  • (Cont) and only played the popular music tracks instead of the deep tracks or the B sides the DJs normally played on their shows. And even Opie and Anthony suck now because of the upper management shit! Back in the XM days, O & A were great, unleashed and unmuzzled! Now they can't do ANYTHING outrageous. Radio, YOU SUCK!

  • ALL OF RADIO SUCKS TODAY! EVEN SATELLITE RADIO! Yeah I know someone on this comment board is going to say "BS, Satellite Radio is great, no commercials blah, blah, blah". But I remember when I had XM satellite radio from 2004-2009 and within those years XM was GREAT! Great Music, Great Shows, and Great all the way around! But after the Sirius XM merger in 2008 with NO THANKS TO MEL KARMAZIN BY THE WAY! The service went from great to shit REAL QUICK! The corporate suits took over

  • We assume he had another job OUT of radio lined up?

  • WOW! Awesome there! That guy had some balls! But yeah, corporations now a days dont care at all. All they care about is money.

  • Did the station change it's format??

  • They Reimage Themselves As ROCK 104.5 With A Similar Format!!

  • Nice to hear you parted on amicably. Getting fired in radio? A-hole managers? You have got to be kidding! One does not necessarily need to have a history of severe mental illness and substance abuse to be a PD. However, it helps.

  • LOL. I was laughing my head off at the end when this song just magically came on! EPIC!

  • he should have played the last dj by tom petty then left hahah

  • Nice bit. I second that emotion... but it was a stunt.

  • That voice sounds nothing like the Greaseman to me!

  • Tight board, what third phone, willing to relocate ! lol

  • Where is he now, is he working at another radio station?

  • HA! He quit, and left the station with Dead Air. That's a big FU if you ask me! haha

  • fucking AWESOME!

  • Tell me about it!! I learned my last day at a certain station was when my replacement walked in to be trained. Good thing Johnny Paycheck (for those of you who don't listen to country, he sang the song :Take This Job and Shove It)...felt so good to tell the boss that!!! He got the same treatment not too long after that!!!

  • I spent 2 1/2 years as a volunteer announcer at a public radio station. I wouldn't badmouth anyone at the station, they were great to me. The university which the station was a part of, with its corporate mentality, can suck my dick, however. It's almost poetic justice that they still haven't found anyone to fill the shift who was actually consistent in showing up like I was.

  • He should have farted into the mic as he left.

  • Chuck Norris was my hero before hearing this... Amen!

  • Ahh the life of public radio. The corporate suits have been ruining it and killing it for the last 15 years. It's a great industry to be in, but the crap people go through to be in it? You better have pretty thick skin and a backup job that ACTUALLY pays, because radio sure as hell doesn't. This guy has my respect, and likely the respect of every person ever to be gainfully employed in public radio.

  • Jacksonville is a fuckin shithole and the people are the reason..

  • @TheGravygun Then go back to your own fuckin' shithole. I don't even live there, but Jax was always good to me....concerts were, anyway. This is Rock 105? I remember the sound of that DJ's voice.

  • @2attached Born and raised here. There are no good concerts that come here give me a fuckin break. You gotta go to tampa or orlando.what concerts are you talkin about? Some country bullshit or some worn out alternative band.Maybe some poser punk rock shit.Do you think ozzfest would ever come here your dreamin. How was the Brittany Spears show you dicknose.

  • Yeah well, I worked for this station under the same manager that this guy is talking about. This same situation happened to me at another radio station in Jacksonville.

  • I'm going to guess that management got the last laugh on this one. Really people, burning bridges cuts more than one way...it burns other bridges you might have been able to cross had you not started a war. That being said, I hope he got away with it.

  • There is a special place in hell for administrators, bureaucrats, and other corporate stuffed shirts.

  • Fricken Awesome! I think he did it the right way too. Told off management without badmouthing his listening audience.

  • AWESOME. Ya see usually they can you AFTER you get off the air. Usually on a Friday afternoon. They don't give you any notice because they don't want you to go on the air and embarrass them by sharing a few choice tidbits with the listeners about the a-holes who run the place. This guy got to do what we all wish we could do when we get fired. And he did it brilliantly and with class. Nice.

  • bravo!!!

  • thumbs up to that guy!

  • LMAo I love the dead air then the door flies open and a random song starts LMAO

  • This is what this world needs. Guy will always have respect as far as I'm concerned.

  • this guy is a true american hero!

  • "It was later revealed that Gregg Stepp had already given his notice and had taken a new Program Director job in Bakersfield, California. Management asked him to create a bit that would bring some attention to the station before announcing the return of "The Greaseman" to the Jacksonville airwaves a couple weeks later."

  • I woked for awhile in Victoria, Tx in 1995 and got screwed over by then Gulfstar. The PD on the AC sister station pissed off one too many jocks. One night the jock on the AC Station (K107) at the time gave about a 5 minute speech about how the listeners deserved a REAL radio station that played the kind of music they requested. After that he put on "Rock You Like A Hurricane" and stormed out of the building. A year later they flipped formats to guess what "Classic Rock" and rehired the guy!

