  • hi

i recenty brought a samson usb mic and i am hoping to put up videos on here on youtube as i am a singer.

i have no clue how to or what to you to do so.

i have an apple mac computer. what source of recording are you useing??

im very stuck would be great for your help!!

    thanks KC x

  • @katiechancemusic Samson's web site has a video that shows how to set it up on your Mac. I'll send you a link.

  • Hi. I was wondering how d'you get your audio to be that clear without the white noise? Some videos i see on youtube still have that fuzzy sound when they record with the G track.

  • @Vlwow The G-Track is a very sensitive mic. Because of this you have to mindful of things like the fan on your computer or even ventilation ducts in the room where you record. This can be a big problem if you have the mic on a table right next to your laptop. You'll notice I'm very close to the mic. This is because I dialed down the mic's volume so that you can scarcely hear any of those other sounds.

  • @turbomonkey2k I see.. Despite that, I really do like the nice, warm sound of the mic. I might consider getting this mic. Thanks for your help :)

  • u should let me have your other one lol

  • @Dkingstickz That was a gift for my nephew, sorry :)

  • How do you get the vocals in both channels? I got this mic today and I am disappointed about it only recording in one side, vocals on left line input on right. It doesn't make much sense to me. Using iMovie.

  • @PharaohKD The G-Track is a mono-microphone, but your computer recognizes it as a 2 channel device because of the input connector on the side. You need to go into your computer's sound control panel, locate the G-Track microphone and change it to a 1 channel device.

  • Thanks turbomonkey2k - Would you happen to know the exact steps to carry out this action on the Mac? I did not see anything that provided me with such an option.

  • @PharaohKD - I found out how to make it send audio information to both sides. On the mac you have to go into Applications - Utilities - Audio Midi Setup and change the settings. Now I need to figure out how to make this thing a little louder. It seems to be low. Any thoughts?

  • @PharaohKD What about the bottom "mic" knob on the microphone itself?

  • @turbomonkey2k - Thanks but the input gain is not realy the problem. It seems that the mic is really not built for high volume. I already have the bottom knob set as high as I can set it without clipping. This mic seems to function more like a studio mic where you'd have it hook up to a mix board. With a mixboard, the user can tweak the sound a lot better, even bump up the volume. I was hoping this mic was also built for podcasting. It's still okay. Its not great. Check out my review.

  • i hav a mac, and it only allows sound to record on the left speaker. any help?

  • This mic is dope for it's low price. To hear some recordings done with the Samson G Track check out our Youtube page. You can also download our 12 track E.P. "Vibe With tha Tribe" for FREE at vibewiththatribe.bandcamp.com (better quality). The whole album was recorded using this microphone.

  • i use this mic for my tracks...

chek mi page out for quality....

  • I have this, you can also use the chords to hook your electric guitar up through the mic and connect both to your computer, this way you can use it to record not only your guitar riffs, tracks into the computer but your voice as well. only thing is its very sensitive to picking up any noises. but all in all its worth it.

  • It comes with an adapter that will let you attach it to a standard fitting that you'd find on most booms.

  • how do you remove hiss on this microphone (background noise) like on the video because that sounds insane please help thanks

  • AHH! You're the one that can help me I guess!

I have a question about the samson audio G-track and a boom stand. I don't know which boom stand you are using (?), but does the G-Track fit on an MK5-Boom stand (Samson)? I'm a bit confused abut how it would be attached to a boom stand... What I need to know is if it's possible :) Thanks!

  • i have this, and it's noisy as hell

  • @tommmmyka I've heard this before. However, in all cases that I've come across the hiss or other noise comes from either unshielded pc or surrounding components or the usb cable or soundcard. No problems with mine.

  • how do u remove the hiss on the Gtrack?

  • hello ! I have also this microphone ! But i have a question : when i record on my computer, i have a big breath which is embarrasing. Do you have any solution ? Do you use a pre-ampli ? Have you any solution to this matter ? Thanks ! (I am French)

  • the g-track has a software that comes with it but its compatible to pc not mac so i want to know if its only for pc or it could be for mac?

  • @EllenDfan123 It's USB, so it should work just fine with your mac

  • my best friend bought this mic, honestly we made a pretty dope song out of it, the onllyyy problem is that it picks up SOOOO much air.... but a few sleeping bags hanging from the roof could of helped easier

i just bought an m-audio fasttrack pro interface and it SUCKS makes no damn difference for listening to your music but for recording yes it does, im takin it back and saying fuck it im getting this g-track

  • was the sound coming from the gtrack in the beginning when you were talking?

