A fine voice, remarkable, exceptional voice, emiting from the small frame has been achieved by years of dedicated practice. We all have different tastes and if you don't like her I respect your decision but don't try to impress your decision on those who appreciate the little wonder. I don't eat potatoes and steak. Have I tried to change your eating habits? See my point?
I would willingly give a year of my life to have seen Sumi Jo around this time. I feel in her early forties, experience and technique melded with physical perfection to produce the best "complete package" of any soprano bar none!
Oh! I will adore her for as long as I remain sentient but these were her best years. Sometimes I only listen and sometimes I only watch her performances, too much of a good thing overloads my limited senses.
Can you tell me what is similar in the opera works to first 30 seconds of above performance? Is that lyric soprano? Soubrette? I don't like (but I tried:) fast, loud and fast changing voice of many operas. I love LIsa Gerrard so I'm seraching something similar to her (type of peaceful, calm singing) but in another voice range like soprano etc.. Do you know works that suits my limitations?
Personally I don't know about singing techniques, therefore I can't do anything but to feel a mixture of happiness, sadness and perhaps to drop a tear and cry. Nevertheless I'd like to ask to those who know something to explain to us their opinions... someone said her upper register needs some work... that their final note was really awful etc. I'm aware I might not able to distinguish the difference but I would like to hear an example of what in your terms may be considered as the right way...
I feel that some people confuse a studio recording with a live performance for a less than expert audience.
This is a shortened version of a popular piece, which stands on its own by virtue of its sheer joy of life and exuberance. One cannot help but smile and feel better about life simply from watching and listening to such superb artistry and a gorgeous woman.

For me a perfect performance is one that moves me and Sumi has never failed to do so, be it: a tear, smile or laughter. I discovered her here and bought the Cds. Trust me, it takes a lot to get a Yorkshireman to part with his brass.
@flowersings their vocals are flawless and both of them have transfer their own feelings into what they sing, they live the lyrics on stage and not just sing them.... you can see it very clearly in their facial and body expressions.

@coy6642126 She has a beautiful voice, but I stand by what I said. Her coloratura is there and well done, but it really isn't at the forefront. It sounds obscured. I much prefer the coloratura of those like Bartoli (even though she is a mezzo)
@crazycellist973 I don't understand why you have to be so critical. Just listen to the beauty of her voice and enjoy it. Mind you , you could always get on stage and show her how to do it properly or just listen to Bartoli.

Maria Callas's voice was literally stunning.
The crowd in this video seems really young! That may sound strange, but, being a young opera lover, i've noticed that opera audiences in England (ie. where i live!) tend to be middle-aged/older people. It's such a shame more western young people aren't into opera - it seems to me that countries like Japan and China have such sophisticated cultures, that their young people take a genuine interest in the arts, in a way that young people in the west don't. Does anyone agree/disagree?
@incandescentsmile I totally agree...I went to see Carmen last month in Milton Kenyes and I must have been the youngest person in the audience... I'm 17! It's a shame a lot of young people choose not to experience it as I know a lot of people that would have enjoyed it.
@xoxpenguinxox What a coincidence!! I went to that performance as well! You may not have been the youngest - i'm 18 and my friend who saw it with me is 17 - close enough! I really enjoyed that performance though - and my friend, who'd never been to an opera before and was worried she would be really bored, loved it as much as i did! It is a terrible shame that more young people aren't as open-minded as we are, eh? ;)
Tis a really good night it was, although I heard that the girl who was playing Carmen had hurt her leg on the day, which probably explained why she wasn't as lively as she was in previous performances, she looked like she was in agony by the end of it, yet her voice was still mindblowing!
Haha, ahh I agree.. but I want to be an opera singer when I'm older, so its nice to see other performances ^^
@xoxpenguinxox That's interesting - i didn't know she'd hurt her leg. Didn't realise either! She did a good job of hiding it! Her voice was brilliant , and I thought the man who played the Toreador was particularly good. Good luck with your dream! I watched the video on your channel of you singing - you have an incredible voice! I know that wasn't an operatic piece, but still - you've got some power behind that voice!
@incandescentsmile actually your saying makes sense in some ways, but in my country, korea, usually elderly people goes.. not young people but it is a strange thing that people loves classic as they grow older and begins to hate pop songs or not that much
4:57- 5: 08. Wow! I've never heard a soprano hold the high note that long. That was impressive. I thought my Youtube had malfunctioned and there was something wrong with it! Sumi Jo's incredible.
wow

@gebo513 I don't know about that. She knocks me out every time I listen to her. At the end of the day, it really comes down to preference.

Does anyone agree/disagree?
incandescentsmile 1 year ago
@incandescentsmile I totally agree...I went to see Carmen last month in Milton Kenyes and I must have been the youngest person in the audience... I'm 17! It's a shame a lot of young people choose not to experience it as I know a lot of people that would have enjoyed it.
xoxpenguinxox 1 year ago
@xoxpenguinxox What a coincidence!! I went to that performance as well! You may not have been the youngest - i'm 18 and my friend who saw it with me is 17 - close enough! I really enjoyed that performance though - and my friend, who'd never been to an opera before and was worried she would be really bored, loved it as much as i did! It is a terrible shame that more young people aren't as open-minded as we are, eh? ;)
incandescentsmile 1 year ago
@incandescentsmile LOL that is bloody weird.
Tis a really good night it was, although I heard that the girl who was playing Carmen had hurt her leg on the day, which probably explained why she wasn't as lively as she was in previous performances, she looked like she was in agony by the end of it, yet her voice was still mindblowing!
Haha, ahh I agree.. but I want to be an opera singer when I'm older, so its nice to see other performances ^^
xoxpenguinxox 1 year ago
@xoxpenguinxox That's interesting - i didn't know she'd hurt her leg. Didn't realise either! She did a good job of hiding it! Her voice was brilliant , and I thought the man who played the Toreador was particularly good. Good luck with your dream! I watched the video on your channel of you singing - you have an incredible voice! I know that wasn't an operatic piece, but still - you've got some power behind that voice!
incandescentsmile 1 year ago
@incandescentsmile actually your saying makes sense in some ways, but in my country, korea, usually elderly people goes.. not young people but it is a strange thing that people loves classic as they grow older and begins to hate pop songs or not that much

rotcehnra 1 year ago 2

A truly great voice!
I was fortunate enough on two occasions to see her sing at the Sydney Opera House.
If anyone gets the chance please get tickets and see her live. A voice of such beauty as to bring tears to the eyes.

Orozcomen 1 year ago
acitipo 1 year ago

acitipo 2 years ago
jorgeandresossa 2 years ago
Maggielicious21 1 year ago
jorgeandresossa 1 year ago
Maggielicious21 1 year ago
jorgeandresossa 1 year ago

Nachosaur 2 years ago

kuintesa 2 years ago
acitipo 2 years ago
Maggielicious21 1 year ago
kinokismo 2 years ago
acitipo 2 years ago
