've had kp for 5 years now. It's all over my legs and on the backs of my arms. I've tried so many things to get rid of it. Somethings help but nothing makes my skin look normal.

Recently I have been using a steam facail on my legs and arms 3 times a week. exfoliate everytime i shower and put lotion on 2 times a day. this has really help alot. I suggest doing this.

  • I thought it was something you are born with... I have had it all my life and another girl I know, who has the same "disorder" was born with it too.

  • omg everything everyone is saying is crazy we're all going through the same thing with people saying stupid insensative shit about our skin. I have kp on my arms, legs, cheeks and worst of all above lip and im a girl so its pretty much the worst case senario. a boy in school said to me when i was little that it looked like a had a mustash and i wanted 2 kill myself haha. there r so many websites if u just google that will help u find all kinds of stuff on kp so ur not alone. good luck everyone!

  • I used to be teased about my KP too as kids thought I had an AIDS related skin disorder and called me "AIDS baby!". I was homeschooled through seventh and twelfth grade due to the teasing about my appearance, and also the school being so crime ridden. I'm fortunate that my skin has been slowly clearing up as I get older.

  • I went to Thailand last summer and my KP went away. Perhaps it was the weather...humid and hot. Then, I came back to the US and they came back.. :(

  • Pinkpolkadots17: I found the same thing when I went to Barbadoes and soaked in the ocean - also I have heard the Dead Sea is good because it's saline level is way higher than the ocean's level. My skin renewed somewhat and felt smoother and nicer to touch - KP is nasty in the winter I find.

  • me 2! im 16 also all in my upper arms,

  • same here

  • treated to minimize symptoms but uncurable. mine is worst especially cold weather.. i use AHA lotions to soften bumps.. lactic acid for wash.. and major medication for this is SALICYLIC ACID its cheap (dont buy expensive creams) that medication is KERATOLYTIC (killing keratin) this is topical one.

  • i got this and it dosent itch or get irritated in any way. cant even feel it. and it is a slightly bad case. anabolic steroids are best to treat the disorder, but what doctor is gonna prescribe it to you just for that? the other best thing is just intense dry skin creams, but that only smoothens it out and dosent get rid of the redness. answer-anabolic steroids. prefferably in the lotion form.

  • Does wearing make-up worsen the condition?

Does excessive esposure to sunlight worsen it?

  • i have it and i live in florida and during the summer i go to the beach a lot and drink a lot of water and the tanner i get and more i eat right the less i see of the KP. also put lotion on it right after you shower. it helps a lot. just eat healthy and keep it moisturized :D

  • thanks:-)

  • i use a face mask called "mask of magnaminty" from lush and then moisturize. it seems to helping a bit.

  • I have keratosis pilaris. My doctor misdiagnosed me with eczema. My very bad had has been to pick at the little polka dots--they itch from time to time.

  • use glycolic acid with strong percent or Sea Buckthorn i hear

  • It makes you very self conscious to get intimate. Made gym a bitch to go to as well.

  • i feel you bro. made me hesitate to make the first move on my girlfriend.

  • i have this condition and when i consulted my parents they used to say (and still do!) "...that's because you're dirty. Go have a bath." T_T

    lol

  • My parents did the same!

  • Keratosis pilaris is caused by a protein in the skin called keratin which surrounds hair follicles on the skin. moisturising creams can be used to cover the affected area. You could use Kenalog cream which is applied every couple of days, or there are variuos topical ointments avaiable. Although, its always to best to see a dermatologist first though.

  • I have severe KP... It is so dense on my arms, and it has now spread to my legs. The dermatologist prescribed me different creams but nothing works. DO NOT exfoliate it, just moisturize. I think I heard that if you take omega pills and eat more flax seeds? - that it might help.

  • fuck genetics! fuck genetics! fuck genetics!

  • @dmix09 My parents both had basically perfect skin, yet my face is completely fucked up :(

  • Is there a difference between Keratosis Pilaris and Hyperkeratosis Pilaris?

  • I've had this problem all my life, I get it mostly on my arms and legs and bottom (lol!) I find Bio Oil is really good cause it moisturises and reduces the redness so it looks and feels a lot better now than it used to.

  • yeah!! this shit pisses me off ive had this bull shit eversince i can remember and its embarrasing i cant do anything that involves showing my legs these bumps piss me the fuck off i realy hope ts treatable i thought they were all like infected hairs couse they pop and there almost liek black heads but there not i dont even know they just make me so mad i hate them fuck this diseaies but thank you for filling me in ive been clueless for years

  • I just diagnosed myself today. i've had it for a few years. In my opinion a treatment is curing the condition. so im gonna go ahead and say there is a cure. =]

  • Heya You Posted A Comment Saying Theres A Cure For Keratosis Pilaris What Is It Ibe had this since i was like 12 and i want to get rid of it as i model x

  • i have it and its really unfair because i have quite dark hair and fair skin so i personally think it sticks out i have it on my cheeks and it is like a pink blush...everyone says it looks normal and temperature affects it ...the doctors say that it almost always improves or dissapears with age..so if anyone has any advice for me that would be great..coz im so freaking out about it..remember i live in england coz i think alot of people who comment live in america...thankyou.

  • I just got diagnosed today...I just went in for a routine check up and my doctor told me...oh, and I live in Florida...so how am I going to stay out of the sun...lol.

  • This lotion called Amlactin works for me. Its in like a 16 ounce bottle at Fred Meyer or Walmart for about 16 dollars in the lotion aisle. My bottle lasted for like a year. You could ask the pharmacist more information on it.

