  • just tell me did you cut your hair!? i can totally see a long hair on you

  • Comment removed

  • are you aware you look like Corey Taylor and sing like him too..?

  • Perfect Video. Got it right after watching! thanks, add this to my Arsenal

  • You. Are. A. God. And you totally sing like Chad Kreuger (Nickelback singer), and this is exactly the tutorial i was looking for. Thanks again

  • i cant get my voice to produce the rasp i can put breath behind it but no rasp

  • when you talk in your singing voice you sound like sig hanson from deadliest catch

  • this method makes me cough. lmao...sign i should quit smoking? indeed.

  • @tylerddurden - If you're coughing, you're probably trying a little too hard. It should never hurt. Any vocal coach on the planet would tell you to NOT do this. However, most vocal coaches I've ever seen don't promote raspy vocals in the first place. As far as smoking, most people refer to people with this kind of voice as having a "smokey voice" such as Bob Segar. I give partial credit to spending so many years playing in smoky bars.

  • my first comment was too long lol.so im kinda confused if your using vocal fry to produce the grit or if its purely from the raspiness you're creating in your voice. id definitely appreciate some tips or pointers you could give me. im deffo checking out more of your videos, and maybe ill pm you cause i think i have more questions than i can fit in comments on this video haha.

  • @goatambush - To be honest, I'd never heard of vocal fry until you commented. I looked into it and that's definitely not what I'm doing. The raspy sound I get is somewhere between your natural voice and a whisper. Practice holding a note while transforming between the two.

  • @CoolEditz thanks man, im excited to learn this :)

  • i watched this and your cover of drive by incubus (fairly unrelated to my question haha, although i love your voice) i have a clean singing voice and wanna pick up a more rock-freindly sound for variety. i watched this last night and messed around a little with air control to specifically get the gritty kind of sound you show in the video. when i try it it i can already get this raspy slightly sharper sound, but it has no grit, either that or i start accidentally using vocal fry for distortion

  • nice explanation and warnings, dude!

  • Thats actually awesome advice.

Keep them up man you sound awesome.

  • wow.....i really liked the transformation (as demonstrated in the end) ! but could you actually show us how to "restrict/squeeze the airway/larynx"??????? and does it hurt your throat???????

  • nice video, but i've a question; some sing-teacher says that you use the uhhrrrr (like in the grundge - the girl) and build it on it!

But your way is easier, and doesn't have to push my body so much BUT it hurts... Why?

By the way, you're the only one in youtube i think that tells this! I've been waiting! :D

  • "The Grudge Movie"*

  • Matheus, I'm thinking back to when I was starting to develop this style. I think I'll do another video to answer your question because it's such a broad question. I'll get back with you soon.

  • Okey thanks. Please tell me when you've done it. I would really like to know. :)

  • I've posted another video to answer your question. It should be available in my videos section.

  • Really bad advice. You'll damage your voice if you follow his advice. Remember that having big lumps of skin on your fingers won't affect the tone of the guitar because the body and strings produce the sound NOT your fingers. However having big lumps on your vocal cords(nodules) will WRECK your voice and require surgery. Plus recommending McDonalds food shows he doesn't have a clue about health.

  • Okey, you tell me how I should train my voice to get more "dist" on it? MY voice when I sing is clean, there is no effect and it's kinda boring. I wonder how to make the dist as "Kurt Cobain" has.. Or something on that way.

  • Nice try at dissing, sir...though I would like to point out that McDonalds is actually one of the healthiest fast food places now.

Now, that's not to say fast food is healthy, but yeah.

  • @sirganya - I've sang this way for years. I've never lost my voice and can still hold a perfectly solid clean note.

  • Lol sounds like Michael Jackson nice details Z xD