  • Yes, I'm using the G Track in the beginning, the one on the boom. The one I'm showing to the camera is one that I bought for my nephew.

  • i have this mic....and it sounds NOTHING LIKE THE QUALITY you are projecting....

am I using the mic wrong???

  • Comment removed

  • ur mic sounds way clearer then mine

  • hi, im going to buy a microphone condenser of 99€ and I want to know if it's good for singing loud or it gets blurry?

  • It's supposed to be pretty good for singing. I don't use mine for that though.

  • Can you play an instrumental beat through the headphones as well? while singing..

  • Sure.

  • hello im using audacity to record

with the g track but it only is MONO

like ONLY sound comes out the left headset on the right only the beat

when i use the standart record that oon the pc from the start all programms etc..

    its stereo

can some tell me how to fix this ?

  • Hi, I'm looking for a new mic (I record with my built-in mic on my Macbook) but I'm not sure which one is the best...this one looks pretty awesome, could someone tell me if this one is better than the Blue Snowball mic?

  • Oh yeah, and it's especially for singing, not podcasting :)

  • I've read good things on this mic for singing. I'm sure there is better but the nice thing about this one is that it simplifies the recording process for the end user who has a computer and allows you to actually hear yourself in real time when you use a headset. Also keep an eye out for my upcoming review on the Blue Yeti USB mic.

  • There is always better, if you're in a recording studio, haha :) but you sounds really clear in the video, so I think it'll work great...can you talk loud without having a buzzing sound? I have an awful popping sound with loud parts and consonants like 'p' or 's'... anyway, I'll def check out the upcoming review, this helps me a lot :)

  • Reviews I've read from singers say you can realy howl on it. when up close like I was it is definitely sensitive to the popping. That's why I'm talking across it rather than directly into it. A technique I learned from a radio and voice over guy named Dave Graveline.

You there are other ways to mitigate that though. There is of course the pop filter, but you can also turn up the gain and stand farther back from the mic. Of course then you also need good room acoustics and a very quiet room.

  • Also, now that I know I have someone waiting for it I'll try to get that video done today.

  • i cant get mine working man on my computer am triyng to set it up on audicity it just aint picking nothing up as if its on mute anyone help

  • when i try to record with my g-track it is off timing would you know why?

  • So you the record/playback for vocals will only display on one side.

  • Hi your mic i can hear perfect!!! I have the same mic but i have a problem i hear in only one Box...why?!?!? please can you help me?

  • Anybody know how compatibile it is with Adobe Audition 1.5?

  • I've tested it with audition 3.0. as long as windows recognizes it there shouldn't be any problems though.

  • Cool. Thanks man.

  • Comment removed

  • I dont car about any of that just tell me if it records both side as soon as I plug the usb to my laptop

I need alot of tracks to be recorded lol

  • Nope. You have to do two and pan 'em. Not a huge deal but can be annoying to always have to do.

  • I comment someone who reviewed this mic and I noticed that his vocals only came from the right side of my headphones

is that how the microphone is or what??

I need to know cause if I buy it I just wasted my money for vocals that only come out of one side of speakers people hear out of??????

  • It's your software setup. This is not a stereo mic. It's capable of 2 track recording so that you can plug in an instrument such as a guitar, keyboard etc. You're setup for two track recording and the quiet side is where you would hear the instrument if you were recording one.

  • you should of used a pop filter...

  • if you add a pop filter to your next video the sound would be even better fyi...the video was great nonetheless. thanks.

  • whats the inputs for the guitar/keyboard? is it a normal headphone jack input, or guitar lead input?

  • Hi Mike, Also have a question about The USB, Some people say it wil leave some scratching on the record, because u use USB instead of the Line-in of u're computer? Do you also had that problem?? I guess not, but just want to make sure before I buy..

    Thanx Already

    Matthew

  • Hi Mike,

Finally someone who makes a clear Review about the Samson G-track. But I've still got a question, did you already try singing and the input of a instrument? And is there already a pop filter in the package? Or do you have to buy this apart?

    Hopefully you can answer it.

    Thanks alot,

    Matthew

  • thanks

  • does this mic work with windows vista?

