Chaplin was the funniest filmmaker and actor in the world, he still is. Pure genius - today we're totally unable to be that funny so we ignore this.
Too bad this video misses one of the biggest gags in the film, just before the eating machine sequence, when the chain stops before lunch - and when, caught by the frenzy move, Chaplin screws some buttons on a girl's back, then spills the fat man's soup.
How did Charlie know that he had to do this? How could he do it? Why is good art timeless - and still speaks to its own time? Whom will be to the future what he is to us from the past? This man raises a lot of lovingly-provoking questions in me ...
@innsidealive i think your approach is all wrong. from an artist's point of view there's not much how in attaining the goals you list, though many a how in more practical matters. sounds fatally trite, but — just know. or believe in what you're doing, if that's something you're good at. one can master his skills, still they're probably not what breathes life into things. one has to know the how in an instant — i dare to say that's how. and then, like chaplin, keep improving.
I worked in factories for a few years. This is actually EXACTLY what it is like in some places. I've decided I would prefer starving to death before ever working in a factory again.
6:50 - 7:10 , absolute genius XD

It seemed like a thing of the past, but on some level the movie is more relevant than ever before.

Hat man damals schon die Eintönigkeit und die schädlicken Auswirkungen solcher Tätigkeiten erkannt, wird es heute noch ignoriert.
