Trams and light rail have been around over here in Europe for ages and no one ever has had problems, even at 31 mph for the cars and 37 mph for the trams.

Those drivers are not at fault. Who thought it was a good idea to lay road and tracks so close together. There are no warning lights. The sound of the train is inaudible in a moving car. The train comes up on your left side. The driver is already in the left most lane. You would never expect anything. When you turn left, you check oncoming traffic and left and right directions. No one checks for traffic from behind.

One- They know there is a train that goes through there on a daily basis, they need to stop and look to see if a train is coming in the first place..2- There is gotta be a stop sign or traffic light right where they make the left turns. Looks like the US based on the kinds of cars, and the last truck has a 712 area code number, which puts it in Western Iowa. It looks like a tram, but it may be a commutter light rail. Same diff.

Those drivers are not at fault. Who thought it was a good idea to lay road and tracks so close together. There are no warning lights. The sound of the train is inaudible in a moving car. The train comes up on your left side. The driver is already in the left most lane. You would never expect anything. When you turn left, you check oncoming traffic and left and right directions. No one checks for traffic from behind.

You say the drivers are not at fault eh..well I beg to differ in sevreal ways. One- They know there is a train that goes through there on a daily basis, they need to stop and look to see if a train is coming in the first place..2- There is gotta be a stop sign or traffic light right where they make the left turns. You cant just suddenly make a left tuen without looking, and 3- Theyre driving along, they can clearly see the tracks to there left. You should always expect a train to be coming!

Where on earth do they have trains and cars allowed to mix so easily.?
Here in the UK, us train drivers regularly see car drivers drive over level crossings after the lights are flashing. Ive even run someone over who thought they could run faster than the train, but THIS set up as asking for trouble..!!!

Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Croydon... These "trains" are trams, which are perfectly safe if other road users don't disobey the rules. How much attention can these car drivers have been paying, not only to fail to use their mirrors, but not to notice the presence of rail lines in the street, with trams running along them, bumps in the road surface to separate off the tram lane, and "ahead and right-turn only" markings on the road?

Also note the lane markers in many of these indicate straight ahead only, no turns.

If these rocket scientist driving could see the road and see clearly painted on the road, there is an arrow that says ONLY (and the arrow) That means NO TURNS!
So if they turn that is illegal to start with and the end result...

This is what you get for calling tram(streetcar) "train" and driving it like a real train. Fully trusting other road users to obey rules/lights = crash sooner or later.
The more you separate trams form cars, the more false safety you get...
