Being that we can do what we will with PR, we don't need to go through all that to access Rio Grande. America's objective is to pressure Chavez in Venezuela. This was the reason that Chile turned down US "aid". This would have effectively put sandwiched Chavez between a rock and a hard place. But they were smart.

The US, Argentina, Peru hell even Iceland was there first, the USAF surveyed the runways, erected a tower, put up lights so the actual relief could land their planes. I am not in love with France, and I know that French interests do not always support US interests, but remember that France supported the US during its revolution in about 1780, and that the French have invented many products, procedures, & processes that make life better for all. You're kidding, right? Every failure of the UN in addressing a disaster leads to more deaths. The same occurred in the US during Katrina because the admin had its thumb up its ass. How hard can it be to realize that finally electing to send an additional 2500 troops almost a full week later is catastrophically slow.

What exactly do people dying in Haiti have to do with Israel and Palestine? I think it's fair to say that both countries there have made their bed, whereas the earthquake in Haiti isn't exactly related to an ancient religious struggle.
In truth, the mess between Israel and Palestine is simply another indication of how useless the UN actually is in solving problems.

The military is in Haiti to regulate the supplies given out to earthquake victims because, if it were just a regular group of people down there, people would be fighting and killing each other over the supplies. That is the reason for military intervention. If there were no military personnel down in Haiti, there could easily be a retaliating group of organized people that could take control of the food source. Far fetched, but has happened before. Anybody remember "Black Hawk Down"?

The UN an international representative force was appointed by the international community, which the US is part of, they are doing a good job there and at no point did they hinder the incoming aid as the American military did, and were asked to explain why and what their interest was.

Sure, they'll build them for the Russians. That doesnt state how many the french have though. If anything it shows what assholes the french are, they have the capability to build and crew the ships, but wont do it, because they arent willing to pay for and maintain them, so that they have them to help other countries with when an international emergency strikes. They'd rather not have them and not have the responsibility to help out a nation in need and accuse America of invading another country
