@986tornado well if you check FAA records, no flight fires were ever recorded from cigarette smoking. and second hand smoke can be avoided if they install smoking sections with closed compartments. all i know is that the japanese were the last to set out the non-smoking rule

@Mrmartinnico The safety video (and movies) were projected onto screens at the front, center of each cabin on the wide-body airplanes. In the 1980s, Air Canada used these safety videos exclusively on their wide-body fleet, B-747, B-767 and L-1011. The narrow-body airplanes (DC-9, B-727) still required a live safety demo from the flight attendants, since until the arrival of the Airbus 320 in 1991, none of Air Canada's narrow-body airplanes featured any passenger cabin video system.

I think the point was that everyone (including the passengers) was part of the "Safety Team", meaning that the passengers had their own role to play in cabin safety, ie cabin baggage stowage, seat belt use and not smoking. It was a way to get the passenger to feel "involved" and to "participate" in the safety demo, in the hopes that the important messages would be understood by a greater majority of passengers.

Combi aircrafts was design to carry both large cargo and passengers. Boeing offer these feature for those airlines who wants to carry more load on plane. I had a flight before on these aircraft and cargo pallet always shakes during take off or landing. Its so creepy and scary.

The last two sections of the fuselage are used for cargo. Combi = Passenger + Freight combination.

I'm once boarded on an KLM Boeing 747-400C. Stewardess kept take shifts on patrolling cargo sector. I know that behind me some of those cargo are flammable because I take a view on cargo sector when a steward open cargo door. Also, some experts says combi aircraft has poor fire proof system and cannot fully works if flash fire occur.

It is the B747-200C video. AC used the identical safety demo video from 1986-1988 for all airplanes with movie screens (B-747, B-767, L-1011). The video was filmed in an L-1011 or L-1011 cabin mockup (no question about that with the overhead bin and PSU design). AC just changed the CGI of the cutaway view showing the escape slides and exit locations to match the aircraft where the video was shown. The rest of the video stayed the same.

And No, I didn't do the filming. ;)

Yep, today in Ontario it's becoming strictly non-smoking EVERYWHERE, being unfriendly to the smokers lol! As today we live in a smoke-free environment, it strikes me to hear from my parents that cigarettes were REALLY common before. There were commercials about them, and it was common to see news reporters lighting one up on air!

Yes it does actually. Well I think the overhead bins looks like one of an L1011, but the seating arrangement of 2-3-2 is definitely from a B767. Well as this was most likely filmed in a mock up cabin, it doesn't have to come from one plane. As the same video is shown for all planes, the importance is to show a widebody with AC interiors.

absolutely. the united states government banned smoking on flights less than 2 hours on April 23, 1988. On that same day, Northwest Airlines went a step further, banning smoking on all of its domestic flights. By 1990, smoking was banned on all domestic flights, and by 1997, smoking was not allowed on any flight entering or leaving the United States.  Canada made similar laws around the same time the US did.

That's the only part of the safety video they would change for a specific airplane - the escape slide graphic. The rest of the video would be common for B-767, B-747, L-1011 (believe these were the only planes AC had with video screens in the mid 1980s).

CharlesBronsconca are you serious, compare then to now. Most Air Canada Aircraft have gotten the xtreme makeover, which include PTV's in the back of the seats. Also the seats were are not orange, there green, well with the xtreme makeover there now blue. The interior has definitely changed, no further questions.