  • Yep, and 7.

  • What model is your microphone boom? I would like to buy one, but dont know if it would be compatible with my spider mount.

    Greetings,

    Jirka

  • Your spider mount has a standard fitting, should work with just about any boom. It fits on all the booms here and I don't recall which one is in the video. They're pretty much all the same as far as fittings go.

  • Thanks.

  • I always get this hissing sound of the environment i guess... i tried recording in my storeroomw which has totally no air.BUt stilll i have the hissing problem.. why do i get such problems??

  • i think its because u are near electrical equipment, i dont have i mic myself, but i saw a video on youtube about that hissing sound

  • what did i need for this mic ?? anything about windows or mac ? please can you tell it thanks

  • Windows, Mac... it works with all that stuff. Unless you have some old OS that doesn't support USB, I guessing you won't have a problem.

  • why is thevocal distorted :S? doesnt sound so clear for me on this video o.O

  • I ordered this mic about 5 min ago , now will this work with logic express 8? thanks

  • I'm not familiar with Logic Express 8, but there's no good reason to think you wouldn't be able to use the G-Track with it. I haven't found any recording software that won't let you select it. I suppose there could be something out there that won't work but it doesn't seem likely.

  • how exactly would i approach recording a drum track? im new to this kind of stuff.

  • You don't want to use a USB condensor mic for drums, you would be better off purchasing (like I did) a drum mic package, such as a CAD 7 piece drum mic set, 1 bass drum dynamic mic, 2 overhead condensor mics, 3 tom mics and a dynamic snare mic, It cost around $170

  • do u think this w ill sound good for rapping????

  • I don't use mine for music vocals, but that really is what it was intended for so I'm betting that especially with a pop filter it would serve you very well in that application.

  • where did you get the mic stand??

  • The boom is borrowed, but you can get one similar on Amazon for around $25 to $30. The small desk stand type that I hold up is included with the mic.

  • When I recorded using Garage band.

I could hear it on my itunes when I transferred the track however when I sent the track back to the artist I was doing the song with my recording over the beat wasn't there.

You seem to have a lot of knowledge about this mic so I figured I'd see if you had any ideas about it. Thank you for your help.

    -FateThaJuggalo

  • Hi. I'm having a problem with my mic. I tried using it to record vocals for song recordings on GarageBand, but unfortunately, sounds only come out from the left side, on mono. Stereo, no sounds. Also, another problem I have: When I export the track on GarageBand, my final track has an EXTREMELY low volume. Yes, I did put the master volume on maximum. If there's a better program, what should I use? Any advice you can give me? I would VERY MUCH appreciate it.

  • Adobe Audition is MUCH better than Garageband

  • I have the same problem with GarageBand (mono). It says stereo but it's only mono :/

  • Well, I couldn't say why, but when I was on Stereo mode, I only had the left. I changed it to Mono 1 instead, now I have the left and the right.

  • Was that for GarageBand? If not, what program do you use?

  • Yes it is for GarageBand, I would prefer using Live from Ableton but it's pretty hard to use it once cracked, and I'm too poor to buy a 400$ program.

  • I have the Samson G Track and I'm trying to use it with my internet camera to make a music video but my camera won't capture the audio. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks.

  • yo how do i work this mic with cubase sx3? i cant get signal for recording

  • when i connect my samson g track micro to my windows xp and when i record, the quality is really bad. can someone help me out?

  • Be more specific, better yet, post a sample of the audio.

  • Make sure any other mic you have, builtin or othersise, is muted and that u are only using the samson for the sound input

  • I just bought one of these mics and a anti pop screen.but could you tell me what sort of stand would be good

  • It really depends on how you use the mic. if you stand up and sing into it then some sort of boom is going to be the right thing to have. on the other hand if you do a podcast or something you'll be better off with an articulating boom of some sort that will let you move it. That's also when the spider mount comes in handy as it helps isolate the mic from sounds made by the boom itself while moving it.

  • ok thanks im going to be rapping but i dont want to be standing up so i dont know.

  • I can tell you if you are a rapper you definately want to be standing up to lay down your vocals

  • that what i mean it came with this program already so if it says its corrupted is there nuthing you can do?

  • I would start by giving the folks at Samson a call. If it's a faulty disk I think they'd be only too happy to send you another. Post your findings here. I'm sure folks will want to know how it turned out.

