what a lovely film and nice to see it is not for gotten there was a record made at the time of the theme song to the film but not posted anywhere on you tube i used to own a copy but long lost in the mist of time
Thank you for posting this movie. I could totally relate to Fanny and the man I loved looked so much like Horst. I also wanted him to return to give his child a name :-( This movie is unforgettable.
I Love Leslie Caron! Such a gifted actress! no other woman could pull off the roles she's played in. From Fanny, Gigi, Lili, The glass slipper, to an American in Paris! Such wonderful performances!!! Simply breathtaking. Even her comic performance with Carey Grant in Father Goose!
@amidthephantomsrose Think I'm dreaming! I just watched this again, only because it will always be one of my favorites. Then, moments later I saw your comment! I'm so grateful to hear from you. I so agree with you; I, too wish every one would see it. These fine performers are really unique! Thanks for your gracious, and knowledgeable comment!
@amidthephantomsrose ~ It's on TCM right now, and I agree that it's one of the most beautiful movies ever made. And that theme music gives me chills, every time I see the film!
A beautiful movie. Music, scenes, cast, all excellent. Being gay, needless to say, I immediately fell in love with Horst Buchholz, but the entire cast was extremely charming. Thank you for posting this video.
@tahoemack Hi tahoemack! Thanks for your kind message. As for Mr. Buchholz, I'm certain he had an incredible effect on many, moi aussi! I've been told that someone has posted, in chapters, this entire film on YT. I'm honored that you singled out my little effort! I'd like to step back in time and see Marseilles during that era. These days I'd need a "sedan-chair" to climb the stairs to Notre-Dame! Best to you!
Thank you, great scenes and music. I love Leslie Caron, Boyer, Chevalier, and of course Buchholz was perfect; beautiful shots of Notre-Dame de la Garde too. At the same time, sad to see this world of Pagnol now gone or disappearing... Thank God for film!
@chevaliervaillant What a wonderful tribute! Since first seeing this film, I fell in love with it and the amazing characters. Believe me, putting this one together is/was a "labor of love!" My knowledge of France is limited to Paris; wish I'd seen the Marseille of these days. Thanks so much!
@varadero1839 Very welcome, and thank you! If you have not seen them, some other adaptations of Pagnol include Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring, and My Father's Glory/My Mother's Castle. Both are wonderful and also worth seeing.
@markedjuan You're very welcome! So pleased that you enjoyed this brief snapshot of a quietely superb film. I love it too, and thanks so much for your messge.
@varadero1839 Oh yeah, I remember when I first saw him. He was in the Magnificent Seven and I went crazy over him! lol I had to find out all I could about him and what I found amazed me. He spoke many languages, had an unbelievable childhood story and was a wonderful father, etc, etc!!! So, I watched Fanny and fell even more in love, grin. lol. Thanks again! <3333333
@Madamina1000 Thanks again for another update regarding Horst! I didn't know he was multi-lingual, but many Europeans speak anywhere from 3-4 languages! Thanks so much for the information; now I want to learn more about him myself!! I think these 2 were perfectly matched in this lovely film!
Horst was so hot! There is not a single word to describe the amazing man he was, but that he was so talented with more than enough looks to add to it.
@Madamina1000 Horst indeed was an exceptional looking man! His art was not only obvious in his appearance; this could have been a silent movie! Actually, he really was a fine actor, as hopefully is shown with this clip. Thanks so much for your mention! I'm very grateful to hear from you.
Thank you both, C&S. I'm delighted to hear from you! I love this film and I guess that's obvious! The actors, music, settings and obviously the author make it a dream! Thank you for your many posts, and comments. Wishing you both the best, and a wonderful holiday season..."Dean Street/Atlantic Avenue!!"
Since the 1st time I saw "Fanny" as a very young teen with my mother, I've always loved this movie...it remains my all time fave! Love Leslie Caron, love Horst Buchholz! So romantic, and to this day, each time I watch, I still shed a tear!
oh...i loved this movie also too.....i was 14 years and my mother looked this in TV.....but i never looked this on TV ....i didn't know why???? wonderful movie!!! thanks* for uploading....brilliant idea <3
I fell in love with Horst when he played with Hayley Mills in "Tiger Bay" . He was even better in this film. Leslie Caron has a most beautiful voice and accent. She is also one of the most perfect dancers ever.
This movie is so gorgeous to look at and so deeply moving, you'll need a hankie. Robert Osborne said, just last night, that it was one of the greatest films to come out of the '60s. I agree. It's one of my favorite films ever, now out on re-mastered DVD (2008). 5 Academy Award noms, including Best Picture. It's a gem. This clip is beautiful.
I totally agree with you! I had come to know this movie a couple of years ago and immediately fell in love with it! It is Claude Debussy and Monet, Van Goh painting come alive! A wonderous, lovely and incredible movie that gets better with time!
Thank you so much for your learned remarks! The score, by Harold Rome, was elegantly adapted. I'm very proud to have heard from you! Once more, I thank you!
Please, if you can, post more of this film?! I had a childhood crush on Horst Buchholz after seeing this film in the 70s on TV. I remember a scene where he is wearing black, looking at the baby in its crib. And I still remember how I felt when he met his young son out on a boat not knowing it was his son. aah. Thanks for fix!
merci bcp!!! i am so in love with this film that i m going to marseille this yr :)

marvelous actors is that you care about

What other Horst Buchholz films can you recommend? (Other than Magnificent 7)
StellianAriolus 2 years ago
I remember Horst mainly in "Fanny", and Tiger Bay with Hayley Mills. Most of his other films were German and made for TV specials.

Lovely, it took me back to my teens when I fell in love with an Italian boy named Mario. Ms. Caron made me relive the feelings all over again.
