Tell you the truth, Bond could have jumped off the side off the helicopter when it was just above Blofeld. It was only a couple of meters and Blofeld would have cushioned him easy. But hey - that'd make things too simple :P

THE best opening sequence! It was so sad how he still goes to Tracy's grave after all these years, and the 'We have all the time in the world' caption makes me almost misty-eyed.

The first 5 minutes of this film were the best part.

@bynarr123 Agreed, i don't get why Donald Pleasence is the most popular Blofeld. He's a great actor but he's short and bug-eyed. Blofeld should be tall, tough, mysterious and with a deep voice. Savalas fits that description.

The reason they never mentioned this guy as blofeld was because one of the producers who created him had a falling out with the studio and tried to sue them over the blofeld rights, so they killed him off like this to say to this guy " get stuffed, we don't need your blofeld"!

@bynarr123 But now that guy has passed away so Blofeld might possibly return in Skyfall and might possibly be played by Ralph Fiennes. To me they should've never killed off Blofeld. He was Bond's arch-nemesis and the only Bond villain to appear in 7 movies. The minute Blofeld left the franchise, the films lost all story continuity and just followed the same formula over and over again.

Also, there have been hints about Blofeld's return such as one of the people of EON productions mentioning that "Bond should always fight Blofeld" and EON claiming that Bond's arch-nemesis will appear in Skyfall. Quantum will also not appear in Skyfall which gives Blofeld a shining oppurtunity to return to the franchise.

Maybe he could have jumped, but it would have been a really dangerous landing at that speed. I think Blofield shows less common sense when he flies Bond around for 3 minutes, and instead of crashing with speed, desides to kill Bond by flying the copter very slowly without seeing it. Normal logic for a Bond villain :D And Bond could have jumped off easily after 3:17

I like this sequence except for Bond picking up Blofeld with the helicopter. For one thing, the bald cap on the stuntman is obvious and at other times, Blofeld is clearly just a dummy. And that line about the steel deli still baffles me.

Who says this was Blofeld? Just because he was bald and held a white cat? Anyway, I loved his accent, his laugh and some of his lines .... "I trust you had a ...... pleasant fright?!" "We can do a deal!!!" "Put me down .... put me down!!" Reminds me of Electric Light Orchestra's "Don't bring me down ......!!" And Roger ends up with the marvelous one-liner, " Oh! You want to get off?!?" And down the smokestack he goes!!!

It seems that a delicatessen was a popular mafia commodity back in the roaring 20's and 30's, and the most valuable delis were the ones with stainless steel countertops (easy to clean, thus less bacteria-laden than wooden chopping blocks). Consequently, a "delicatessen in stainless steel" was considered a worthy gift and thus a potent bribe. It is reported that the phrase is attributable to Albert R. Broccoli.