  • Biggest WIN ever. They got OWNED HARD!!

  • *round of applause*

  • WOO! thats wat im talkin about. id say 95% or us would love to do that

  • whoooo hoooo!!!!

    5*****

  • I live in Jacksonville and I heard this live on the air, it was awesome

  • nice. what happened afterwards?

  • @hint0122 If I remember correctly, they got a guy and girl to DJ and had a good show in the morning and I'll admit, they were pretty good but this guy was awesome and this incident only made him that much better

  • i bet. did they release something about it?

  • @hint0122 no, i think the guys that he dissed were embarrassed so they just moved on really fast like nothing happened but anybody listening knows some serious shit went down

  • i bet. where I live when ever the DJs say something bad, they have the GM release a statement

  • funny. here when a DJ does something dumb, they have a statement about it

  • As for the disgraced management, this is really nothing unusual when unsuspecting corporations employ inexperienced, Disneyfied, and shit brained program directors. I heard that one of the DJ's at KROQ 106.7 FM in Los Angeles is a REAL prick to his listeners. It started when he refused to play some song for some guys in the military, and then some guy in a hospital.

  • I know that radio stations often like to f**k around with different DJ's, program lineups, etc. but if I was told I was going to be fired, especially after many years, particularly if it was through a fault of my own, I might in fact tell them to go f**k themselves live on air, or maybe play a porno if they pissed me off enough. Canadian radio sucks, big time. I have traveled through many US states along the east and Midwest, all I can say is that Canadian radio is inferior.

  • To clarify, this is in Jacksonville, Florida, right?

  • @zemlianika Yeah.

  • Comment removed

  • He should have then played a porno over the air just to get the station fined big time from the FCC

  • Who is this DJ. I want to commend him fro telling them off. God forbid the suits "get it": though.

  • THIS IS CLASSIC !!!! I LOVE IT !!!! F*CK THE CORPORATE WORLD !!!!

  • Ohhh I dream of the day my husband would do just that!!

  • its real im from jville its rock 104.5 but they just say rock 105 hah its hilarious

  • The music biz sucks.

  • The Music Buissness is shady.

  • that was greattttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • its fake BTW. he got a new job somewhere else, and set this up. still funny as hell though!

  • @mjtheman23 link to evidence.

  • @MegaAstroFan18 en(dot)wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/WFYV maybe its not real cause it is wikipedia, but thats where i got it from

  • this dudes a legend

  • Hahaha. Bad ass!

  • i love it!!!

  • He took a flamethrower to that bridge.

  • lols

  • that was wicked awesome!

  • It is something that I wanted to do all my life as a radio DJ but never had the chance.. Really this is funny as hell, but very unprofessional. I wish I had the guts to do that. I was let go once in the middle of an airshift. 11:50 PM told to bring my keys, and my jacket and come into the office. 12 PM the station went automated. Worst thing is, I seen it coming. I was tipped off but thought I would have 3 hours of my shift left to politely say goodbye to my listeners.

  • still managed to keep it above board - impressive!

  • fuck ya

  • Damn I can't believe I wasn't tuned in that day. Radio sucks in general nowadays. It woulda been cool to hear some free speech for once.

  • fuck yeah!!! i have mad respect for this dj!!!

  • that was definitely gangsta..

  • That freakin' OWNS!! ;) Way to stand up for yourself as a Radio DJ! Wow!.. Love the part about if they were really listening they would have already been in there! Ain't that the truth. Screw the suits and upper managements! And people wonder these days why FM radio suxs!!! ;( If only ALL radio jocks would do this!...

  • Great stuff! And to slap on ZZ Top's "Tube Snake Boogie" is just inspired.

  • that was sweet

  • badass

  • Hell yeah!!! Never even got my shot in radio.. Turned down my very first offer 10 years ago, when I was still married and wife was prego with our daughter.. And dreamed of being on the air and being able just to go off like he did, good for him! Screw the suits!

  • It is a wonder that someone didn't cut him off.

  • @troy12n I was thinking the same thing lol but I guess getting his last word in was more important... can't say I wouldn't have taken the opportunity

  • Good luck getting another job in the biz...

  • dude... that is AWESOME

  • Hahhaa awesome!

  • So extreme man (sarcasm) but regular radio is a dieing medium due to management so I fully agree with this guy, they have to justify their salaries by making changes and screwing over the loyal people. Listen to Opie & Anthony (and Lil' Jimmy Norton) on XM 202 - Sirius 197

  • LMAO! Good for YOU.

  • GOD BLESS THIS GUY. fuck radio what an awful business. man. awesome.

  • Well, ther'es a guy who got the opportunity to do what most of us would like to do,, but dont' get the chance,, ahahaha good for him!

  • @BarneyFlart Yeah, I would've liked to do this at my last gig.

  • why they didn't cut the mic? must be they were happy about it for rating.

  • what better way to end this clip by playing "tube snake boogie" by ZZ Top???

  • that was nice of him to take the time to thank his listeners and all the cool people around him. fuck the man!

