  • Shame no footage from Marquee days - what brill time ..Chas Chandler and Lemmy wall flowers as I remember there !!

  • We need a fucking movement, this country's fucked, can we please revive the punk era today!

  • Was that Dawn Steele on stage with him near the beginning of the video?

  • 1 mike for live sound,1 for the video

  • lol - the crowd make me laugh - all the movement you see at a funeral and they all have fake colour in their hair so they can wash it out and style it nicely ready for school or work!!!!! I had nice big Mohican about the time this was released....lmao.

  • too many children at the crowd, where were the sham ´s army??

  • anyone know why he has 2 mics taped together?

  • @SebbeSucksBawlz alot of guys do that, Been noticing that a lot lately myself. All i can figure is that he's on two different channels off the board or something. I think maybe it makes the vocals louder?

  • @h4723d yeah actually it might be for 2 speakers or something to get a better set up sound.

  • @SebbeSucksBawlz ones for the gig and the other for the mobile recording van parked outside.

  • @mahatmacoatmahandbag ah right, cheers.

  • im a nazi shazti ya know i fight for my father land....ramones...76

  • @SNIPZ86 incidentally, they are called mohawks from the tribe or mohicans, make sense?

yes the country that introduced punk to the rest of the unimaginative rock world was the USA, and yes some had mohawks, some had leather jackets, but it was only you brits who had the genius to bring swasticas into the scene and racist skin heads - so once again uk, thanks for your valuable and uniquely english contributions

  • @mollkatles The USA introduced the world to punk rock? Bullshit. I don't care where is started or how. And people who do care need a slap. It's music.

Secondly i do belive a certain band from san fran wrote a song aptly titled Nazi Punks Fuck Off. America had it's share of nazi's and racist's. Dont blame britain.

And people wore a swatika as a fuck you to authority. Not because they were racist but for the shock value. Im sure you'll find there were plenty of people doing it all over the place.

  • @POWyayer-promise this won't go on too long? I'm already bored.

I understand why uk bands went swastika better than u, it was a big F-U to authority, particularly since the authority figure was the generation that fought the germans, and was through the 50s, 60s and 70's obsessed with re-fighting the war, I get it, and why the uk punk bands knew it would anger, but @ the end of the day, explained or not, is it ok to wear a swastika, or are there other ways to rebel as F-U without the racism?

  • @mollkatles

Part of it also was punks trying to disassociate the swaztika from racism, as it wasn't always a symbol of hatred. Naive? Sure. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

  • 4 people run a Borstal.

  • nossa bem loko sham e o melhor jimmy pursey e foda!!!

  • oi oi oi! oi to the punx oi to the skins oi to the hardcore kids in the street

  • Bawstul Breakahhht (you slaaaags!)

  • 1:46 pure provocation, love it

  • oi oi oi !!!

  • He was a self opinionated twat who thought he was a leader for the kids. He should have stuck to what he did best , and this is it.

  • @PaulBriden he was and is a complete prick and to be honest sham were not all that anyway, bands like the cockney rejects or the upstarts were way better

  • Jimmy Pursey..awesome bloke.

  • Why do they have two microphones taped together? Mon the Sham!

  • Real punk bands..!!!!

  • only good song from a bunch of second division surrey tossers .Skinheads fuck'em.

  • Punks weren't pro-Nazi. Wearing the swastika was just to shock the Establishment. People in authority were always saying to young people who had nothing, "We fought in the War for people like you!" So this was their way of getting their own back. It's not an excuse, but it's an explanation....

  • @jonathanmelia There were some Nazi punks. They hijacked the skinhead movement just like they hijacked the swastika.

  • @jonathanmelia Not true in this regard. Sham 69's fans, like it or not by the band, were in a large percentage, skinheads. Not to say that all of them were 'Neo-Nazi' and the like, but there were enough. Enough in fact, that after a Nation Front riot at one of their concerts in 1978, the band ceased to play live for decades.

Now don't get me wrong: Not all punks are racist skins or Neo-Nazi, but enough were to make a bad scene...

  • @stainedsteel1 Yes you're right, and that was a depressing development in punk. There was even the time when (I think) the lead singer of the Anti-Nowhere League said "If I hear ONE 'Sieg Heil', I'm walking off." But in its inception, punk was a cultural, rather than specifically political, phenomenon, and its use of Nazi insignia a form of shock tactic. (By the way, this clip is from Lech Kowalski's doc D.O.A., which has been posted in its entirety. Worth a look....)

  • @jonathanmelia Agreed

DO you have a link to that documentary? I've been looking all over to d/l or watch that for a long time with no luck...?

  • @stainedsteel1 Damn, doesn't seem to be up anymore. Just odd clips from the film, from the likes of X-Ray Spex, and the hilarious Terry and the Idiots. I saw the film at london's NFT back in 1995 and was blown away, then saw it on Film 4 about ten years ago. I think I videoed it: might be worth something...But about a year ago I did watch the whole thing on youtube, but can't see it now...

  • @stainedsteel1 i saw it on Channel 4 too,yes i did video it and yes ive still got it on vhs someplace. If i can find a way to get it on my pc i will put it all up for you and others.

  • @jonathanmelia not many punks wore swastikas, see it on any album covers? The Sham 69 album rulezzzz!!!

  • Top act back in the day,Sham Army Skins. OiOiOi.

  • That just cooks.Jimmy Pursey at his best.I'm 52 was there at the time..Thanks for posting this .Kids these days could learn a thing or two from Sham69.

  • @NazziSteve

Wot da fuck nowadays music isn't like this?....

    PUNX NOT DEAD!!!

  • Back in the day, Malcom McLaren, Vivienne Westwood, and the like would commonly put Nazi symbols, including the swastika, on clothing. It was all an attempt to be as outrageous and shocking as possible. There's tons of old footage (especially of people directly associate with the Sex Shop, like the Sex Pistols), wearing Swastikas during the 70's punk era in England.

I can't say I approve, but some historical context is probably needed to understand why he was wearing something so appalling.

  • was that associated with punk or a particular 2nd wave movement?

  • *(^O^)*

  • lol purseys face when the girl grabs his arm

  • OLD SKOOL PUNK IS THE BEST!!!! Too bad todays punk bands are not as fucking hard core as the old skool guys. Punk bands of today are pussies! But not all of them.

  • total right !

  • i agree :D

also, they dont need to be so heavy nowadays, the thing is that most of them arent original

  • 1:46 LAWL ?!

  • what a fuckin prick you are,I also know pursey well but unlike you ya bent cunt I don't give a fuck.

  • at about 1:16 Jimmy Pursey climbed onton the amplifier.

Imagine how awkward it would be if he fell.

  • Pursey DID fall; [at least at the ROUNDHOUSE gig].that's when I got a clear power-boot at his head in 1978.

  • in 1978, the Stranglers gig at the HOPE and ANCHOR got pulled, so we went to see SHAM at the ROUNDHOUSE instead: PURSEY was on typical form, ramming his cheapskate views down the audience's throat: PURSEY ended up falling off stage into the crowd, and the bouncer could see I wanted to give JIMBO a sound boot to the head as he was still lying on the floor. 'Go on, mate: Pursey's an arsehole', he gestured: so I got a good boot at PURSEY'S head with my steel-toecapped DOC MARTINS. the blood!!!!!
