i never do burnout when drag racing... theres no point!!!! any factory length street bike under 500lbs will wheelie long before spinning the back tire. unless its wet out, but then the track will be closed. if you can spin your back tire when its dry out your tire is too old and unsafe.
@richardjburke That's not completely true. I can tell you first hand my rear wheel was spinning and my tire was in excellent shape. The track is usually slicker at the start than most city pavement without any adhesive being used. It was a run what you brung event so they weren't cleaning the track every single run either. If it was at a stop light on a regular road with clean pavement, then ya, it won't spin and it will wheelie instead!
@alaskairhog When I bought my 919 I could lean forward hammer the gas an smoke the tire! I was told by the guy I got the bike from that the tire was only a month old. When I told this to the bike shop, they told me they always have tires on the shelf that have been there for years and they sell them to people that dont have much money. there safe for normal riding but due to age there get harder an dont preform. ask your local bike shop to check the date on your tire! Tread doesn't mean good!
It was my first time running a motorcycle down a track. Tire was cold as I am not comfortable doing burn outs nor did I want to waste the tire on a street bike. It was just a run for fun. Not trying to impress anyone. Thanks for watching
Yup. I didn't warm up the tire at all. The track and air temps were cold at thise point in the day. It was slick to say the least. It was just a run what you brung so it was for fun.
your right, i took my 919 to the track a couple of weeks ago and ran 11.4 sec at 120 mph. im in the south, LA, with warmer temp's i got better track conditions. it was either come up in the later part of first or ride it out and spin second, but my hard tire dont help that either
Just slip on exhaust, nothing else. It's a slow run since the track was cold and didn't do a burn out. My rear wheel was spinning through 1st and 2nd gear. If I learned to launch and warmed up the tire I'm sure it would be much better. I just sold the bike though, have an Aprilia Tuono now.
No shit. I have a 06 919 that i have put 25k miles on since new and have been itching for a new tuono factory. It is coming soon, love that italian v-twin sound with acropovic pipes, just a nice step up in every category, chassis, suspension, brakes, power! What year do you have, how do you like it? The new ducati streetfighter is going to be sick!

You probably take it for granted but that is some awesome scenery for a dragstrip. All we have to look at is corn at our strips.
