Loads of phenomenal shows get cancelled early. When something goes wrong on the management (budget, time slot) or marketing side (reaching the right demographic, enough exposure) that has nothing to do with the quality of a creative product.

I take my sci-fi exceptionally seriously, and I don't waste my time with anything with a particularly short half-life unless it is so phenomenally exceptional, single episodes are nothing less than genius. Firefly does very little which I haven't seen before elsewhere, and I see absolutely no point in becoming emotionally invested with something if it doesn't even last for a full season, nothing good can come of that

Sure, you might have different taste than me, I enjoy Farscape but I do enjoy Firefly far more. You can't judge something that you didn't even watch, it does not matter how short it is, its awesomeness balances it out.

The emotional bond that's formed to a new show is so, so special, it's almost like falling in love, but with characters, themes, ideas and plots. For me to watch something "good" which I know doesn't last is simply opening up a can of bees. Why set yourself up for a fall? Nothing good can come of it.

The Star Trek franchise spans 21 seasons for example and I watched them all to base my judgement on real evidence. Dr Who was the same. When a sci-fi series lasts that sort of time, I watch them all and then make an assessment and Dr Who failed as both drama and sci-fi. Again, I take my sci-fi VERY seriously. Next on the list will be Babalon 5 then Stargate.
