the good old days where cigarettes could still be smoked on board. nowadays people stare at me and complain even if i smoke an e-cigarette. gosh, i answer back and say its just steam, if you still dont like it sue me cus its legal in some airlines to smoke e-cigarettes
@OCBsebastian only problem is second hand smoke. others have the right to live. also you dont want to drop that fuc........ cigarette. next thing you no you have eh fier on bord and its worse when your over the ocean. why put your life and others in jeopardy all because you want eh smoke. is it really worth it. by the way witch airlines still allow people to smoke i thought that was baned worldwide.
@986tornado well if you check FAA records, no flight fires were ever recorded from cigarette smoking. and second hand smoke can be avoided if they install smoking sections with closed compartments. all i know is that the japanese were the last to set out the non-smoking rule
@Mrmartinnico The safety video (and movies) were projected onto screens at the front, center of each cabin on the wide-body airplanes. In the 1980s, Air Canada used these safety videos exclusively on their wide-body fleet, B-747, B-767 and L-1011. The narrow-body airplanes (DC-9, B-727) still required a live safety demo from the flight attendants, since until the arrival of the Airbus 320 in 1991, none of Air Canada's narrow-body airplanes featured any passenger cabin video system.
This safety video scary!!! you can smoke on flights there are no lighted paths to guide you to a exit on the floor or doors in case of fire it would have been scary to fly back then
they should say that if you are smoking and an oxygen mask shows, keep on smoking and forget about the oxygen because you obviously do not care about your health
I think this represents a golden age for Canada. I always enjoy AC thats why I fly for them. I think their FA's are the most well trained. No offense to major American Carriers.
I think the point was that everyone (including the passengers) was part of the "Safety Team", meaning that the passengers had their own role to play in cabin safety, ie cabin baggage stowage, seat belt use and not smoking. It was a way to get the passenger to feel "involved" and to "participate" in the safety demo, in the hopes that the important messages would be understood by a greater majority of passengers.
Fuck me, the good ol' days when smoking was allowed.. wonder how the cabin smelt like. And at 3:01 the commentary says to 'inflate the jacket only after you leave the aircraft' the stewardess still went ahead to inflate her jacket before exiting lol.
lol I wonder what it was like back when smoking WAS permitted on airline flights. I still remember the ash trays and wondering what they were :p And that lady's laptop was pretty funny too :P
Must have been late 80's since smoking is not permitted on any Air Canada flight. They should have given 3d glasses for the safety video with all the cheezy effects..Classis Air Canada safety video..Those were the days
i love the sound effects lol. its funny how they show the image of not smoking on the flight, but when the masks come down they say immediately stop smoking!
Combi aircrafts was design to carry both large cargo and passengers. Boeing offer these feature for those airlines who wants to carry more load on plane. I had a flight before on these aircraft and cargo pallet always shakes during take off or landing. Its so creepy and scary.
yep i have flew lufhtansas747 400 combis, and ithe noice is scary, once they were transporting horses, and i actually could listened the hoirses snoring and banging their pens
I'm once boarded on an KLM Boeing 747-400C. Stewardess kept take shifts on patrolling cargo sector. I know that behind me some of those cargo are flammable because I take a view on cargo sector when a steward open cargo door. Also, some experts says combi aircraft has poor fire proof system and cannot fully works if flash fire occur.
You should avoid flying Canadian North or First Air then lol, pretty much all of their planes are combis, but their cargo is stored at the front, the passengers sit at the rear of the plane!
Same as Alaska Airlines but not all are combi. I wonder why Boeing design 737 combis with cargo stored in front while passengers sit at rear. Hope this kind of method retire soon and replace by more efficiency method.
One can cite the South African Airways Flight 295 Helderberg incident in 1987.
The Taipei-Mauritius-Johannesburg flight never made it to Mauritius because a flash fire developed and disabled the plane. A few passengers had already died of suffocation before the plane began a rapid descent into the ocean, killing everyone else.
It is the B747-200C video. AC used the identical safety demo video from 1986-1988 for all airplanes with movie screens (B-747, B-767, L-1011). The video was filmed in an L-1011 or L-1011 cabin mockup (no question about that with the overhead bin and PSU design). AC just changed the CGI of the cutaway view showing the escape slides and exit locations to match the aircraft where the video was shown. The rest of the video stayed the same.
People were more chill back then. Now they put you in cuffs if you so much as try to have a puff in the lavatory or something. There's no where to smoke in the terminals either anymore, it's crazy. :(
Yep, today in Ontario it's becoming strictly non-smoking EVERYWHERE, being unfriendly to the smokers lol! As today we live in a smoke-free environment, it strikes me to hear from my parents that cigarettes were REALLY common before. There were commercials about them, and it was common to see news reporters lighting one up on air!
Yes it does actually. Well I think the overhead bins looks like one of an L1011, but the seating arrangement of 2-3-2 is definitely from a B767. Well as this was most likely filmed in a mock up cabin, it doesn't have to come from one plane. As the same video is shown for all planes, the importance is to show a widebody with AC interiors.
travelplus1, the correct quotation is: "Your know-how and cooperation are equally important." According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, know-how is indeed a word and means "knowledge of how to do something smoothly and efficiently".
absolutely. the united states government banned smoking on flights less than 2 hours on April 23, 1988. On that same day, Northwest Airlines went a step further, banning smoking on all of its domestic flights. By 1990, smoking was banned on all domestic flights, and by 1997, smoking was not allowed on any flight entering or leaving the United States. Canada made similar laws around the same time the US did.
That's the only part of the safety video they would change for a specific airplane - the escape slide graphic. The rest of the video would be common for B-767, B-747, L-1011 (believe these were the only planes AC had with video screens in the mid 1980s).
Westjet is now just as bad. My philosphy is to pick the airline with the best frequent flyer program. Since Westjet does not have one, that leaves Air Canada.
Same here, I'm now an Aeroplan member. Also Air Canada has a better network than Westjet. I sometimes fly to my hometown in Sudbury, and AC can get me there for cheaper.
oy, some of you people are so dense! Can't you even tell by the clothing and hairstyles - let alone the livery of the plane at the end, and the fact that Air Canada hasn't flown a B747 Combi in YEARS that this video is OLD!!! It is an example from approximately 1986/1987 - a time when most airlines still did manual safety demos in the aisle. This was quite cutting edge in the day.
boy, you're quick off the mark! Considering the Poster tells us this is a vintage piece!! Ever try clicking on the "(more)" link in the description to get the full story on a clip before commenting?
CharlesBronsconca are you serious, compare then to now. Most Air Canada Aircraft have gotten the xtreme makeover, which include PTV's in the back of the seats. Also the seats were are not orange, there green, well with the xtreme makeover there now blue. The interior has definitely changed, no further questions.

Golly the music is so annoying. Who in the right mind will come up with that?

Yeah that part was funny, but I meant that every safety videos tells passengers to put their own masks on before assisting others.