  • can any1 help me mine wont load on the mac the mic works but the program it says is corrupted so is it the whole thing or is it just that i need to get another disk? if any1 knows plz reply cheers

  • You don't need a special program. Try using Audacity. It's an open source audio recording and editing program. It can run on Windows, Mac or Linux.

  • just bought it myself so you're getting 5 stars :D

  • OKAY please do me a favor. Can you listen to my recordings on my page and tell me what i need. I want it to sound better or at least something that'll make me sound better haha okey dokey. thanks

    Luv Jenn-

  • sam ash

  • sam ash

  • hey,i'm facing some problems with hisses in the background when i record through the mic, what am i doing wrong or what am i supposed to do here?please help me out.

  • adjust the gate

  • How About You Give It To Me :P

  • Give it To Mw :P

  • Does this have Headphone Monitoring? :D

  • what store do u buy it at?

  • I need one

  • what the hell my headset and usb mic cost 15 for the usb mic and 8 for the headset + mic an it sounds better than that

  • Suuuuure it does.

  • when you switch back to the Samson at the end there is some static that isn't present in your introduction.

  • thankyou, very helpful!

  • That must be a G-Track you're using right now!

  • Does it work for vista?

  • It sure does.

  • Hello can you help me with something

i recently purchased a g-track, the green light turn on and the usb installs, but when i try record in vista it doesnt record and the speakers aswell go.

  • read up on audio codecs and how many can run on you OS at the same time. if you are really stuck after exhausting all other options message back. ill be pissed off if its an easy fix though. DO YOUR RESESARCH!!!

  • most likely the speakers didn't go, rather the OS made the mic the primary sound device. plug a set of headphones into the mic to see if that's where the sound went. you can control the default audio output device in the Vista control panel.

  • but u need a pop filter

  • i have 1 to its very nice for recording

  • I've got one of them, myself! A great mic to have for your home recording studio

  • i followed the instructions to set up the samson g track with garageband on apple mac but when i record i can only hear my voice in the left side of my headphones. could u gt bak 2 me if you know what the problem is please would help alot! thanks....

  • check if position of the stereo/mono switch, try the other position and see how that works. you can fix the existing audio that is only on left side by mixing it down to mono. I'm not sure how you would do this in garage band, but you can do it with Audacity or Audition.

  • Please can you tell me how I can get rid of the noise ? I have even tried to power it by the usb connection on a different computer and connect the GTrack to my PC using leads to my 'line in' or 'mic in' on my PC. Still a high pitch background sound with my recordings with the GTrack ? Thank You in advance for any help You can give me. May God Bless Your New Year, from Bret

  • can you send me a sample of audio with the noise you're hearing? might help me help you a little better.

  • mine does that as well, do you think you can also help me....do you guys have background noise a bit?. My mic gain also only increases at the end. Lastly, I have a high pitched noise when I try to record and only when I try to record.

  • @Brettledotcom do you have a tv on or lights? because it could be that you got shitty electricity, sounds kinda funny saying that but when i worked audio visual its quite insane that electricity can do that to mics

  • Nice video. I was bought the Samson G-Track as a present and am really impressed with it, still learning all of it's vast features, but I was wondering if you could advise me, I want to record audio and video at the same time and I would like to know what software I can use to do this, rather than recording separate video/audio and then having to dub the two? I shall be using it for recording myself playing guitar and obviously I don't want the risk of mistiming the dubbing of my video. Thanks.

  • something to keep in mind, with a good video editor you can use sync up a separate audio recording to video done on a camcorder. that's if you want to use the G-Track. Another option might be to run a line from the g-track headphone out to an audio in on your camcorder if it has one.

  • You need a pop filter though. Ive trained my ears for years and I can tell this mic isn't all that great. Maybe for starting out but for pro audio? Don't think so.

  • notice, no popping when I'm actually using the gtrack, a little over modulation at one point, but no popping.

  • Do you know where I can get a good Stand for the g track online? I also wanted to know should I buy the shockmount to? I already have the mic But the stand that comes with it is way to short for recording. I want to buy a Microphone Pop Filter ,to which would be best for the G track?

  • you can easily make your own pop screen cheap. look around on youtube or send me a message and i'll tell you how.

  • how come it only records on da left side??and the quality is badd it doesnt record pro. i record music but is not good quality.... what can i do to make it record both sides and good quality when i record music? and if theres a waii i can noise cansell?

