@demigawd Uh, no. The guy just had successful heart surgery last week: "Bruno Sammartino, 75, just had surgery to replace deteriorated heart valves. According to a statement by Sal Corrente, who works with Sammartino, he said the rehabilitation period would be about three months but that he is expected to have a full recovery and when all is said and done, because of all the training he has done during his life, he should have the heart of a 40-year-old when he is finished with recovery."
Awesome! I was SO excited when Bruno was featured on this show. I was a 10 yr old wrestling fan and this was wrestling's "serious" phase and Bruno truly sold Pro Wrestling as a real sport then. He really made u take it serious! Great guy too! Met him a few yrs ago.
Bruno was a true champion. I met him when I was about 13 at one of his bouts near Pittsburgh. He was a lot shorter than I expected, but very powerfully built. There wasn't much entertainment back then and it was a treat to watch this man wrestle.
I remember back in 85 or 86 Bruno teamed up with Hogan in Baltimore to do battle with Piper and Orton... Bruno got as big a pop as the Hulkster and it really made me realize how great he must have been before my time.
One the greatest wrestler who ever lived. Bruno was my hero when I was growning up. I always admired him and what he did for wrestling. I would go to all of his matches when he wrestled in the area.
Bruno clearly took steroids don't fool yourself and believe steroids are something new to sports. Look at the size of his noggin, Bruno clearly lifted weight and juiced up. Steroids were raw back in those days and guys never knew what they were injecting themselves; with. No way his head is shaped like this Mw/out long term use of steroids. You need to talk to a Dr. that is versed in steroid abuse and long term use & they will tell you that clearly he took Steroids. He's admitted to them as well.
These Wrestlers "wrasslers" could not handle a 185 fighter of today. A top 185 Jiu Jitsu champ would choke a chump like Bruno out, his days has passed, look at how FAT Bruno was around the mid section he couldn't have lasted 5 minutes with Anderson Silva or Dan Henderson. I bet I could have choked this chump out,
I only wish Bruno was in his prime so I could have schooled him. When he was trying to put the chicken wing on me I would be taking him down & putting him in an arm bar and snapping his elbow or choking him out. I would have loved to face some of these really old time wrestlers who they said would break your fingers or arm. I would pummel any one of those old men if they were in their prime. I am bigger, much stronger and in better shape and would have easily defeated any of them and hurt them.
I hope Bruno reads this! I am from Pratola Peligna right by Sulmona. My last name is Pizzoferrato and the name is common in the town because many people came to Pratola from your town of Pizzoferrato. I love eating chicoria by the way. Im sure it was different in your time, the stories are just like my father's.
@stashnut73 and @sheashea777...add me to your old-timer lifelong met fan list..seaver was my favorite and i loved rusty staub when he came to the mets..also thought mazzilli was going to be something special (dangit)..still miss kiner, murphy and nelson too..you must type in rusty staub and check out all the old mets vids here on youtube..found some great 1964 and 1975 mets vids too
It seems quite incredible now that a world heavyweight title wrestling match would be held at madison square garden as though it were no different than a boxing match. Whilst Wrestling got bigger in its own right under Vince jr, it was treated like a real sport back then
At 8:30, did Bruno "expose" the business this early? Of course, everyone has always known that the matches were scripted. Anybody with half a brain could always see that. Vince just confirmed that in the mid-90s to avoid regulation by the New York State Athletic Commission.
damn, bruno body slammed the 400 pound gorilla monsoon as if he weighed 100 pounds, amazing natual strenght. bruno was built like a gorilla, huge chest and neck, steroid free, just amazing!.
@enjoyitbro yeah he shows that YOU CAN work your ass off and get that strong.and well mabey born with great nautral strength helps.but working your ass off in the gym does make you this big and strong
I did like when champions retained their belts and title changes were a big event. Today titles change hands so often that its no big deal when one happens. I did see Bruno wrestle live quite a few times and he was loved and adored by the crowd. The man had charisma and that went a long way. Bruno was not the greatest wrestler but he may have been the most loved wrestler..
Bruno refuses. Who knows maybe when he's dead. Poor guy, now he's in his 80s. He hates Vince McMahon Jr. for turning it into the trash it is today. He hates steroid abuse/scandals. He's on the Kurt Angle DVD.
Honkey Tonk man says that's the real Vince McMahon kiss my ass club.
I wonder how vinces dad would feel about him today, vince sr mad alot of money with bruno, Bruno was vince sr's hulk hogan or stone cold....and vinny jr brushes bruno off, shame on vinny jr
I believe the year for this documentary was 1979; this was when Bruno's days as champion was over, but was still very popular and could still sellout arenas!

Bruno just now passed away today. He'll be missed as one of the last class acts in a sport that went on to become a corrupt institution.