  • Omg this stuff is awesome!! I have gum disease and I bleed alot when I'm brushing my teeth, I just rinsed my mouth and brushed my teeth, I didn't bleed!!

  • I have it on my legs, my arms....people ask me what is that?? do you have a disease I hate it!! I found a website, a lady starting oil pulling and 99% is gone! I baught unrefined sesame oil from a health food store, I'm doing it right now. It's recommended to do alteast 15-20 mins. I'm excited!!

  • oil pulling does work for many but do not expect your keratosis pilaris to be gone after 20 minutes of oil pulling hehe. You might see improvements in 2-4 weeks or more.

  • I know it's not going to be gone in 20 mins and I never said it will, it's a 20 min process everyday, sometimes i'll do it twice a day. I've been doing it for a week now and half of it's gone =)

  • Whats Oil Pulling For Keratosis Pilaris I HAVE IT =[ x

  • What Oil Is It Please For The Keratosis Pilaris I Got It Please Help x

  • I diagnosed mine myself. Even though I'd had these horrible little spots on my underarms, upper arms and thighs since I was about 12 (23 now), my doc has only tried fungal remedies. How could it be fungal and last for over 10 years! So I looked up on the internet loads of search terms for red bumpy spots and I found KP. Its exatly what I have. The best thing for me is Johnson's 24 hr moisture (its in a pink bottle and smells lovely too!) Gone smoother in 2 months but the spots r here 2 stay

  • haha. I got fed up with people asking me what it was so i went on the net and found a blog about it and diagnosed myself too =]

  • i used Dermadoctor KP Duty.thats prob the best stuff.its kinda expensive but its worth it!now i just use salicylic acid to keep it smooth.DONT EXFOLIATE!! like in the shower bc it inflames it more. also, (if you need a quick fix for redness)use a leg makeup (like Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs)i know its for legs but i wntd to try it on my upper arms where i have KP..it looked great.. no redness! yay!(and its shimmery haha)The good news? i heard that as you get older, the KP will calm down. happnd4me

  • I have it and I absolutely hate it. It isnt a bad case though. My doctor gaveme some sort of sticky lotion and I hate it. Anyone know anything that works well? Thanks

  • bathing with mustard oil helps alot, it smoothes out alot but you can still see it cos it turns from red to brown, but what i did was i covered it with a few tatoos, the down side to this is that mustard oil smells like absolute shit, and you gotta breathe through your mouth when your using it, otherwise you'll probably end up puking

  • OMG i got it from my dad too

I have it to its SOO ANNOYIINGG

and i have the case where its on my

face too...people think I have acne on my face when really I don't it's just the stupid keratosis...and my cheeks look pink!

  • omg i have the same problem ..does yours change in temperature too. like if it gets really hot its more noticable..

  • No cure?!

    Gah.

    I hate my legs.

  • i am sufferer myself. Its been emotionally scaring. I remember i went to a party in lake havasu city and i was wearing a bathing suit, it was outside.. I put a spray foundation from sally hansen all over my legs. Then my worst nightmare, A skinny, beautiful, smooth skinned with no body hair, little bitch says to me, "it looks like you have holes in your legs, what the hell?" lovely eh? not only do i have kp i have really thick coarse leg hair so when i shave its like a revolving door.

  • I have that :(

I can't even stand to wear a bathing suit. And the worst is when people brush against my arms and make comments : \

They need to invent some miracle cure already cause it really does affect people more than just in a physical sense. And yes, it makes shaving a total nightmare as well...

  • god i just turned 12 and i had it from age 10, i hate when they brush by me 2

  • Yea, im 14 now and I've had KP since i was 10 or 11 and i play basketball so when we're in our jerseys it really shows.

  • Hi I know what you're going through, people do that to me too, I've been oil pulling for a week now and I see a bigggg improvement already...you should try it =)

  • ooo what kind of oil?

If it just softens the skin, then that never seems to last long with me. Because of the keratosis, the pores on my skin are like, plugged so they need some type of like, deep exfoliation it seems :(

it's annoying and on my thighs where i'm not all that tanned it shows as like, a bunch of little red dots and if they get picked at the bleed and then just scar and scab...

    bleh lol

  • wait...haha what's oil pulling?

  • What oil do you get for the keratosis pilaris ? I Have it i need help x

  • sorry for the late reply, I use sesame oil from whole foods market or natural health food store. It's not toasted sesame seed oil, you can google it.

  • dont worry im sure she will get what is coming to her lol..she'll probably end up marrying someone who is goodlooking then she will think she can let herself go and end up looking like a beached whale with a wig on whilst you look normal and ordinary. hope that little scenario helps..

  • a good treatment is applying coconut oil to the afected area.....it can even prevent the return of the keratosis permentally.

[i just read off of wikipedia]

  • I heard sugar cubes work do lnow anything about that by any chance as a cure?

  • I also read about coconut oil on wikipedia. My sister and I have been using it for a week in the shower and it's been great. My skin is a lot softer and well hydrated.

  • It's nice that you have talked about this. I have found a much easier way to deal with KP...SULFUR. If you usea soap and/or lotion that hs sulfur it may do you wonders.

***WARNING*** Some people are sensitive or even allergic to sulfur. Test on a very small area at first.

All of the women in my family suffur from this (since it is genetic) and a good sulfur soap has made all the difference.

    Good Luck!

  • I have been suffering with this for years and i don't know any treatments, apparently i inherited from my father, Thanks for posting this awreness video!

  • ME TOO! THANKS DAD! LOL

  • lol i got it from my mom