  • Samson GTrack vs AT 2020 which one?

  • Can you hear the instrument through the headphones. And can you also hear the instrument through the mic input on your computer through a program while still hearing your voice through the mic?

Thanks a tun your lots of help

  • Yes, you can monitor and mix an instrument via the input jack. You can hear yourself and the instrument then through the headphones.

  • But does it mix the instrument and the mic audio into one channel or into separate channels?

  • Yeah you probaly know, stand back, abit, from the Microphone. Make it face downwards. Clear your throat, Then bend the mic downwards your throat. Should produce better quality (No Ph pop noises)

  • you should consider flipping the light switch on in your future videos.

  • does it comes with a stand?

  • Yes, it comes with the table top stand that I hold up in the videpo.

  • could you help me out I am thinking about getting this mic? Do you need the software that comes with it? Does the computer see the mic as another sound card or mic? Thanks a lot your help is apriciated.

  • You don't need the software that comes with it. I usually use Audacity. Also, it sees the mic as both a set of USB Speakers and as a USB mic.

  • you should get a pop blocker :)

  • I position the mic in a way that it's not necessary. the only pop you heard in the entire vid was while I was using the headset mic.

  • 2 questions...

    1. where did you purchase this mic?

    2. do you have any special adapters attached to the mic unit itself to attach it to the boom?

  • Would the CO1U/CO3U/G-track work great with Audacity without any Drivers it comes with?

  • no reason why any of those mics shouldn't work with Audacity. Audacity is what I mainly use for audio.

  • Thanks. Then I'll probaly be purchasing the CO1U, It's for some Audio Recordings and hopefuly this should work with Speaking program similar to Skype - Ventrilo

  • Definetly getting this for Christmas (Co1u) for Podcasting, Recording (and music) Mixed with a logitech quickcam pro 9000, so the Perfect Msn video mix! ;D

  • the cable is only for computer or what??

  • Yes, it's a USB mic. It comes with cables for connecting an instrument as well for the mixing funcion, but this mic pretty much requires a computer for you to be able to use it.

  • I have the same question as before, it only records on the left side for me, and i didnt catch it at first and it completly screwed up a song for me that was done pretty well. This has been frustrating me for a while now and i was wondering if you could help. I know you said configure your software, but im not a computer wiz, what do you exactly mean? Any help would be much appreciated.

  • have you tried the stereo-mono switch on the actual mic when when recording? as far as the software goes, I would need more information on what software you're using.

  • Hello if got again a question

hmm i hear it only records on the right side:S:S?

  • That's more a function of the way you configure your software. The typical mic is mono anyway. If you're recording only on one side then you should take a look at your software setup. Also keep in mind that you can usually "repair" a voice track that has been accidentally recorded to only one side of a stereo track by mixing it down to mono in your editing software.

    Hope that helps.

  • hi, got a question.

I have vista and it only says it recognize USB audio but does not say samson..or CO1U..?

And the microphone doesn't work or not loud enough... pls help!!

  • is your mic a CO1U?

  • I have this mic when i record my music my sound quality doesn't always sound the best, could it be the vista laptop? or the adobe audition?

  • Heelllo i got a question

can i just plug in and record whit my Own progrmm

or you must to dowlaod the software

i just want to plug in my computer(VISTA) And than record rap whit my own programm can i ?(vista)

    plzz answer

  • you should be fine with pretty much anything that recognizes a USB mic.

  • My guess, if you have a drum machine or some other instrument you want to record as well, that this would be a great mic for that sort of thing. Maybe if some rappers out there are using a g-track they can let us know.

  • thank you for this! It is a really great review seeing as it gives a nice example/comparison of what the Gtrack sounds like.

What program do you use on your computer for recording? I have a fear that it won't be as compatible with my Mac as I anticipated according to some reviews.

  • The included software (Sonar LE) is Windows only unfortunately. I personally use use the open source Audacity(there is a mac version available) for recording which seems to work fine. Sorry I don't use an Apple so I can't be much help. Maybe a kind Mac user with a G-Track will see this and offer you some better advice.

  • Despite not using a mac you are still offer great advice! I guess I should just wait until I actually get it and then try it out. But I think it should be okay seeing as they have it at the Apple store.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Just bought one! with shockmount and pop filter...nice review hope i'll be satisfied with it...