  • This was awesome!! Sayin it like it is and takin no shit from anyone. Kudos to you radio guy!!! :-D

  • @CMO5569 we don't have any jack in the boxes in jacksonville yet...

  • this DJ is a stupid murderer...

  • That's balls

  • revbleech - Yes...that was rad....buuuuuuuuuut...your comment was better.

  • eh Bob the Blade's was better

  • What happens if voicetracking is tired of the ownership??

  • He should get an award for telling management to shove it. I've put up with people far worse than this guy has (I'm not bragging about it) and they each owe me a thank you note for not quitting on the air.

  • That's a pretty fucking awesome way to go. I think you can sued for doing shit like this but man, do what you need to do :D

  • Used-up and flushed.

He got the shittiest outro music, too.

  • So what the guy has baggage, why is it Jacksonsville's problem?

  • phenomenal

  • AWESOME!!!

  • this is what WE do now

  • kind of a bad career move, but still pretty cool.

  • Yeah, no who would hire a person willing to do that on air.

  • That's how you do it!!!! Fight the Power!

  • That DJ is awesome. I'd hire this guy in a heart beat.

We need people like this on our air ways. Unless of course we like the DJ's that sugar coat the truths.

  • Being a radio DJ I wil tell you this radio is one of the biggest backstabbing jobs there is...the night shift guy wants to work mid days so he/she thinks of ways to screw you, the mid day guy wants the morning shift etc etc etc..and if you do not work at Clear Channel (for example) the odds of you working at a Clear Channel station is NON existant..they hire from within..

  • LMFAO cox radio... I wouldn't be able to say the name with a straight face at all...

  • nice, radio is one of the seediest industries out there. Full of liars and some of the scumiest people you can find. Best thing for the industry is to go the way of the newspaper.

  • damn. that's sticking it to the man.

  • Hope it wasn't someone just fucking with him in the restroom lol.

  • I'm really glad this has been said. Mass market radio SUCKS. I love how they don't listen to their own station!!

It's also just perfect how the guy gets up and leaves with the station stuck dead air for a while, before someone eventually comes in and hits play on the automation (or a dead air timeout kicks in). Brilliant!

I'd heard of one Miami DJ once leaving "Take this job and shove it" looping and penny-locking the studio door on the way out when he got canned... It was Clear Channel, yes.

  • "and this shows you how much they're paying attention because they should have been in here by now if they were listening to the radio station."

ROFL nice way to go out.

  • Hoax!! He went to a sister station. They brought back a former dj to take his shift.

  • Hard to get a new DJ job when you do this on the air. Like the the ZZ Top song though....

  • Comment removed

  • yeah- it had to be a hoax- you can hear the microphone switch on the recorder go off and on!

  • Perfect. As a radio DJ in a LARGE market, and especially having had worked for Cox in the past, this dude did say it right! I only wish he didn't do it on the air, to preserve his future. This would have been great to do, in person, in a station or sales meeting. I hope he found another gig. Yes, in MANY cases jocks are treated like he described. For any P.D. reading this...remember, for every action, is a reaction !!! But then again, economy sucks, you'll probably be selling cars soon.

  • i work in radio, and THIS WAS A HOAX...

  • He got COXED.

  • I lived down there when this happened, but I don't remember the station or the specifics, thats good shit though

  • THIS GUY IS THE MAN. i love how he reffered to the fact no one was interrupting him....just priceless this guy is a role model....stand up for yourself

  • LOL, and the music just goes on like nothing happened.

  • DANG, I GOT EXACT SAME VID LOL

  • Greg Stepp

  • anyone know this guys name?

  • This guy sounds like Brian from Family guy :D

  • OFFICIALLY A HOAX... well done tho :)

  • it wasnt a hoax ... it was on cnn and everthing

  • True dat.

  • LOL! They played this on Kidd Kradick this morning. I wanted to hear the whole thing. Way to stick it to those jerks.

  • he said cox

  • cox radio

  • Awesome, to bad that he lost his job though, sounds like he was pretty good : (

  • haha...owned

  • Awesome!

  • Well that's professional.

  • I don't think you would be too happy if they fired you just because they liked another DJ better and left you out of a job for the benefit of the company's shareholders.

  • letting a guy go with a wife and kids with absoulutley no notice is quit unprofessional even more so than this

  • what if the secret was really a surprise party, or a big raise? that would suck

  • You do that kinda thing on radio, youre most likely canned for life LoL...its a bold move and you have to respect the dude for speaking his mind. Hopefully he didnt have any second thoughts about it.

Now he gets labelled a lose cannon, where you dont know when he might have another EPISODE, and thats how you get pushed back into the corner.

Hope things work out for this dude, much respect for saying what 99.9% think.

  • not likley thers alot of radio stations that would love this kind of publicity

  • Not as good as the girl from WBLX a few years back

  • do you have a link for that

  • What's the skinny (info) about that incident?

  • Now that's how you make an exit

  • Hell yeah.

  • Quality !:P

  • Hope to see (hear) him on Sirius-XM radio!!
