@7DARKHELLS i remember my mom renting this for me when i was a kid in the late '80s, possibly very early '90s. i never once thought about that - the idea that they may have been trying to ride the whole freddy wave of popularity. lol but it sure makes sense. nightmare on elm st was huge in the '80s. rented those films all the time too. ;-D they had a GREAT horror movie selection at my local video store in the late '80s/early '90s. they don't make them like that anymore.

Seriously, this movie has all the elements that make it an 80's pop-corn-coated camp classic! It remains one of my favorites: it has stylised humor, female possession, mawkish winks to De Palma ( complete with locker-room nudity), and impish over-the-top death scenes that look like they've taken place in the same High School as The Breakfast club! The ending is cute, too.

First off, why didn't that blonde chick put the crown on Mary Lou right away? She was waving it behind her for a few seconds and smiling like an idiot. He just wanted to get back at her for using him earlier in the film, and he figured a stink bomb (that he found in the bathroom) would do the trick, but as you can see, he didn't count on her dress catching on fire like that, so it was simply a vengeful prank gone wrong....horribly wrong!
